Is anyone else watching the special on the Kingston Family tonight? It's called Whistleblower and is on CBS at 8 Eastern/ 7 central. Apparently one girl got out and spilled the beans on money laundering + Rufus knows what else.

I wonder if it's the 'mystery' person that's been leaking information to the feds and the Escaping Polygamy cast.

I was at softball practice until 8:30, I hope to watch it on demand tomorrow. How was it?

The sisters in escaping polygamy eluded to the money scams in one or 2 of their episodes.  And there was an article in the last year about their energy (?) Plant and issues there with money.

I watched it on the CBS app today. It was good. They even used the same footage as the girls from escaping polygamy but blurred out their faces during the raid. I’m a bit surprised they never mentioned Jessica when talking about Washacki. But I think I saw her in the back of one of the office pics shown. Mary’s dad is David. He’s one of the 6 immediate brothers. Paul and Daniels brother. 18 wives, 200+ children.

The biodiesel plant owners are in serious hot water. They are charged with over 511 million dollars of tax fraud. They were getting tax credits for making the biodiesel. But, they never actually made it. They purchased it from other companies and forged paperwork to make it look like they were making it. The CEO and CFO are in prison. The trial will start next month I think. They have tried to get released from prison but the judge has denied every one of those requests. They are a huge flight risk. They have stashed a large amount of money in Turkey and own a few large houses there. They are also friendly with the politicians in Turkey. The CEO was trying to flee to Turkey when he was arrested.

The biodiesel facility is on the Kingston ranch in Northern Utah. The federal government intends to seize the property since it was used for criminal activity. It's a large piece of land.

I actually worked there for a short period of time in 2011. I did not know it was connected to the Kingston clan when I started. I was happy when I left. There was so much going on there that was wrong. It included child labor and clear safety violations. I even saw kids driving a semi around the property.

I’m glad they are being charged. I would love to know how many accidents were caused by child labor and then covered up.

Probably a lot. All of Sally and Jacobs kids worker either at the biodiesel plant or on the dance. The youngest was 7 and had his own Timecard.

Most of the employees at the biodiesel plant were members. They were not paid much. Most just made a few dollars an hour. They were not given real money. It was in certificates that could be used at other Kingston owned businesses.

May I ask how you were hired if you weren't a clan member? I was under the impression that they only hired clan members.

I watched the episode last night. It was really good. I will be watching for news about the trial this summer. I hope this is the Jenga piece that tumbles the organization.

I don't understand how the people are so willing to hand over their paychecks to the church and then let it be redistributed. The (Jeffs) FLDS did that too. I just don't get it!

This isn't unique to the polygamy groups but I don't understand how the followers (poor) can follow the leaders and know they live an opulent lifestyle (Creflo Dollar, Osteen, TD Jakes, Grahams, Benny Hinn, Ken Copeland, etc all fall into that category) and still give money to them.

They needed a chemist to set up their testing lab. They did not have one in the group. They placed an add on monster and I responded to it.

And that sums up these cult leader idiots on not wanting to educate their flock. I guess that is a good thing because then cult (hopefully) won't last forever without educated sheep.

Here's a write-up about Whistleblower:

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/kingston-clan-blowing-the-whistle-at-23-escaping-polygamy/

And sadly, in other plyg news, Roy Jeffs - one of Warren Jeffs' sons who spoke out against him and the abuse in the FLDS -apparently killed himself last week:

I was trying to find more information about the upcoming trial for Washakie Renewable Energy. I didn't realize the judge set aside 10 weeks (!) for the trial! I really hope it isn't a jury trial. How can people with day jobs serve on such a long trial? And if the people have 2nd or 3rd shift jobs, talk about long, long days. 10-weeks is a big burden.

The trial is against: Jacob Kingston, CEO; Jacob's wife Sally; Jacob's brother Isaiah and the mother of the boys, Rachel. And a man named Lev Dermen.

https://fox13now.com/2019/04/07/judge-schedules-10-week-trial-in-kingston-fraud-case/

Many of what is said in the article is what @DarkAnts has said up thread. Darkants, do you have an idea as to why it has taken so long for the FBI/IRS to react? is it because of the hidden books (that was talked about in the Whistle blower show)?

I found several of the legal documents here: https://www.leagle.com/decision/infdco20190315f15 I find it interesting that the husband and wife have separate council. All of them have attorneys from different firms.

Per the footnote, the trial will start on July 29. They wanted to start it on July 25 but decided to wait until the 29th because the 25th is the day after a state holiday. The holiday is "Pioneer Day" in Utah to commemorate the entry of Brigham Young into the Salt Lake Valley. Considering the nature of this trial, it is an interesting reason to move the trial back.

Here is a court transcript about Lev Dermen. his is the Detention Hearing in LA.
https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/5005058-Los-Angeles-USA-v-Lev-Dermen-082818.html

Here is a list of the docketed items in the court

https://www.courtlistener.com/docket/7763474/united-states-v-kingston/

Here is the Memorandum decision and order continuing trial and denying motions for review of the detention

https://ecf.utd.uscourts.gov/cgi-bin/show_public_doc?218cr0365-234

I have not read the items in full. I am just posting them if someone wants to or has the time.

The Kingston's donated 190,000 to various political candidates. $50,000 of it was to the Utah attorney general.

I'm surprised that this trial hasn't been moved yet. Never know who's on the books or not.

Employers are required to excuse a juror from their job for jury service, they cannot be fired or demoted in any way. Current Utah law sets the compensation level for jurors at $18.50 for the first day and $49 for each subsequent day of service. Some employers are willing to pay their workers at the normal rate during jury service, and the workers then turn the state compensation amount over to the employer. The court will pay .25 a mile, one way, for mileage of those who must travel over 52 miles from home to the court facility.

Thank you for the information.

That is still lower than federal minimum wage. I suspect many lower wage jobs don't keep the person on payroll. (The first day is just over $2/hour if they are their 8 hours; the rest of the days it is just over $6/hour) at least they get some compensation but it would still be a hardship for many.

If necessary they can request a postponement or to be excused due to hardship but I think those are relatively rare.

The first time I was called I was excused because I was in college 700 miles away. The second time I was called was for federal jury duty. I was on call for a month but never had to go in. I work for a small nonprofit and our policy is to make up the difference from jury pay to what we’d normally receive.

Actually July 24th is Pioneer Day. It’s the day Brigham Young and the first pioneers entered the Salt Lake valley in 1847.

Thank you! The article was very interesting.

What do you mean "The Davis County Cooperative Society was programmed into the phones." do you mean they were a speed dial option? If that is what you mean, why? And who mans the The Davis County Cooperative Society phone? And why are people calling it so much (I rarely, if ever call my church but then again I don't belong to a cult.)

It was programmed in. The Kingston Clans official name is the Davis County Cooperative Society. I don't know who mans the phone. The order was definitely heavily involved when I worked there.

I read that in the article and remember the sisters on escaping polygamy talk about the Davis County Cooperative Society and explaining that they are the same thing. To me, the weird thing is, what are they trying to hide when they are naming their church like a government entity. Then again they are all about bleeding the beast.

I wish an ex-Kingston clan member would come and here and help fill in some blanks. Same on the FLDS thread.

Jacob Kingston and his family members made a plea deal. I suspect it was due to pressure from the church. Too much dirty laundry could come out. Including information about other church owned business and polygamy.

https://www.ksl.com/article/46597932/biodiesel-executives-linked-to-polygamous-group-plead-guilty

The church stands to loose a substantial amount of property from this.

I've somehow invested in this year's Miss Universe pageant. After watching the prelims my favorites are:
      1. Jamaica (naturally lol but she's doing well)
      2. Haiti (love her energy)
      3. Great Britain
      4. Bahamas
      5. Canada (a beauty! absolutely stunning!)
      6. Japan (adorable)
      7. Cameroon (also adorable w/ an amazing costume)
      8. Myanmar (seems sweet)
      9. Vietnam
      10. Thailand
      11. USA (I'm rooting for everybody black lol)
Not a fan of these but I think they'll place: South Africa, Mexico, Columbia, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Peru, Australia, Denmark, Ireland, Dom Rep.
If they make Zozi (the current Ms. Universe) give the crown to a white girl from Pretoria, I will scream.
