I like the word notions - it’s quaint.  Also “sundries.”

i wokred with someone once who was upset because ber boss scolded her.  I’d never heard anyone use that word verbally ...just from older books.

I was roundly mocked by my friends for using the term "akimbo" out loud the other day. I stand by it.

It increases the stitches by one and leaves a decorative hole.

My knitting attempts in a nutshell, though the numerous holes would hardly be considered decorative.

I'm not that great either. There's some non decorative holes in mine too that I creatively photographed the work to hide.

I do see Jana being the next one to court, Josie will be 10 this year and it may be the right time for her to court, if she wants to.

Lawson, may be vain but we have seen how he has had a work ethic from an early age and is great with kid's. I personally wouldn't want someone like him but in fundie standards, he is not a terrible choice compared to all the other guys on offer. I don't see him and Jana courting though.

My first job when I was still at school (age 15) was in a haberdashery department. Steep learning curve! But I can still tell you what a notion is, and identify tortion lace vs broderie  anglaise lace.

I can knit- I LOVE knitting toys and baby clothes because they are quick projects. Hate sewing up though. I usually get my mum to do that for me.

PregnantPornStar, aka OtterRuletheWorld, aka LimeKitty, aka too many sock accounts to remember or keep track of.

And now I'm really putting my phone away and grabbing my coat! :my_biggrin:

I think Witherwings was one as well. Was she different than Whooosh? I can't keep my trolls straight anymore.

The story of the Hart family makes me so sad.  This last detail - identifying Hannah by her foot and Devonte still missing - just makes me feel ill.

I'm working my butt off on this scarf that's entirely out of my comfort zone, but I hate it so much. The extra decorative cable panel is NOT working for me. It's fussy and doesn't match. :(

The box I'm getting is 50ish dollars a month. It's designed for beginners. I know it's pricey, but I figured a) it's going to force me to learn, and b) there's practically zero chance of me needing a box every month, and c) it's really good quality yarn. They pick a skill every month and send out patterns with pictures of how to do the stuff to help beginners move on.

One of the ones I haven't started yet is knitting in the round and I have no bloody clue how the heck that's accomplished. I'll be YouTubing that lol.

I might have to check that out. I really regret not really learning to knit with my grandma when I was a kid. She was an incredible knitter. I feel like she could do every type of stitch, every design that crossed her path. And made her own designs because of crazy things my brothers and I requested. I just lost patience with it. Every row took so long, every other stitch dropped, and I’d feel like I would never be as good as her. Granted she learned when she was 16 and had many decades of practice under her belt by the time I was born...

Whoosh is her own speshul snowflake.

She was active yesterday.

My lingering memory is that she generated the flouncing rule, and a slew of humorous flouncing memes from Buffy.

think Witherwings and Summer60 were her, too. My personal guess is that Whoosh was a person who just suddenly went overboard on a particular topic. Her whole exit really confused me. I never understood why, and my memories of her being a good poster when I was new make me hope that she's doing well. I think she still might log in sometimes.

@HarryPotterFan, I wish I could go back and learn to knit from my grandma, too. I only saw her for about 1 week every summer, but it would have been great to have done that. When I started learning to knit from books, she was still alive, but wasn't knitting anymore. Plus I was a young adult with jobs or school, so I didn't get to see her every year. If only we had a time machine, eh?

ETA-- @AliceInFundyland, I guess you checked her account more recently than I did! :pb_lol:

I do not care for her. I appreciate that she remains in her original presence. She is/was an insidious witch.

In my vast experience of one month, it’s worth it.

Knitting socks would require me to learn 3 new skills: picking up stitches along an edge, turning a heel, and Kitchener stitch to seamlessly sew the toe. I need to get better at knitting in the round before I try socks. I've only made a few hats knitted in the round so far. I have a list of skills I want to acquire or improve. Those 3 are on the list, but not at the top.

I wonder if my perspective would change if I re-read all her posts. I don't think I feel strongly pro or con enough to bother at this point.

@WhatWouldJohnCrichtonDo?,   I see that @Destiny has just posted a link to the Knit Picks boxes, but they have so much other stuff besides the boxes.  I love looking through the catalogue and seeing all the colors of yarns they carry.   They've got undyed yarns for those knitters and crocheters who want to dye their own.  They carry their own line of wooden needles in various colorways and straights, circulars and interchangeables.  Knit Picks has no middlemen for their yarns and so can sell at a better price that many online yarn stores.  Now that Patternworks is no more (and frankly, it had gone downhill once Interweave bought it), Knit Picks is my online yarn shop.  I like Jimmy Beans Wool, as well, but I find their site harder to use and I don't know that they have a print catalogue. I do like how they do carry various brands of needles.  Say, you want Addi Rockets, Jimmy Beans will have them.  And there's always Schoolhouse Press, EZ's  old shop.

They have so much beautiful stuff. That’s why I want to get better at knitting. I want to be worthy of some of their beautiful yarns.

I don't think it's necessary. For anyone who wants a good troll hole to go down, I wouldn't point out hers. So much of that drama was confusing and behind the scenes. It was unpleasant and too hard to follow. ?

part of that resulted in one of the best fj threads ever, even if I should be ashamed of how many pics of ferrets in rescue gear ended up on my hard drive.

that was one of the best times I had on fj, a lot of us needed to be silly and blow off steam.  I miss that sometimes.

Same. I hope they are able to identify something of Devonte so the people that knew him have some certainty. While they are pretty sure that he's dead there's always that tiny demon of hope to torment them.

Even I have made up some pretty wild scenarios in my head. Maybe he was thrown from the van and swam to shore, or was washed up with amnesia, or he was left at home, or he ran away before they left and the guilt caused him to go by a nickname and he's in a teen shelter in Portland.

Eeeek, I didn't do this quite right.  So, to be 100% clear, this was my response to @WhatWouldJohnCrichtonDo?

And this was relative to @ShopKeeper's trolling:

Another drunk-dial attention whore, but that seems so harsh (the latter part meant ironically).  Is there a way for FJ-ers to block from view users whose posts have zero redeeming value?

Three years ago my stepdaughter got me a pair of....half mittens I guess  you'd call them. They are like mittens that stop past the knuckles and partway to the next joint up; ditto with the thumb.  There are insanely practical for Texas weather, where it can definitely get nippy in the winter, but not terribly so, plus you still have dexterity for your fingers.  I worry they will wear out and then I'll have to learn how to knit to create a duplicate pair.

For me it wasn't. I couldn't pm anyone except mods (plus a few) for a long time after that. I didn't know who to trust. I was so new to the board (posting). There are posters I thought didn't like me until about three months ago. (It was in my head, but still...)

I had voiced opinions about retro, then her. And I had no real idea about the very recent history with Alecto. I was lucky that my instincts were more or less accurate. It was only later that I read some board history and could contextualize the entire affair. The Whoosh "affair" was quite stressful for me. I only thought she was a troll because of her public behavior. And then I ended up learning more and calling her out based on everything (with permission). I really don't like her.

Do you mean like finger-less gloves with the mitten part you can button back? Or the opposite of that.

My mom has made me multiples of these. They are so great. I keep losing them though. She finally made me a set of 3 so I have extra. They work well in Oregon too!

I was speaking of the one thread, not that time.

as I just said in another thread id been blessed to have forgotten much, but this walk down memory lane is bring back a lot of reasons to wonder why I'm still here.
