Roseanne reboot cancelled after racist twitter rant

Well hell these "religious" stations would probably have the mixed-race and trans family members disappear out in to a prayer closet in a way that fornicated over the actors or actresses playing these roles.  As in making it seem like their fault.

And in the reboot of the Roseanne reboot, on a Christian station, Derick Dillard plays the part of a missionary. In the first week, he "converts and convicts" the trans child to only wear the clothing that is supported by their genetalia. In the second week, Derick calls ICE on the scary non-white member of the family. Agents come and deport that family member back to Mexico because, according to Trump, all scary brown skin originated illegally in Mexico. Episode 3 features a guest appearance by Donald Trump, who shows up to give Derick a commendation for Making America Great Again. The Trump supporters eat this up, while Dan Connor (played by John Goodman) had another heart attack and Sara Gilbert quits the show.

Brrr...I just gave myself a daymare!

When Roseanne was originally on I was to young to have much memories about it. That and I don't think my parents watched the show either. So when it came back I only knew minor bits of the show but I did on occasion watch the show (mainly when the Flash was on repeats). While for most part I found it to be blah but the one thing I give the reboot credit on that it did a good job at showing a base that was for Trump and glimpse at factors in their lives that drew them to him.

That tweet did not surprise me. The reactions and the ones that defended her did not surprise me either. My one comment about the subject was "that this was not the first time something like this has been said. At least with the ape comparison because Fox News and the likes repeated that line of thought but aimed at Michelle Obama over the years." The only new element was that Disney reacted extremely fast. Disney or at least the ABC division have been dealing with problems on the same scale as Rosanne's tweet off and on for a decade so I do think there was warnings in the past. But I also think that as society we are moving pass that we just need to accept this BS (same with the #metoo movement) and finally speaking out. Yes, there is a element that those surrounding Trump seem like we have normalized it but I think at this point that it's last step back we needed before we can move forward.

Roseanne has been on a slow roll round the bend for quite some time. Not surprised she finally rolled off the cliff. The Ambien defense though? Is that anything like Affluenza. Seems about as legit.

I can't see any religious networks picking up the show. Too many "controversial" characters (everyone but Roseanne) for them, but hey, in these times, I guess nothing would really surprise me. Fox maybe interested, but they also might be a little too mainstream to want to get that far in the mud.

Oh, and as it seems ABC has a hole in its schedule - they can always pick up Lucifer (recently dumped by Fox). Both my son and I are pissed that it was cancelled!

On episode 4,  Jim Bakker did a crossover appearance where he swore his allegiance to Trump, and peddled some of his products on the show. Roseanne bought $1000 worth of doom buckets and water filters, showed Jim her Trump altar, and then sang The Star-Spangled Banner.

The new Mrs. Bakker would have come too, but the sliding closet door rolled shut behind her while she was trying to get a fresh doom bucket, and bless her heart, she couldn't figure out how to escape. There was plenty of bottled water in there, so she cracked open one of the Mexican Fiesta® buckets, added water, and had herself a "gourmet" meal right there in the closet!

As always, Lori covets your prayers and hopes that the Lord will soon reveal how to operate a sliding closet door to her.

Now, you're giving me another idea.

In episode 5, Roseanne gets into a feud with a neighbor who is a minority, and demands that the neighbor build a wall between their house and Roseanne's and pay for it.

Episode 4 tries to up the comedy factor by featuring Tim Allen and Victoria Jackson, possibly as a couple who just moved into the neighborhood.  Episode 5 has Kirk Cameron doing, um, something....

Yep. And I'm still not sure why this in particular made everyone jump. She's been outspoken, brash, rude, and said off the wall crazy shit for 30+ years.  She cooks Jews dressed as Hitler and *shrug* she gets her show back. She references a Black woman and an ape and people absolutely lose their shit.

Its just odd to me.

Huh? I'm a black woman. Any reference to my people as apes is as offensive now as it has always been. It's one of the most offensive slurs. It is an old racist trope. Nothing odd about it. Not sure where you are coming from, but it makes me uncomfortable.

And, just like the "me too" movement lowering the bar for sexual misconduct tolerance, it is unlikely that some of the crazy shit she did in the past would be tolerated now. Note the Starbucks day of racial sensitivity training, it may not be worth much but there is a time this would have never happened, and it acknowledges that blatant racism is no longer as acceptable.

I'm sorry that you don't think she got enough blowback for her past offenses against Jewish people and others, but that doesn't make her Valerie Jarrett tweet any less reprehensible. I could understand you saying that she deserves what is happening now, but should have been raked over the coals in the past too. But to say "meh", nah, I don't get it. Unless you hold racist sentiment, and I sincerely hope that you do not. I'm normally a to each her own type of person, but I have zero tolerance for racism.

Umm no. I take Ambien and I've never gone on a racist rampage. Millions of people probably take it and haven't gone full tilt Klan like Rosanne did.

That would be wrong.  Conservatives would interpret that as him trying to tell America what to eat.  Conservatives don't like to be told what to eat.  Michele Obama already tried that.

I read that at first as peeing a banana and was thinking this was a reference to some sort of bizarre fundie fruit porn.

I think I took it once myself years ago and I sure as hell didn't go all Klannish.  I occasionally take trazadone now - I split the pills in to small pieces and take them just to give me the extra kick I need to fall asleep and those haven't made me go all Klan either.  She should buy a better excuse.

I have to say, I haven't paid the slightest attention to her in many years until this tweet. This becoming news likely stirred up plenty of other people who had practically forgotten she existed.

Also, I'm thinking it's part of things coming to some sort of head. As many racists are becoming more emboldened and more open about sharing their racism as they feel the President supports them, many others are noticing racism (and other prejudices) more and more. As racists become more bold, more and more others are speaking out against racism. What might have gotten "Ugh, that Roseanne. Stirring things up for publicity." a few years ago, is now getting "OK, this is too much, we can't overlook this sort of thing anymore." Every new thing is the last straw for SOMEBODY.

I'm not sure I explained that well, but I guess what I'm trying to say is it is a shift in the culture. Thirty years ago, lots of racist stuff got a shrug. I find that generally, people who grew up knowing people of all races are less likely to be blatantly racist, which is one of the reasons it bothers me that so many of our politicians are so old. As an example, my mom is younger than Trump, and her high school wasn't integrated until her senior year, and even then there were only 2 or 3 black students. She didn't grow up with friends of other races, so she's had to unlearn a lot of prejudices she learned from HER parents.

I don't believe for a second that the Ambien had anything to do with it. I noticed that the company that makes it also released a statement about it.

She is just hateful, plain and simple.  I do see more of this happening since the idiot took office.  I'm afraid it's just going to get worse, it seemed to be a little bad and first and now it's snowballing.

Jessie James tweet about conservatives not having free speech?  What world is he living in? Not the real one.

The world where blacks just shut up and play or roll over and die on command.  The world where abortions are only for wealthy white women or mistresses of conservative politicians who want to hide the fact that they were fornicating outside of marriage.  The one where white men are the only people who have any sort of rights and everyone else can just fornicate themselves.  That's the world these sacks of manure live in.

I was thinking of the horrible video where Ray Comfort shows him about peeling a banana. Kirk could do the same for Roseanne.

One of der Trumpenführer's former aides wants to let Roseanne bring her show on to a streaming service to let her racist flag fly...

Quote

Less than 24 hours after the Roseanne reboot was canceled, former Trump campaign aide Michael Caputo began plotting ways to get her back on air.

Caputo is the chief marketing officer of an online streaming TV startup called Bond, which aims to fund film and television programming through “crowd-investing.” He told The Daily Beast that he and his colleagues plan “to reach out to Roseanne [Barr] immediately” in the wake of the cancellation of her ABC show on Tuesday over a series of racist and anti-Semitic tweets.

Despite the controversy surrounding Barr, the rebooted Roseanne earned huge ratings and plenty of headlines for its star’s support for President Donald Trump. Caputo, who helped run Trump’s New York campaign, hopes to capitalize on that popularity. If he were to do so, it would be a coup for Bond, which was founded last year but has yet to begin airing content on its streaming service.

“We always planned on reaching out to Roseanne eventually,” Caputo told The Daily Beast. “Now it’s sooner rather than later.”

Yeah, I see several probable issues with that.  First the cast and crew that don't want jack shit to do with Roseanne now probably won't want to come back now.

Instead of Bond, he might want to call his service Bund.  Since I gather most of the programming would probably resemble a bund meeting.

People on another board I read were speculating that maybe the quick cancellation of the show was the final straw in a series of bad behind the scenes behavior from Roseanne. Even during the peak period of the original show, it was close to being cancelled because Roseanne caused so much drama on and off the set. ABC might have thought that she had mellowed with age, but that clearly wasn’t the case. If she was driving the powers that be up the wall, this scandal might have been a way to end the whole thing cleanly and quickly.

I was thinking about how many fundies have seen that video (or even know who Ray Comfort is) vs. how many conservatives think Michele Obama is a Food Nazi.  Plus, I was afraid my creative juices had evaporated, because I couldn't think of the next chapter of The Life of Thorazine, as told in pictures (Magnolia Pearl thread).

Yeah that was probably the case of the straw breaking the camel's back and had probably been brewing for a while.  If this was an out of the blue thing ABC probably would have just come up with some bullshit excuses and kept her on.  So in my book ABC is not a precious and delicate flower in need of our protection.  They gambled and fucked up big time.

Lisa Pennington was my introduction to the world of Magnolia Pearl, so if one of the religious channels did take over Roseanne's show,  Thorazine might just get invited to appear on a "very special episode".
