I'm hopeful JinJer will have two. Maybe just one. A Duggar ONLY? New reality show topic!

I think out of the current Duggar and Bates couples, nobody will come even close to 19 kids. I would say 12 as a maximum for some, but even that...I'll have to see it to believe it. I just get the impression, that they are too used to having a somewhat nice life now, without serious money problems and a neverending mountain of housework. But we will see... many of them have stated, that they are leaving it up to God, so anything can happen. But even if they don't prevent, they seem to be having bigger gaps than Kelly and Michelle, those two are just extraordinary with their fertility and their determination to get another baby as quickly as possible. Most of the girls are also well into their 20s now. Kendra is the only one right now, who had a natural birth, is super young, had a quick first pregnancy and stated, that she would like as many as the lord gives them. So right now my money is on Kendra having the most kids, but again, anything is possible.

Going back to will Derick leave/divorce Jill...I think in a normal world, yes, their marriage would fall apart and end in divorce. But I don’t think Derick will leave. I think Jill will get blamed for more and more, she will be told she is the reason for all of his/their family’s unhappiness and failures, that if she prayed harder or was more worthy God would bless them, that she isn’t being a faithful helpmeet, etc. and I feel for her because of that. I just see them as being trapped and unhappy together forever.

I also believe that as of right now, Kendra and Joe stand to have the largest family, though I can see one of the younger ones surprising us 25 years down the line (Dear Rufus, will we still be talking about the Duggars in 25 years?) with an enormous brood.

don't they also have that Covenant marriage which makes it more difficult to get a divorce.

Yes, I believe that it requires therapy and a lengthier separation than normal. I can see Derick refusing therapy because he doesn’t believe in it or something, which would really mean he doesn’t want to listen to a professional tell him he’s a narcissistic shithead.

@Ivycoveredtower @AnnEggBlandHer? Here’s the website listing information for separation and divorce in a Covenant Marriage in Arkansas.

And here’s a screenshot of the first page as well:

So in order to file at all they must be residents of the state for at least 60 days, must attend marriage counseling, must file for divorce, and the reason for filing must have occurred within the last five years. Grounds for divorce are more limited than for non-covenant marriages as well. If I’m understanding it right, they would then be required to live apart from each other for 2.5 years because they have children - unless the reason for the divorce is abuse of the other spouse of one of the children. You only need one year of living apart in that case. :pb_rollseyes:

Of course, all he'd have to do is establish residency in another state such as Oklahoma, and all that covenant nonsense is right out the window.

So what I'm getting from that is you have grounds if your spouse sexually abuses your kids, but not of they sexually abuse you?

While I agree that OfJill is super obnoxious (to put it mildly), I don't think he and Jill are unhappy together. I think they have calmed down from their teenage puppy love courting years, but I just don't see Derick leaving Jill based on anything so far. He may be annoyed at her clinginess, or he might like that someone seems so publicly dependent on him. She has not complained about his leaving a nice job to go grifting. I think he likes Jill just fine, loves her beyond that, and is just a fundie prick. My two cents.

I’m not entirely sure. It only specified children, but it also states you only need to be separated for a year if you have a child and the spouse abuses your children OR you*. It also states a felony or serious crime would be grounds for divorce - if someone were convicted of sexual abuse of a spouse or of raping their spouse that’d count (but would also be dependent on the abused spouse pressing charges and getting a conviction, which may not be possible or realistic for many cases.)

*So I guess childless spouses being abused are SOL and have to wait the two years?

I feel like people who believe in "covenant marriage" are probably the kind of people who don't believe in spousal sexual abuse.

Even in regular marriages many ( most ? ) states have a waiting period, regardless of reason. In my state, California, it’s 6 months, and if you have minor children you are also required to attend a county sponsored workshop that covers co-parenting. The workshop is done in groups, the parents attend separately.

I never understood why you have to give a reason when you divorce. Whose business is that but your own? In the Netherlands we don’t have that and it just seems extremely patronising to me. Is it because of the whole “what God brought together let no man tear apart” thing? Why does the court or whoever grants you a divorce need to know why?

Not to mention that they decided to do that smug-ass Covenant Marriage thing, which makes it even more difficult for either of them to just cut their losses and end it. Best case scenario (and it's still pretty shit) is a de facto separation where Derick fucks off to somewhere Jill and the kids can't follow to "win souls for the lord" and "find himself", and Jill basically lives like Anna did while Josh was in Jesus Jail, though with fewer kids and less stigma surrounding why hubby's not present, it could be slightly easier for her. And that's BEST case. Worst case, he goes full John Schrader and hauls the entire family off to some developing country where they refuse to integrate/learn the language, spend their days writing vaguely racist blog posts about the locals, put up increasingly desperate GoFundMe pages, minimally educate Sam and Izzy, and grow to loathe each other more every day but refuse to admit it.

This is probably BEC but Kendra honey, take a hint from the SIL standing right next to you. Garrett doesn't to be so bundled up with a hat on. It's like 90 in AR right now. If he likes being swaddled Walmart sells muslin swaddle blankets in a 3 pack for $16.99 that are much more summer appropriate.

It’s often kinda chilly in the A/C though, and he is much newer than Gideon. Probably just a onesie under that blanket.

He’s 10 days old, the hat is fine imo. And I bet they walked to the manor.

He's a week old, Gideon is almost 4 months old, they are both appropriately covered.

My summer newborn was always freezing for about the first 6 weeks. He would sleeping in a sleep 'n play, socks, a hat, and a sleep sack or he would be ice cold!

Yeah, Jill was around 15, Jessa around 14, Jinger around 12/13 & Joy around 9 when they moved into the big house. While Joy may not have a lot of memories of being crammed into a tiny 3 bedroom home, she has some, while the older 3 have a lot of them. Those older 3 have a lot of how broke JB & M were before TLC came along joy was pretty young before that extra money came in to help buy food. I still think that is why JD & Jana aren't married, they are limiting the # of kids they have the only way they really know how. I also think Jessa & Jinger will keep the numbers under well under 10, Jinger won't have more than 2 or 3 and I really see Jessa stopping around 6 or 7.  I can see Joy & Austin wanting 8 /10 kids but stopping after that, and maybe not even able to get that number depending on how her next 2 or 3 births go.  Jill wants 20 kids but won't have that many, Derelict will stop probably around 4 or 5.

To jump to Smugger & Anna, Anna would have 20, but I really think Josh is done.  I don't think he would have had Meredith or Mason had Anna not pressed for it after all the shit he put her though, I think they will have 1 more, get to an even 6 and he will put his foot down.

Joe & Kendra, he's also old enough to remember living in the smaller houses he was around 11 when they moved into the TTH but I get the impression he will do what ever Kendra wants, but I'm not sure she'll want to reach double digits with kids.

Same for Si & Lauren especially since we don't even know how long they will wait after the wedding to get knocked up.

Barring any fertility issues, I see Joe and Kendra by far having the most kids. Kendra comes from a double digit sibling family and her mom is young enough to not be done yet. I’d bank on second largest brood of kids being Si & Lauren since Lauren has 10? sibs and her mom just had a new baby. Kendra and Lauren are also teenagers too so they have just a little over 20 years of fertility.

My daughter was born two days after Garrett, we're in Florida, and I tend to keep her fairly bundled like that indoors. The A.C. can definitely be chilly for a newborn.

I love baseball but I'm dreading the new season because the White Sox ownership is THE FUCKING WORST. I watched Dominican League Baseball (Lidom!) over the winter and fell in love with their joy, spirit, and exuberance. The broadcasts were in Spanish and my Spanish is pretty weak but I loved catching phrases and repeating them. Bombe! I'm sad about MLB and Commissioner Idiota's busywork rules. But I love baseball, always and forever.
I guess I don't have a point. Just bitching. Te amo mucho, Lidom!

      Happy International Women's Day!

Humanity may have some work to do, to improve gender equality, but I was glad to hear that France has taken an important step to protect healthcare for women (and people of other genders who can get pregnant).

Feeling ragey this morning. I have a doctor's appointment this afternoon in the hope of getting help for an ongoing injury. I went to a (different!!) doctor late last year who completely blew me off. He wouldn't do diagnostic testin, he refused to send me to a specialist, and he just told me to "take it easy" and "take ibuprofen." I'm hopeful for today's appointment but I'm also feeling a SEVERE amount of rage at that doctor from last year!

It is definitely strep skin infection. I am getting so damn tired and run down from this. Who the f would immagine being hospitalized freaking TWICE for a rash?

My niece is going to be a seat filler at this year's Academy Awards.  Seat fillers are asked to wear tuxedos regardless of sex/gender.  If you see a pretty young woman with very curly hair, it could be my niece.
