I wonder why Chris and NR Anna weren’t at the party?

Because there was the distinct possibility that someone would have FUN.

I am hoping that the BRBQ that Chels hosted included people for the Maxwell single girls to meet and broaden their horizons. I am desperately hoping this for them.

I was really surprised Steve and Terri gave Joshua legos. I would think they would worry about Joshua using his imagination and becoming creative. Plus, legos are fun, fun, fun. No mention of what Tina got but I assume it was something from the junior homemaker’s store.

Tina got stuff for her sandbox. Sandbox. A messy, fun activity. Hell must be freezing.

About Joshua and legos. Joshua is considered the clever grandson. They are making an idol of his abilities memorizing and learning. So maybe Steve thinks he deserves toys that are supposed to improve intelligence. Legos lead also to creativity, but I'm sure NR Anna will avoid it, allowing Joshua only built the item printed on the box.

I'm sure that he's only allowed to follow the directions that come in the box for the set. Maxwell bonus: Learn to follow arbitrary rules that make something that's supposed to be fun and creative boring and banal!

It's a little soon for a baby appointment, NR Anna is only three months out from having Elizabeth.

I remember from the MOTH book that Legos and Playmobil were/are two of the toy brands that are highly approved in Maxhell.  Of course, all the sets are things like family houses, police and rescue, etc. - no movie-themed sets or the fun fantasy themed ones with dragons and such.

Still and all though - if I had a dollar for every hour my own kids played with their Legos and Playmobil sets I'd be able to jet off to an exotic locale in short order.  I'm glad the Maxwell kids have at least that measure of fun.

I actually think the post was quite nice, outside of the regular writing issues. I am ok with grilled cheese for a kid’s party. I

No one else is interested in the fact Mary is babysitting other people’s kids? So she is actually making money outside of Maxwelldom, even if it’s just for likeminded families every once in awhile?

1

Grilled cheese--if the kid picked the menu then fine!

Mary, I'm sure, is being a "blessing" to some like-minded mother and might get coffee money or similar from it, but I'm sure she is just being a helpful Servant while waiting for some unknown [never -born ] Prince Charming to land on their doorstep and magically pass Steve's religious bar exam.

Really?  Out of all the Maxwell grandkids, he's the only one who habitually looks (IMO) awkward and muted as compared to his cousins.  It's not his physical looks, its just odd to me how playful and happy the other kids look next to him.  He reminds me of a little blond Christopher.

He may be naturally serious, but no doubt his family is reinforcing this attitude. They are praising him for being able to memorise scripture and I wonder how many hours a day is he forced to do that, and how many times he is remembered how must he behave to fit his golden kid role.

He was the one who loved puzzles and was allowed just 15 minutes per day to play with them.

Prissy kids seems to have a sad childhood. I hope their parents are not beating them, but as a mother myself, I doubt it is possible to keep such a rigid schedule and that continuous quiet behaviour in a gentle way. Anyway, Maxwells are experts in psycological control of their kids, and it's considered mistreating, too.

I edit to add that I'm not saying these kids seem abused, nor that a proof of that has been seen. I just consider that an overscheduled life and too much control is not a nice way to treat kids and can be abusive.

a) it's all they know

b) that rigid schedule is a "goal," while I'm sure they don't like to advertise it, I'm quite sure they have days when nothing goes according to plan. Not defending them, just we know that GOD is in control, not Mommy Maxwell. Therefore, if God gives baby a blow-out that takes 40 minutes to clean up, they do it, re-group and hope no one notices!

I'll bet Steve and Teri wish that Lego bricks still came only in white and red with a few clear pieces for windows.  Legos like that kinda suggested making buildings out of them.

Christopher was apparently mischievous and challenging as a kid, if Joshua is a well behaved boy then he's nothing like his father was.

I think these days half of LEGO(TM) sets are pop-culture themed.  I can't imagine the Maxwells with Star Wars, Avengers, or Batman LEGO.

No random, day-in-the-life-pictures on that day!  Thankfully!  Although that might be one of their more interesting posts come to think of it.

Regarding Joshua and Christopher, when Sarah posted pics of she and her older brothers for Mother's Day, I was surprised to see Christopher had very light blond hair as a kid and Joshua looks so much like Christopher looked at that age.

Unfortunately Mary might not be recieving monetary compensation for her babysitting, it's common for SAHDs to do this as a "ministry". I am curious why she is allowed to serve this family in particular. Perhaps the headship of this household signed a contract that stipulated the wife refrain from setting her child down while  "conservatively dressed except for a loose fitting top with a medium neckline" in Steve's line of sight.

No, the Maxwells are not that kind of fundie. If Mary is nannying, she is getting paid.

Steve Maxwell: A kindly-looking older white man who gently tells you you're going to hell while he pats himself on the back again for being married, having 8 children, isolating those children, under-educating them, putting the fear of God and death into them, monitoring their internet, and selling books about how you can too. With a bonus chapter about how this lifestyle has netted his adult daughters absolutely nothing. For Jesus though. It's all for Jesus. And one of them does face painting. So there's that.

FTFY.  It is the eyes, I tell you.  It is those staring eyes.

And Sarah has the Moody books to her (dubious) credit.  I think there is a possibility that she out-sells Steve and Teri's books.

The question is by which standards Christopher could be called 'mischievous' and 'challenging' as a kid. Maybe by our (my) worldly standards he was just a fine, normal little boy who had an overwhelmed and depressed mother. I'm not trying to throw guilt at Teri - mental health problems aren't a thing to joke about and should always be taken seriously - but this might explain why it was hard at times for Teri to raise him and his siblings.

I would have thought "mischievous and challenging" applied to all kids.

Being a perfectly behaved, obedient little robot from day one is... not how humans behave.

I love baseball but I'm dreading the new season because the White Sox ownership is THE FUCKING WORST. I watched Dominican League Baseball (Lidom!) over the winter and fell in love with their joy, spirit, and exuberance. The broadcasts were in Spanish and my Spanish is pretty weak but I loved catching phrases and repeating them. Bombe! I'm sad about MLB and Commissioner Idiota's busywork rules. But I love baseball, always and forever.
I guess I don't have a point. Just bitching. Te amo mucho, Lidom!

      Happy International Women's Day!

Humanity may have some work to do, to improve gender equality, but I was glad to hear that France has taken an important step to protect healthcare for women (and people of other genders who can get pregnant).

Feeling ragey this morning. I have a doctor's appointment this afternoon in the hope of getting help for an ongoing injury. I went to a (different!!) doctor late last year who completely blew me off. He wouldn't do diagnostic testin, he refused to send me to a specialist, and he just told me to "take it easy" and "take ibuprofen." I'm hopeful for today's appointment but I'm also feeling a SEVERE amount of rage at that doctor from last year!

Well, the rash is back with a vengeance. It never completely cleared up. I saw the derm yesterday and they did another swab and yup, raging infection again, still? It is definitely strep skin infection. I am getting so damn tired and run down from this. Who the f would immagine being hospitalized freaking TWICE for a rash?

My niece is going to be a seat filler at this year's Academy Awards.  Seat fillers are asked to wear tuxedos regardless of sex/gender.  If you see a pretty young woman with very curly hair, it could be my niece.
