Washington NFL team ‘pimped out’ cheerleaders

Ugh, another reason to hate the Washington NFL team.

The reckoning of the #MeToo era is exposing horrific workplace issues in yet another industry, as The New York Timesreports on shocking allegationsagainst the Washington football team cheerleaders.

The report details how team sponsors and FedExField box suite holders “picked” members of the cheer squad to be “personal escorts at a nightclub” during a 2013 calendar photo shoot at the Occidental Grand Papagayo resort in Costa Rica.

Upon arrival at the adults-only resort on Culebra Bay, team officials collected the passports of the cheerleaders.

The sponsors and box suite were also reportedly “granted up-close” access to cheerleaders required to be topless or wearing nothing but body paint.

Ew. Being a a professional cheerleader is the peak accomplishment of much hard work. Those women are trained athletes. This is sick.

@47of74, I went with the barf icon so I wouldn’t downvote you with the angry one.  The NFL team in my city hasn’t had cheerleaders in several years.  They were disbanded after they filed suit to be paid more than their $150/week salaries.  That salary covered games, practice sessions, travel time (I don’t remember if air and hotel were paid out of pocket or by the team) and mandatory promotional events.  Also at issue was that some events required the cheerleaders to be caddies at golf events while dressed in bikinis, and if the golfers wanted to get handsy, the cheerleaders were not allowed to complain. 

For the last few seasons, when I would notice the opposing team’s squad, i’d say snarkily to Mr. CL, “oh look, that team treats its cheerleaders well.”  I guess i’ve been wrong a lot......
