The Babysitting Week

As usual, they continue to slaughter the English language. "...they stopped in to say “hello” to us and then Anna’s crew!"

and then Anna's crew [did what?]

Ugh

SPIKE BALL??? Is this a  thing in normal places or is it like playing the bowed psaltery?

I think she meant they said hello to them and hello to Anna's crew, but yes, as usual, it is all worded oddly.

Also, the 'menu' was grilled cheese, apples, and Pringles? That's not a birthday party, that's a basic lunch.  With cake.  Why are they so afraid of food? I guess the kids should be grateful they didn't re-heat leftovers.

I guess the cake Sarah made was nice. We were just talking on the JRod thread about fundies needing to learn to decorate cakes. Since they all have big families and lots of birthdays each year.

Exactly.  She also included “special time away”.  Is that code for ovulation?

Nathan and Melanie had fertility problems earlier in their marriage and Mel is now in her 40s. I’m guessing (and hoping) that they are done having kids. Of course she could get pregnant again but I’m just not seeing it as likely as the other Maxwell married women.

Thanks!  I haven’t followed them that long!

I actually think the post was quite nice, outside of the regular writing issues. I am ok with grilled cheese for a kid’s party. I would have loved that instead of the same hot dogs at every birthday party. If those kids were anything like me, they had half a sandwich, a few chips and two bites of cake and were full. Honestly, I find it to be a pretty normal party for little kids. Jill Rod. needs to make note of how Sarah made a nice, homemade cake that did not look tragic.

I think it’s good Melanie gets a chance to travel with just one kid. Sometimes she looks so tired in her pictures.

No one else is interested in the fact Mary is babysitting other people’s kids? So she is actually making money outside of Maxwelldom, even if it’s just for likeminded families every once in awhile?

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing as pizza's a normal kid meal too and what's the typical food I see at kid birthday parties. But the Maxwells make a big deal about basic food for functions like weddings and that's what's sad. For parties with teens/adults for, my family always did an antipasto bar or have hors d'oeuvres - both which would be a big sin in Maxhell!

Unfortunately Mary might not be recieving monetary compensation for her babysitting, it's common for SAHDs to do this as a "ministry". I am curious why she is allowed to serve this family in particular. Perhaps the headship of this household signed a contract that stipulated the wife refrain from setting her child down while  "conservatively dressed except for a loose fitting top with a medium neckline" in Steve's line of sight.

I really loved the cake that Sarah made! My family always does birthday cakes from bakeries. I'm fascinated by homemade and decorated cakes. :my_heart:

The post said that Mary had to work - does she have a job or was that referring to the babysitting?

Oh come on, Teri and Steve.  Let Annanmary have their Own kids if they want them.  As far as I'm concerned,  these two gals are nothing more than indentured servants whose indenture never ends. Yeah, they probably enjoy the babysitting, especially Anna but it's time to have their own if that's their hope. Isn't that what  (all) they were raised to do??

It's awful and sad. Mind you, I'm still reeling from the blog about their Internet policing  that the offspring "chose" to have.  Umm hmmm. Right. Sure........

It's like The Series of Unfortunate Events and I can't look away. Does anyone have any idea what Max fan base is like these days?  Lots of fans? Mostly FJ followers? Are a lot of people still buying into this crap? The conference circuit has dried up so there's that.

Looks like Nathan and Melanie use Abeka. Not all those stories are drab and dreary. Of course, according Terrie, Nathan had graduated before she dived into school being as boring as possible.

I think Anna would make a decent match for John David Duggar. I always wish he would take Sarah away in his plane but fundies normally go for wives that are younger. And I think their personalities might mesh well. But I think Steve would never allow a daughter to marry a Duggar. John David owns his own house, probably wouldn’t want to ever use birth control, and he could fly Anna home for visits. But nope. He would find some reason to object.

I'm interested how to "make ordinary out-of the-ordinary."

I am too, but if it's italicized by a Maxwell then I think you and I are not holy enough to even comprehend what that could entail.

Some observations:

The birthday party made me feel sad for Anna and Mary. The thought was nice, I'll give them that. But ... it just made me feel bad for them. The party and the Mother's Day stuff, and always being with the kids during any family events, just reminds me of things I would have done when I was babysitting kids when I was a teenager. I am a preschool teacher and spend my mornings with 2 and 3 years old 5 days a week, and I love it, but I do not spend family bbqs entertaining little kids or planning little birthday parties for children that are not my own. I understand WHY Mary and Anna do this, but it doesn't make it any less pathetic to me.

Anna seems in her element, however. I hope she someday gets to have children of her own.

Tina is very tall compared to Joshua.

Nathan and Melanie have adorable kids. And Prissy's two girls are beautiful.

Given that it’s all they think about (procreation), probably. Ew.

If she's taking Benjamin along it probably means he's still nursing, which would make another Maxling less likely. One hopes.

I've noticed that they are showing pictures of unnamed friends (and the babysitting of unrelated kids) more frequently in their blog posts.  Maybe it's to counter some of the comments over the years regarding them being so isolated.  I've always thought that they weren't as isolated as it appears, since we know that they have attended events that were never mentioned on their blog, such as Duggar weddings and Bontrager events before the engagement and marriage.

I wondered who the lady is behind Calia in the picture where she is giving Joshua his gift? I would have thought maybe her mom, but would her mom wear an apron to a birthday party at the park??? The person looks PG.

I don't see that person in any of the other images. But Elissa is only 12 weeks postpartum, so it could be her.
