They did find a good church, of course. One with a whole cult of personality around John Macarthur. John Macarthur this, John Macarthur that. Barf.

The Bond just posted a bunch of pictures from the last 6 weeks. There really aren’t a lot of pictures of the family with Carson and Lina. Which I think is a good thing. They need their space. Kind of like Joe and Elissa Maxwell.

You know you are spending too much time on FJ when you go to pick up your bike at the shop where it was getting some new components, including a new front tire, you notice the brand on the tire and catch yourself about to ask if they also sell Bowers. Because I don't know which is worse--their thinking I'm nuts, or their understanding why I'd ask such a thing.

@JermajestyDuggar did you see what I see? :)

People always say fundies aren't relatable, but who doesn't like a little pain with their pleasure?

That’s the kind of decorations I would want at my shower! Let’s talk about all the pain your baby will cause (with a bit of pleasure).

When I lived in the Castro (the original gay neighborhood in San Francisco) I really wanted to open a bakery called "Aliss's House of Pain", if only for the expressions on people's faces when they entered and found out it was just a bakery.

Just read their latest blog post and damn their food always looks delicious and I really admire their work ethic. I'd take a slice of that (and from the homemade pizza). But reading about Liz' "blossoming womanhood" made me puke into my mouth a little bit and was a nice and much needed reality check.

I salute Mitchell and Bryn for still not being on the baby-making train!

I don’t think it’s by choice. At least by their comments it seems they want to get pregnant soon. But I hope they enjoy their time alone together. It would be nice if they aren’t super fertile and only have a handful of kids.

I’m a bit confused by this picture. Does this mean Josh and Cass will be touring with them this summer? I hope not. She is due right in the middle of the tour. I suppose they can travel at the beginning of the tour but traveling while very pregnant would suck so bad. If Josh and Cass are out, the Bontrager family singers have gotten quite small. They only have 6 now. I wonder if they will keep going after Allison and Denver get married. That could be a few years from now though.

Maybe Cass is preparing for a bus delivery a'la Anna Duggar... I can only imagine how uncomfortable it is to be confined in a bus with bunch of your in-laws (or anyone, for that matter) while super-pregnant. But she probably has to be joyful and cheerful and not complain, and young Mister Ass  Josh does not have a clue that his wife might need some rest and privacy...

None of the Bontrager or Bowers kids ever had any privacy, and both families spent significant time living in busses, so it might feel normal to Cassidy.  After growing up the way they did, some of them might actually be afraid of spending time alone.  And some of them are probably so desperate for it that they feel like jumping out of their skin.

TLC did a pilot a few years ago about a bus living Christian family band, and I remember the mother of the family saying that some of the kids had been born on the bus, and delivered by her husband.

Maybe their birth plan involves an Interstate 80 rest area, though a truck stop would be more likely to have boiling water...

*In the interest of full disclosure, I actually know several kids who were born in converted schoolbuses, both on the road and off, one who was born in the back of a VW bus on a beach in Kauai, one who was born in the back of a Ryder truck in a camping area set up for a 3 day run of Dead shows, and one born in a tipi at a festival.  Actually, they’re all young adults now.  I know a lot of freaky people,  but they’re a totally different brand of freak than the kinds we talk about here.

Joshua made a Father’s Day post talking about why so many men are in prison. They didn’t have fathers! He’s such a know it all for 21. He hasn’t even become a father yet. I feel like these two are just playing house and are by far the least mature out of all the couples that got married last year. The other couples have some distance between themselves and their families if origin. But these two are still traveling around with the Bontragers. They seem less able to make their own life without the Bontragers. I wouldn’t be surprised if they travel around with the Bons with the baby in the fall.

I don't know....I kinda give Joshua credit for putting out a "sermon" every week. Even if I don't agree with many of the Bontragers hard-core beliefs, I do think Joshua has thought about what he writes and actually writes quite well, as do his sisters, considering SODRT. He's disciplined about putting his thoughts out every Tuesday it seems. Not bad for a 20/21 year old.

As someone had remarked a while ago, the Bontragers get.shit.done. Maybe Joshua is working towards a political career or a career in Ministry.  He will do it. He's a less educated Steven Hammer but every bit as ambitious.  Interesting to follow the family. I love that Chelsy Bontrager Maxwell is watching movies and has Steve Maxwell completely bent out of shape.  Potential fundie smackdown in the works!

While I agree that Joshua seems pretty smug and immature, I can't say the same for Cass, but only due to the fact that she rarely "talks" in public (social media, etc.).

Yes, I don’t think Cass is like Joshua. But she has the “adoring fundie wife stare” down already. I’m sure she thinks he’s so smart and right about everything. It’s actually worse that she is like that. Because he has a constant groupie hanging on his every word and stroking his ego. I wonder if the baby will throw things off in their marriage. Since she has to focus on someone else besides him.

He's just parroting his father in the whole article. The "men in prison" theory is always a part of Merlin's sermon when they're on tour (example video from last year). The other anecdotes in that article are all from Merlin, like when he fell on his knees in his motel room and decided to dedicate more time to his family. All of these thoughts, however well articulated, have been drilled into him for years and he doesn't show an ounce of critical thinking.

Part of me feels bad for Joshua, as he's trying desperately to measure up to his father and father-in-law, but the other part of me wants to kick him in the rear-end to create his OWN life experiences. He'll be a much better preacher when he has testimony of his own.

Question: Do the Bontragers own an automobile dealership somewhere?  That name kind of rings a bell but maybe I have them confused with someone else.

I don’t think so. Bontrager is a fairly common name among Amish/Mennonite and those with Amish/Mennonite roots.

You know what, Joshua Bontrager?  I could do without your Confederate General Robert E. Lee worship, as evidenced in your "fathers" sermon: http://joshuabontrager.com/2018/06/12/life-lessons-from-my-father/#more-707

It is especially ridiculous considering you live in the North and are descended from pacifist Mennonites. Way to insult your ancestors.

Robert E. Lee CHOSE to fight for a treasonous cause that enshrined slavery in its Constitution. His admirable personal qualities will always be  SEVERELY* tarnished by that.

PS Some of my ancestors DID fight for the Confederacy and DID own slaves, so yes, I do have a say in this matter, thanks for asking.

*hat tip to Jill Rod

It always royally pisses me off to see people from my home state waxing on about the Confederacy *cough*Steve King*cough.* If he'd attended local schools he might know that Iowa has a proud abolitionist history and made an outsized contribution to the union effort. He ought to read Marilynne Robinson, who has a beautiful Christian perspective on this history.

But I didn't even think of the disconnect with his Anabaptist roots til you brought it up. That's the icing on the cake, huh?

Wow. Way to go for someone with Mennonite roots to defend slavery and a person like Robert E. Lee. Mennonites were persecuted and killed during history for their pacifism. I wonder how his still Mennonite relatives thing about that.

Dear lord I can’t believe Cassidy is still traveling in that bus while 9 months pregnant! She must be a saint. I would have strangled someone who chewed too loud near me on that bus!

Lol! But I think they travel in their own RV or van.

From this post: "Josh and Cass have decided to continue with the family band after they are married. They will have separate living quarters to travel in but will be a integral part of our concerts."

I would also be very nervous to be so far from my medical provider so close to my due date (she's due in ~3 weeks, right?). But I wonder how much/what kind of prenatal care she has received at all. They've been on the road for months now, so I don't see how she could regularly see her doctor or midwife. I guess we don't really now much about what kind of prenatal care the Bontragers OR Bowerses receive, since it will be the first grandchild on both sides. Do we know anything about Mama Bon or Mama Bowers?
