Where do the Duggars buy their Clothes?

I've never seen any long jean skirts or modest shirts in any of the stores in the malls by me. Where do they go to get clothes like this? I've always been curious! Do you think they make them?

Most of their clothing now does not look at all homemade.

Some of these things actually do cycle through the fashion world, so they are sometimes in stores, and then also in thrift stores once they fall out of fashion again.

Shirts aren't that hard to find modest or make them modest. Layering. :D

I think in the past couple of years, the Duggars seem to be shopping less at thrift stores. There was one episode in which Aeropostale bags were visible and some of the kids wear that brand and also Johanna wore a brand name nightgown that was listed on some site as being $30. I wonder when the Duggars stopped getting clothing donations or maybe they still do.

Duggars? Buy their own clothes? Why should they, when there's TLC to foot their bills?

The stuff they wear can easily be found via Lands' End, and sites like that.

They used to make a lot of the girls' clothes, and the Bateses still do. Now the Duggars can find long denim skirts in thrift stores, and there are probably some specialty stores online that are run by fundies that sell "modest" things. But I've also noticed that lately a lot of the Duggar girls don't wear particularly long skirts. It seems like as long as it goes below the knee, it's fine. Even I have plenty of skirts that are about knee-length. I have also noticed a trick that Anna Duggar does. She buys those long sundresses that were popular at Old Navy for awhile, and just puts a shirt under them to wear them like jumpers.

For shirts, they just wear polos, which I find extremely ironic since they make such a big deal about differentiating between men's clothes and women's clothes on the bottom, but above the waist they dress exactly the same. No wait, not ironic. Hypocritical.

Any clothes that have a brand name across the front are almost surely product placement, and they didn't pay for those at all.

The girls have said that they shop online and try to find good deals, or when there are sales on at shops they go bargain hunting. I think they make some of their skirts, I remember hearing about them turning jeans into skirts.

The whole family wears a lot of Aeropostale stuff, is that a typically cheap brand? I don't really know :|

In a more recent episode, they have said that they sometimes shop sales online. Stores like Old Navy have amazing sales, and they always seem to have longer skirts (well, non-mini skirts), so I can see that happening. They also live near some outlet stores, so I am guessing they might go there as well. There is no lack of consignment/thrift stores, either.

Usually when new collections/lines hit the market, Aeropostale isn't too expensive but usually their clearance sales are pretty cheap. I think the Duggars probably Aeropostale clearance items when they find good deals.

Aeropostale is a little less expensive than the other teen staple, American Eagle, but not cheap. Because it is really trendy, you can find it at yard sales. (I bought my 9 yr old a treasure trove of XS/size 1 Aero t-shirts and sweatshirts last summer at a yard sale for $1 each and she is so proud of them because it is a teenager brand and not a kid brand.)

It's kind of "medium". I find their stuff doesn't hole up very well. One season & done.

Ah, ok, thanks. I can see the Duggars buying that type of brand at factory outlet/clearance places.

ETA: Unless TLC is footing the bill ;)

Another good place to get modest clothing for children is Hanna Andersson. It is a favorite of ortho Jew friends I know. It tends to be pricey, but it lasts forever. My 4 yo daughter has one of those playdress-daydress sets they sell with the matching leggings, and it has been through more than a decade of wear between sisters and cousins--it still looks great. I think if I were planning to have 20 kids I would invest in nicer things like that and make them last.

Aeropostale is trendy enough that I've seen in in places like Plato's Closet and various thrift stores.

I can see the Duggars shopping at Plato's Closet, if there is one near them.

A couple of my family members work in the garment industry. They have boutiques that sell to Orthodox Jews who ask to have certain things cut more :P conservatively. As long as they pay for it, the manufacturer will do it.

emmiedahl, you need to take those Aeropostale shirts away from your daughter immediately! They have obviously become and idol to her and we can't have that. Steve would be very upset with you.

They are such an idol, you don't even know! They are an idol to half of her fourth grade class.

Aeropostale on clearance is actually pretty reasonable. I spent $10 including tax on a polo shirt for my 14 year old son there. Their sale prices are on par with Old Navy.

I adore Hanna Andersson. I may or may not have just ordered three sweater dresses with matching tights. The way their sizing works, there's a distinct possibility that what fits our toddler this fall/early winter will still fit her a year from now, and those clothes wear like iron.

Wherever they get their clothes, it doesn't matter to me. All I know is that they dress WAY better than they did circa 2006. Those prairie dresses and bloomers had to go!

I'm pretty sure they are given the Aeropostale clothes and are being paid for product placement. I see those kids wearing that brand on most of the shows; and I think, if they weren't advertising for it, TLC would blur the brand name on their shirts. I also see plenty of Apple computers and Swiffer Sweeper product placement on their show.

They might get the denim skirts, the trendier looking ones at Cato. I have a few denim skirts (that I always try to pair with strappy or otherwise less conservative tops to avoid looking fundie) that I got there, they are in stock every season, it seems. And I don't know about NW Arkansas, but when I visit Pine Bluff, there is a Cato there.

One thing I notice is that they have a lot of Christian messaging tshirts. I can guarantee they are not finding those at thrift shops with the variety they wear.

I think they are either getting those from a Christian bookstore/retailer as a sponsor or they are paying full price to do proselytizing through the messaging on their shirts when out and about.

I love that boy's tee that they have (worn by various boys) that says "Tough guys wear pink!" or something like that. For such enforced gender roles, they boy's do wear a lot of pastels/pink/purple and other 'feminine' colours.
