Kendra and Joe Duggar 9: Garrett David Has Arrived

Recommended Posts

Carry on from here:

Kendra is pregnant with their first child, due on 17th June.

Thread drift at the end of the previous thread included discussion of first “big girl jobs” and whether calling it that is patronising or funny or cute. This extended to @Satan'sFortress telling us about teasing her serious son with “Baby’s first college offer” and tax return, porn, etc. Appropriately enough, I’m still giggling about this...

I like the idea of a FJ community. But we need something alcoholic and chocolatey. And duvets, sheets and coverlets.

It would be amazing if we could have an FJ retreat, with blankets and chocolate and wine...I would probably keep addressing everyone by their usernames, though!

Regarding Joe "going along with everything Kendra says"...

Mr. Four was somewhat llke that. I wanted to go camping, he said sure... and I planned organized, reserved, packed for, set the tent up, arranged the bedding, did the cooking, took the tent down... see where I'm going with this?

I said I'd like to go to Disney World: he said, sure.. planned, reserved, organized meal plan, dining experiences, packed for me and kids, got everyone up and moving, got us to airport and checked in, etc....

So the moral of the story is that Joe may not be "going along" with Kendra to please her, (although he seems pretty easy going, so maybe) but he may be going along with her because he knows she'll handle whatever goes down...

And an FJ retreat: there MUST be late night breakouts where w e watch YouTube videos of   fundies doing fundy stuff... complete with alcohol, chocolate, and stuff to throw at the screen... "a late night science fiction picture show" for sure!

I'm up for that, would be more successful than Jill Rodrigues retreat.

I'll have to pass on the alcohol. The older I get, the less it does for me, except a headache. I'm up for chocolate and salty snacks, and I will support those who enjoy alcohol.

I'm now picturing your avatar literally supporting someone who has over-imbibed :pb_lol:

I have another forum I've been part of for years (at least a decade) and when we get together - we do all call each other by our nicknames.

Also - if there is a gathering - there has to be a Duggar marathon with shots for everytime Meeechelle says "precious".

okay - we could go with her saying "little one" or "blessing" or "entering a courtship"... then we'd actually be able to GET to some of the later episodes before getting too sloshed.

If we are watching episodes we are going to need to get sloshed! :P

We made these with Salted Caramel Baileys for a recent birthday party.  I wasn't able to partake being pregnant and all, but everyone said they tasted like a boozy Wendy's chocolate frosty.

You're welcome.

I'm in for this retreat just as long as I get to bring my dog and it's not in Packers territory.

As a fellow Minnesotan I say “YES” to this!

So Mr. Caldwell is going to be "popi" What's wrong with just "grandma and grandpa?" :pb_lol:

According to Urban Dictionary:

Popi: An affectionate term that loving daughters give to scary fathers.

I think the youngest generation of grandparents sees being called grandma and grandpa as making them feel old. They hear those words and picture their own grandparents or maybe their own parents in the grandparent role for their own children. I feel like it's a lot more common lately for new grandparents to be called all kinds of variations. I would imagine the Caldwells are thinking "grandma is for some old lady, not me," and I mean kinda rightfully so because Kendra's parents are quite young grandparents.

Jim Bob and Michelle probably called dibs on Grandma and Grandpa.

Kendra's mom really reminds me of a Angela from The Office...

I think Popi is cute. I called one of my grandfather's Poppop. I never asked why he wanted to be called that, but as a little kid it was useful to have Grandma and Grandpa and then Nana and Poppop.

Her parents look like they're in their 20s! If I saw her mom walking around my campus I would think she was a student.

I think it’s more likely because of the Duggar cousins actually. My husband grew up calling his maternal grandparents Grandma and Grandpa, but his paternal grandparents were Nana and Papa. His father (my FIL) became an uncle at 6 years old and some of his nieces and nephews had already had kids once he became a Dad. Those kids (my FIL’s great-nieces and nephews) started calling his parents Nana and Papa - my husband and his brothers called them that too because that’s how they heard them referred to as and because it was easier to know who you were discussing if you all used the same terms.

I’m pretty sure that Jenna Bush Hager said she named her youngest daughter Poppy in honor of her grandpa, George H.W. Bush. She grew up calling him Popi or something similar. I think it’s a pretty cute name to use for a grandparent.

Yes Poppy is what the grandkids call George H.W. Bush one of their older cousins (maybe Jeb's kids) starting calling him that. I loved that Jenna named her daughter after her grandfather like that.

I called one set of grandparents Gramma and Grampa, and the other Grammy and Poppy...

My son is the oldest grandchild, and he dubbed my parents MomMom and PopPop. He doesn't have any paternal grandparents. My sister's kids kept the names for my parents, and one set of kids has Grandma and Grandpa on their dad's side, the other sister's kids have Gram and Boppo
