I shouldn’t be shocked anymore, but Philips girls travelling cross-country alone, dancing closely with men, Beall posting weird and cryptic, misleading Instagram posts, Doug flirting around the world being very cosmopolitan...I just don’t get it.

It is all very weird I agree.

My take on this (and this is solely my opinion) is that the VF implosion and subsequent fallout, including Lourdes' lawsuit, hit the Phillips family far more hard that we could imagine.  Beall strikes me as scrambling to find her footing after it all, therefore the cryptic messages and doing weird stuff.  Think the kids are pretty much left to their own devices which is why the older two sons are gone and daughters are traveling by themselves.  And Dougie is traipsing the world carrying on as usual i.e. doing whatever he wants, when he wants, making himself look like the cosmopolitan filmmaker when behind that facade is a whole lotta nothin'.

Of course, they are going to make it look as they are doing OK, but seriously I think none of them are.

Nathaniel Darnell takes us on a tour of the Hobby Lobby Christian Museum. I will admit that it does look a bit "classier" than the Noah's Ark thing.

Well, the Greens did spend a lot of money on it, except for the stolen & trafficked items whose value they under-declared to US Customs!

Certainly have to agree on this one.  It must have been like a bomb going off in all of their lives.  I remember a weepy, disheveled Beall doing the obligatory "stand by my man" scene post nannygate.

And I still can't sort out the move to Durango; it makes zero sense.  Beall just spent an icy Colorado winter in a charming Victorian cottage cold, dilapidated house and in the past she's said she's homesick for Texas.

Notwithstanding the well-founded concern voiced here over public disclosure of residence, on the Operation Cheatball, shi-shi headquarters/apartment issue, IMHO that is the Phillips home in San Antonio, apparently lived in full time by Liberty and sometimes Beall.  I don' think there is a "Board" for Operation Cheatball? I think it's what Liberty occupies herself with.  These girls have, it appears, no guidance on making plans for the future.  Their education/work history is all very questionable, although they seem quite intelligent. Liberty should get a nursing degree and work in a VA, or otherwise apply to Vets Affairs or some veteran associated nonprofit.  Jubilee seems to be the type to pursue normal jobs in Durango/San Anton for high school grads.  And Eva should run to Europe and live with her aunt.  None will likely go to college.  Do the Phillips even acknowledge or congratulate their kids on HS completion as it appears some Homeschoolers do? Maybe that is forbidden like birthday cakes or some holidays used to be.

If you compare the fence behind Beall in this photo with the pictures on the apartment complex website, it's almost certainly the same one.

https://www.toscana-at-sonterra.com/

If they are living there (as opposed to visiting someone) it boggles my mind even more about why they're living in a dumpy rental in Durango the rest of the time.

As for the board, there technically is one, though I assume it's in name only. One of the women listed as a "board member" is involved with the Peoria Honor Flight thing OM was involved with last year (and it's highly unlikely that's her apartment, as she lives in Illinois). I didn't even try to Google-stalk the man's name, which is super common.

A small non-profit like Operation Cheatball -- a non-profit that's too small to have an office or staff -- still needs to have a valid mailing address, per IRS regs, and IIRC it can't be a PO box. Thus, Operation Cheatball does need to list something which is the same address that is now showing on Guidestar & Charity Navigator.

I noticed a Frank F. Loomis in there. Is that any relation to the Loomis family discussed here on FJ, or just a coincidence? I'm afraid I don't remember much about them, except for Rebecca.

Remember Martha Mitchell, of Watergate fame? I was reminded of her full name today: Martha Elizabeth Beall Mitchell. Probably nothing, but...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martha_Mitchell

I remember her and how angry her asshole husband & Nixon were with her over the phone calls.

Holy schmoley, I had totally forgotten about Martha Mitchell.  Here's a refresher.  She was treated in an appallingly brutal way:

Quote

From Martha's WIKI: In the days immediately after the Watergate break-in in 1972, her husband enlisted former FBI agent Steve King to prevent her from learning about the break-in or contacting reporters. Despite these efforts, Martha learned that one of her friends, her daughter's bodyguard and driver James W. McCord Jr., was among those arrested. She began to explore the events in order to help him.

While on a phone call with Helen Thomas about the Watergate break-in, King pulled the phone cord from the wall. She was held against her will in a California hotel room and forcefully sedated by a psychiatrist after a physical struggle with five men that left her needing stitches. Nixon aides, in an effort to discredit Mitchell, told the press that she had a "drinking problem".[citation needed] Mitchell began contacting reporters when her husband's role in the scandal became known, initially in an effort to defend him.

Nixon was later to tell interviewer David Frost in 1977 that Martha was a distraction to John Mitchell, such that no one was minding the store, and "If it hadn't been for Martha Mitchell, there'd have been no Watergate." Because of these allegations, she was discredited and abandoned by most of her family, except for her son Jay. The Mitchells separated in 1973.   In 1976, in advanced stages of multiple myeloma, Mitchell slipped into a coma and died at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital in New York City at age 57.

I was watching Season 2 of Lemony Snicket - A Series of Unfortunate Events last night, and there was a fabulous scene starring DPIAT as Count Olaf (or is that vice versa).  He sings and dances "Follow My Schemes."   The resemblance is uncanny.

While I was watching, I thought - wait a minute, wasn't this mentioned on FJ?  Sure enough, @erunerune mentions the Doug Phillips-Count Olaf connection in the previous thread.

Martha Mitchell. Now there's a blast from the past. And Helen Thomas. Can you imagine how press briefings might go today if Thomas were still around to grill Sarah Huckabee Sanders? Not to mention The Cheeto.

I think Beall might have A JOB!!!

From IG:

myfirstyearat50I wish I could show you a photo of Miss C. Endure my car selfie and picture a near 90 year old, 4 1/2 foot, powerhouse of cheer and wit. On the weekends, I fix breakfast and dinner for this most darling little lady. She tells me "her elevator stops on the way up," and has embraced it with humor and joy. Self deprecating with a twinkle, she keeps me in stitches. #countitalljoy #fightwithhumor#whenlifegivesyoulemons #icanbecauseim50#countingupfrom50 #midlife #growingup #ilove50 #iam50#leavingalegacy #growingoldtogether #growingoldwithyou

What the EFF is up with her obsession with having turned 50? You’d think she’s suddenly become aged and infirm and is bravely soldiering in the face of imminent death. I’m 65 and find it liberating—retirement is just a few months away!

Then I realize that, long ago, she bought into a culture that puts a high premium on youth and beauty, which are thinly disguised markers for virginity and marriageability. A girl’s highest ambition is to be the prototypical Perfect Bride (cf. Kelly Brown)...but then, after a generation and umpteen kids, what happens? Suddenly, if your marriage remains intact, the best a non-celebrity fundie mama can hope for is near-invisible Wise Woman status (cf. Victoria Botkin), kept in the sidelines while your husband trots your pretty, marriageable daughters out for display.

I think that, for Poor Abandoned Beall, “50” is code for “Oh, fuck—my husband has jettisoned me in front of God and everybody, and THIS is what it looks like to put up a good front.”

All the propers to @Haneand before I go on, congratulations on the upcoming retirement! I wouldn’t go back unless I had to! Enjoy: you’ve earned it.

One of the JuniorJBs is friends with a couple, the wife of whom turned 50 last month. She is lithe, beautiful, devoted to raising their two (only 2!) children and a powerhouse in volunteer fundraising for the institutions the family support.

Her mom made a card with photos of her at 16 and at 50 — in both, she’s vibrant. The difference between her turning 50 and Be-all be-coming 50 is, she never considered buying into a patriarchal belief system.  SO far from it, in fact.

Her husband used “50” as an excuse to buy her a piece of jewelry she admired and to plan a no-kids week away.

Ah, the differences between life in and out of patriarchy. As a former member of a conservative Christian denom, I had one of my big toes in that water and thank Heaven for the cues & clues that it was not a pond in which I wanted to swim.

Be-all is so scarred, so stunted (talk about an elevator that doesn't go all the way up!) but she chose that life and she has health and strength of mind on her side. Whether she has the ovaries, etc., to make more of her life after serving a little old lady is entirely her choice.

I feel badly for former child darling Virginia and her next-older brothers, Honor & Providence.  What are they, about 12, 14 and 15 now? Where are the boys, anyway? Those three are at the ages ripe for the picking for a lot of very evil, very ruthless, heartless people that are out there.

With the older brothers escaped (more or less) and the older sisters working on the road and somewhat Doug-adjacent, who is there for the adolescent children?

Beall’s got way more crucial things to be thinking about than her chronological age. #smartbutstupid?

For reference sake, I tried to find all the full names and birth dates of the Phillips offspring. I'm missing a middle name for Jubilee, and the exact birthday for Honor (Beall mentioned that he was 15 in an Instagram post from December of 2016, so I imagine he was born sometime in 2001, but I can't find a "Happy Birthday" post for him like I could for most of the others.

If anyone has additional/better info, PLEASE, add and/or correct me!

Joshua Titus - May 15, 1993

Justice Ellis - March 7, 1995

Liberty Elizabeth - September 24, 1996

Jubilee (?) - April 5, 1998

Faith Evangeline - January 14, 2000

Howard Honor - ???? 2001

Providence Mather - December 11, 2003

Virginia Hope - October 20, 2006

Doug, the Nazis didn't kill 6 million Jews because they "disagreed" with them, FFS. And you are not being "dehumanized" as you prance around Europe with scantily-clad showgirls.

And just when you think Dougie couldn't possibly get any more offensive.

The stupidity, it burns.

If anyone knows about sucking people into cults of personality that espouse dangerous ideology, it would be DPIAT.

I love baseball but I'm dreading the new season because the White Sox ownership is THE FUCKING WORST. I watched Dominican League Baseball (Lidom!) over the winter and fell in love with their joy, spirit, and exuberance. The broadcasts were in Spanish and my Spanish is pretty weak but I loved catching phrases and repeating them. Bombe! I'm sad about MLB and Commissioner Idiota's busywork rules. But I love baseball, always and forever.
I guess I don't have a point. Just bitching. Te amo mucho, Lidom!

      Happy International Women's Day!

Humanity may have some work to do, to improve gender equality, but I was glad to hear that France has taken an important step to protect healthcare for women (and people of other genders who can get pregnant).

Feeling ragey this morning. I have a doctor's appointment this afternoon in the hope of getting help for an ongoing injury. I went to a (different!!) doctor late last year who completely blew me off. He wouldn't do diagnostic testin, he refused to send me to a specialist, and he just told me to "take it easy" and "take ibuprofen." I'm hopeful for today's appointment but I'm also feeling a SEVERE amount of rage at that doctor from last year!

Well, the rash is back with a vengeance. It never completely cleared up. I saw the derm yesterday and they did another swab and yup, raging infection again, still? It is definitely strep skin infection. I am getting so damn tired and run down from this. Who the f would immagine being hospitalized freaking TWICE for a rash?

My niece is going to be a seat filler at this year's Academy Awards.  Seat fillers are asked to wear tuxedos regardless of sex/gender.  If you see a pretty young woman with very curly hair, it could be my niece.
