The first episode is with camping- big deal- plus New Girl is on so I will watch that anyway

However, the second episode tonight is about homeschooling...

Michelle demonstrates her homeschooling skills as the Duggars prepare for the annual ATI conference in Big Sandy, Texas. Later the kids show off what they've learned from their Spanish Tutor by ordering in Spanish at a resturant.

okay I have to see how this works. The ordering food thing sounds stupid though

Lesson plan straight out of my first year German class in public high school. And, my first semester of conversational Russian in college. And my chichewa training in Peace Corps!

This episode is no doubt in answer to criticism that Michelle doesn't really do the schooling for the young children. And to show that the SOTDRT isn't really inadequate.

Apparently they're going to cover their older children's college plans this season. I'll maybe watch that episode...

I imagine JimBob ordering in Spanish would go something like, "HHHHOLA! (said with the H) Me want-o the bean-o burrito-o... please-o... err, por fay-verr?"

This may be interesting. Does Michelle teach the older kids? I remember she said that she only teaches to the 3rd grade. Anything above that the kids do on the computer.

I got all excited when this latest season started because in the "previously" section of the first episode, they showed a tiny bit of last season where the older girls were talking about dating and courting. I was hoping that they were hinting we'd finally get to see some hot courting action! But so far, no dice.

I totally agree. TLC probably knows about people who have caught onto the fact that girls are do much of the schooling.

I hope they really are learning Spanish. It'll help them when they go to predominantly Catholic countries to push their brand of xtianity down the locals' throats. *eyeroll*

It would also be a huge help to them if they ever wanted to leave the cult. Being bilingual can give one a definite advantage when job hunting.

I have always wanted to see them homeschool. Too bad I don't have tv. I don't think the new episodes will be posted online for quite a while...

Of course they are. Hence the coordinated "Message From Jill" on the Duggar Family Blog. It's all about the PR (and CYA damage control) for them these days.

But yeah this episode screams DAMAGE CONTROL

"Can you say synonym"

"Synonyms are dependent like we are dependent on god"

Hearing her syrupy sweet voice is like nails on a chalk board. The look on her face and nervousness about the idea of drugs and drinking about gave her a heart attack. For some reason something about Michelle really scares me in these episodes especially when she was putting the kids down for a nap. Like the look she gave them was chilling, probably because we know that it isn't all syrupy sweet and happy behind her eyes like I can just see her snapping off and yelling at her kids as soon as the cameras stop rolling.

Well the start of the second episode was like a train wreak- BTW I went to evil public school and never drank, smoked etc. SO I guess I never had peer pressure- must have missed something- ditto for my hubby

Oh look all the Duggars and Amy went to the school. Didn't we address that they didn't all go a few years ago- shocking j/k

Interesting how they only showed 5 minutes of 'school' again

I don't think practicing Spanish by ordering in Spanish at a restaurant is a bad idea. I'm in a program teaching elementary school kids Spanish and that is what we do for a graduation ceremony and it is really great.

But then again, I'm not trying to brag about it by broadcasting it on a national TV.

Also, you don't have to know much of a language to order at a restaurant. Hell, I could probably order food in Italian at a restaurant and I've been taking the language for less than a month.

Voglio di una pasta e un tè, per favore! Grazie! Mangio una pasta quando faccio colazione ogni oggi.

There, I probably just said more in Italian than the Duggars can say in Spanish.

No entiendo por qué ninguna persona mira los Duggars en la televisión. Somehow I doubt they can figure out what they means.

Edited because my Spanish speaking skills are not as up to par as I like to pretend. My comprehension is fine, but I really need to practice speaking more.

I don't have it in me to see the Duggars attempting to appreciate another culture after their past failures, so thank you to all who are watching through the pain to update the rest of us.

I have to say that Michelle's hair looked so much better up.

That's what I thought too!

Can I please have a....taco?! Seriously, though, it does make me a little happy they are making efforts to learn Spanish.
