I wish Paige would stay out of the spotlight, I think it would help her. Those poor boys, losing their dad (who seems like the much calmer parent).

I noticed in this article that Brandy, the woman they dated, and her daughter are wearing ATI shirts. Does anyone know, is that the same ATI that many of our other fundies are involved in?

They’re not. If you zoom in on the shirts, it looks like they say ATL, not ATI, and underneath the letters it says Atlanta, Georgia. So they’re probably touristy shirts from Atlanta

Merrifields: Dannielle and Garrick Merrifield live in Buena Vista, CO. They’ve been married 13 years. They met at church, started dating when Dannielle was 18, married when Dannielle was 19. They have two sons Gerimiah 11, and Solomon 10, they homeschool. They are Christians, two years ago they decided God wanted them to live a plural lifestyle, no polygamy in their background. Garrick said there are polygamist in the bible they were godly, and God loved them, so living a plural life is a way to follow Christ and be like him. Dannielle was shocked when Garrick first mentioned the idea of another wife, struggled with it, prayed about it, came around. Garrick said he didn’t move forward until Dannielle was on board. They met Roberta, on a polygamy dating site, have been courting Roberta for a year and four months. Their nickname for her is Bert. Roberta is Christian, this is her first plural relationship. Roberta lives in Brazil, and speaks Portuguese, the Merrifelds do not speak Portuguese, only English so they have to use a translating app to communicate. Dannielle and Garrick felt an instant connection with Roberta. They tried to have Roberta visit on a travel visa, but it was denied, so they met in Cabo, Mexico. Garrick, Dannielle, and their two sons met Roberta and her mom Ilga in Cabo. On the second night in Mexico Garrick proposed. That was the first night Garrick and Roberta were intimate. Sidian had a friend in a polygamous relationship, and he learned about it, and he and his first wife decided to explore it. Tosha said when Sidian first said he was a polygamist she thought it was a joke. Sidian’s first wife is Lillian and Tyrion’s mother. Tosha moved in with Sidian and his first wife after three months of dating. Initially the two women got along, and they had their own rooms and Sidian would switch off, but there was no schedule. After six months the first wife questioned if polygamy was for her, and Tosha chose to leave and let Sidian and the first wife work on their marriage. Tosha in a solo interview was asked by the director about her time apart from Sidian and the kids and she got emotional and starts to cry. Tosha said the time apart was difficult and didn’t think she would ever come back to the family. Sidian said things got worse after Tosha left, and his first wife ended their relationship. Tosha came to help with cooking, cleaning, the kids a month or two after Sidian’s first wife left. They decided they loved each other, wanted to be together in a polygamous lifestyle. They’ve been seeking a sister wife for the past year, no one special yet. Not all of Tosha’s family know she’s living a polygamous lifestyle.

Clarks: Jarod, Vanessa and Kaleh Clark from Fuquay-Varina, NC. The Clarks are moving into a new house closer to Jarod’s work. Jarod is a special education teacher for children with behavioral needs and he’s a coach and personal trainer. Jarod and Vanessa are legally married, 10 years. He researched kingdoms and tribes and was interested to learn when a king and had multiples queens who together built a kingdom. Jarod introduced polygamy to Vanessa three years ago, six and a half years into their marriage. Jarod said initially Vanessa said no. Vanessa said she felt it was more for Jarod than it was for her, and it was a stigma she had to get over. Vanessa researched polygamy and came to understand the benefits, and she agreed to try. Three and a half months later Kaleh came along. Jarod met Kaleh at a lounge, he was providing security and she ran the money box. Kaleh likes that in plural marriage you are never alone. Kaleh said she stumbled across polygamy at 18, she’s a free spirit, and now in her mid-twenties, she likes it. Vanessa said she had some jealousy when she first met Kaleh, they all meshed, and a couple of weeks later Kaleh moved in. Jarod has been in a relationship with Kaleh for two years. Vanessa said Kaleh means a lot to her, and she’d never pick monogamy again. They are out as a polygamist. Jarod said there are no schedules, no rules, it is fluid when it comes to sleeping arrangments. Jarod said they are not swingers, and the wives are not intimate with each other.  Kaleh in a solo interview said it is complicated to explain, and things aren’t good right now when asked by a producer where she stands with the family. Jarod said Kaleh isn’t presenting herself as the queen she can be right now. Vanessa said in a plural relationship there are ups and downs, right now they are experiencing downs, tension between the three adults.

Garrick Merrifield said when they told their families they were going to life a plural lifestyle it didn’t go well. His family disowned them. They thought Dannielle wanted to be a lesbian, he was a sex maniac, and they were possessed by demons. Dannielle in a solo interview said she and Garrick married young, struggled, didn’t think their marriage would survive, and in the past Garrick printed up divorce papers. She said with God they were able to work through it and grow. Dannielle said it is scary to think Garrick could run off with Roberta and leave her with nothing.

Ashley Snowden saged the room where Christeline is staying. The Snowden family goes to the airport to pick up Christeline.

Her parents do worry about Dannielle and the boys (Gerimiah and Solomon) because Dannielle will no longer be the legal wife.

Clarks (Jarod, Vanessa and Kaleh): Jarod and Vanessa tell the camera a month ago Vanessa came from work, saw a mess in the microwave, said to Kaleh to keep a better lookout for those types of things, Vanessa said the conversation didn’t go as intended, and Kaleh packed up her things and drove away. Jarod said Kaleh is helping them move in, but Kaleh isn’t living with them. Jarod said they are still in a relationship, Kaleh just isn’t living there right now. Kaleh said they are working towards her moving back in eventually and permanently, but now they are taking baby steps.

Joneses (Sidian and Tosha): Tosha is going to visit her mother. Tosha said they aren’t close, she moved out as a teenager, lost touch, and haven’t spoken much over the past eight years. Tosha’s sister Alexis told Teresa when Tosha started seeing Sidian. Teresa asks Tosha how many wives they want, and Tosha said at least one. Teresa says they’ll find whack jobs on the internet. Tosha said they don’t use the internet much, Sidian talks to people they know, mutual friends. Tosha said it is difficult to find someone who is open to it that isn’t doing it for religion. Teresa said that’s because they don’t want to join a cult and asks Tosha if she is a member of a cult. Tosha laughs and says no. Teresa asks if it is religious decision, and Tosha said no. Tosha said they call themselves modern polygamist. Teresa in a solo interview expresses concern, wonders about coercion, and expects Tosha will experience jealousy.

Christeline’s daughters are staying with her brother during the trip, and she hasn’t told her brother about the Snowdens, he thinks she’s visiting friends. Christeline’s daughters know but haven’t said anything. She is worried her family would think polygamy is a cult, or she’s in danger. The Snowdens haven’t told their families they are dating again.

Merrifields: Garrick and Dannielle take off their wedding rings before going to court to finalize the divorce. Dannielle has tears when saying yes, their marriage is irretrievably broken. They both agree it was emotional. Garrick says the divorce doesn’t change the way he feels about Dannielle.

Clarks: Kaleh says before she left, she gave all her energy to the family, none went toward her personal goals. Vanessa and Kaleh talk, and Kaleh says she feels Vanessa’s role of working outside the home is more important than hers staying home. Vanessa tells Kaleh they can switch and Kaleh could go work. Kaleh felt like she might not be good enough as a sister wife, she doesn’t have money, can’t pay bills, she felt she wasn’t needed. Kaleh in a solo interview said after she left she got two jobs, and feels confident now, has something to offer. Vanessa says she understands, and knows she leans on Kaleh, and had a hard time with her gone. Vanessa asks Kaleh how do they move forward? Kaleh said they are moving forward, and she’ll come around more. Kaleh in a solo interview said the conversation with Vanessa shed light on the pain she caused by leaving and didn’t know about. Kaleh feels like she failed Vanessa. Vanessa tells Kaleh she wants her to come back, and if she does it has to be a sure thing she won’t leave again.

Merrifields: The Merrifield family, Dannielle’s parents (Scott and Luann), Dannielle’s brother Sam and his wife Samantha gather to celebrate Sam’s birthday on the day of the divorce. Sam said to the camera (not with the crowd) he doesn’t like the fact they had to get divorced and worries if Garrick passed away would Roberta get the house and Dannielle be left with nothing. It will be six months to a year before Roberta can get the K1 visa, and they’ll have 90 days to get married. Garrick and Dannielle are going to Mexico in two weeks to meet up with Roberta, just the three of them. Garrick said he lost his brother, sister, his family by doing what God wanted him to do. Garrick said once they met Roberta it was worth the suffering and the loss. Samantha said she has some questions, and they met Roberta on vacation, and that’s different than reality. Dannielle said she and Garrick are done having children, and Roberta would like to start having children as soon as possible. Samantha asks about sleeping arrangements, and Garrick said they’ll have a rotation. Samantha asks Dannielle how that will affect her. Dannielle said it will be difficult at first, but she’ll focus on the positive not the negative. Sam asks what if they say Roberta can’t come into the country? Garrick said that could cause them to have to move as a family to another country. Dannielle said she knows moving to another country where you don’t know the language or culture is difficult, but Roberta is willing to make that change, so she is also willing. Sam says to the camera he wonders if Dannielle and Garrick have really thought it through. Garrick said moving would be God’s way of forcing them to do something outside of their comfort zone. Samantha said that would be difficult for her, she doesn’t have her parents, and doesn’t want the Merrifields to move away.

SSW S3 E3 I Gotta Have Faith

Snowdens (Ashley and Dimitri): The children have really taken to Christeline (potential sister wife). Dimitri said that is what they wanted, more wives, more kids, more love. Christeline’s highlight of the trip was seeing them waiting for her at the airport. Christeline says she has a bit of culture shock, but she’s calm, contained and feels like she fits in. The Snowdens have another potential sister wife Tayler, 29, henna artist from Atlanta, this is her first polygamist relationship, and they also met her online, haven’t met her in person yet. They started dating Tayler two months after Chrissy (Christeline). Chrissy says she’s not jealous, when asked by Dimitri if she is worried about competing. Christeline said she and Tayler speak daily. Christeline in a solo interview said it has been a little overwhelming, but she’s enjoying it, and hopes it lasts. Ashley feels the four adults are aligned, loves the sisterhood, worried it is too good to be true. Tayler doesn’t have kids, and is excited about the kids, but Ashley wonders how it will work out. Tayler tells the Snowdens and Christeline she always liked another girl’s boyfriend in grade school. Tayler said they would say she was a homewrecker, she stole the boyfriend, and Tayler said you can stay you don’t have to go. Dimitri said so this has been in the works for a while. Tayler said she didn’t know it was ok, and that’s why she loves them because they accept her for who she is. The producer asks Dimitri and Ashley if they are worried, they are biting off more than they can chew. Dimitri said they are taking a big bite for sure, but how often do you get two serious potential sister wives? They decided to explore the possibilities.

Merrifields (Dannielle and Garrick): Dannielle and Garrick are going to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico to visit Roberta. Dannielle said now that the divorce is final, they will look at wedding venue options because they’ll only have 90 days once Roberta arrives on the K1 visa.

Winders (Colton, Tami, Sophie): They live in southern Utah. Colton and Tami have daughter Sadie 4, and Sophie is seven months pregnant with a boy. Sophie said it was surprise, they’d been trying for several years. Tami said she had a lot of emotions to work through. Colton said they are Independent Mormon Fundamentalist, and they subscribe to more original older doctrine of plural marriage, and believe marriage is for eternity. They believe God has wives, and there is only one way to become more like God, living plural marriage. Colton said the first year of marriage to Sophie (second wife) they were in the closet, so Tami and Sophie lived in separate towns. They lived separately while polygamy was a felony crime in Utah. Utah changed the law and polygamy is now on the level of a traffic citation, so they moved in under one roof. Tami and Sophie in an interview say their rooms are on different floors on different sides of the house, and Sophie said that way they have privacy, and don’t hear each other having sex. The adults are preparing the nursery. Tami and Sophie agree it was a challenge to move in together, and neither realized how hard it would be. Tami said communication is an obstacle because Sophie says what she thinks, where she sits and stews. The wives alternate every other night with Colton. Colton jokes he spends a lot of time with his third wife, the farm. Colton is a pharmacist and works on the farm in his spare time. They have a new potential sister wife, Kimberley, 30, she reached out to the family on social media. Kimberley is a teacher in North Carolina and has a daughter. Colton said it is their job to be open to God’s will, and that may include another wife. They are going to ask Kimberley to come visit them.

Merrifields: Garrick said Roberta is tiny they call her the tiny wife, and Dannielle is the large wife. (I think  he is referring to height, I don’t think it is weight). Roberta in a solo interview said she’s 32, will be 33 in March, this is her first polygamous relationship. She went to publicity school, and a member of the college board told her about Mormons, and she saw herself in those women. She found Dannielle and Garrick online, and for her polygamy is synonymous of love. They use the translation app to speak to Roberta. Roberta tells the camera she is apprehensive about the divorce, and how much it must have hurt her sister Dannielle; she doesn’t want her to feel left out. Garrick said no intimacy between Dannielle and Roberta, but he hopes they have a close friendship. Garrick and Roberta will share a room all eight nights, Dannielle is in her own room right next door. Dannielle wants to be fair about time since she has Garrick alone at home.

Joneses (Tosha and Sidian): The producer asks what their dream sister wife would be. Sidian said someone with a fair amount of independence, high emotional intelligence. Tosha said cute. Tosha wants support and friendship. They don’t have any set rules, typically first Sidian sees if he hits it off with a woman, then Tosha sees if she connects with her. Sidian said alternative relationships have come a long way in the public eye, but still gets nervous when sharing he is a polygamist. They flag down the bartender, said they’d like to get to know her, tell her they’re polygamist, ask what she thinks about polygamy. Tosha asks if she would be open to going on a date with Sidian, or Sidian and Tosha. Faith the bartender said that sounds fine and gives them her number.

Snowdens: Dimitri and Christeline went salsa dancing on her last night in the US. Ashley said she doesn’t experience jealousy when Dimitri goes on a date with a potential sister wife. Dimitri is worried the distance will affect the relationship.

Winders: Colton said Kimberley is kind, thoughtful and open-minded. Sophie said she is the primary contact for Kimberley. Sophie said Tami and Colton aren’t great at online conversing, better in person. They have a video chat with Kimberley, and there is lots of awkward laughing. Colton asks Kimberley to come visit, and she said yes. Sophie is due in eight weeks, wants Kimberley to visit before she has the baby.

Merrifields: Dannielle said seeing Roberta and Garrick hug, kiss, embrace is awkward, and will take some adjustment. Roberta and Dannielle both said (in separate interviews) it is awkward to share a wall, and don’t want to hear the other having sex.

SSW S3 E4 Emotions and Commotion

Merrifields (Garrick and Dannielle): The scene opens with all three in one bed (all fully clothed) with Garrick in the middle. Dannielle said Roberta came to her room, demanded Dannielle come to her room with Garrick, she was worried about her alone, and the three adults stayed up talking until 2am. Dannielle tells the camera she appreciates Roberta postponing intimacy to include her. Garrick said he and Roberta were able to be intimate quickly once Roberta convinced Dannielle to stay with them, while Dannielle went to her room to get her things. Garrick laughs while saying Roberta said oh no sister will be back while being intimate. The producer asked if Dannielle knows that, and Garrick laughs and says no. They are going to look at wedding venue options.

Clarks (Jarod, Vanessa and Kaleh): Kaleh has not moved back in yet. Jarod is having a tribal meeting that evening, everyone can speak, and he plays judge and jury he’s the king, the leader (his words). Jarod feels Kaleh having multiple jobs is taking time away from the family, and not helping the tribe. Jarod said he protects and provides, and before Kaleh leaving they were doing just fine. Kaleh feels she is solely receiving the blame for her leaving, and feels it isn’t accurate. Vanessa said Jarod and Kaleh have strong personalities, and when they feel they aren’t being heard they stop listening. Kaleh tells Jarod she and Vanessa talked the day before and Kaleh agreed she’ll spend more with the family. Jarod said he doesn’t feel that is enough. Kaleh walks out, said it’s not all her fault. They had to bleep a lot of words. Kaleh said Jarod is trying to make himself look like the bigger man, that she was a piece of garbage they cleaned up.

Winders (Colton, Tami and Sophie): Tami and Sophie go furniture shopping. Tami is throwing Sophie a baby shower. Sophie is a midwifery apprentice. They feel living in one house they’ve gotten closer. Tami said she’s trying to get pregnant; she’s had several miscarriages at eight weeks. Tami said she is happy for Sophie but has her own struggles. Tami is starting oral medication, and hopes it helps.

Snowdens (Dimitri and Ashley): Christeline is leaving for South Africa today, and both Dimitri and Ashley worry about the distance once she goes home. Christeline would like to return with her daughters to meet the Snowdens. Tayler is arriving in a few days.

Winders: Sophie’s baby shower. Sophie’s mom, grandma, aunts, and friends came, and she said not all of the agree with plural marriage, but support Sophie. Sophie’s grandmother (mom’s side) Charlotte was not raised polygamist, chose it as an adult, and said there were some tough times. Sophie’s aunt Laura asks Tami will she feel like the maid once Sophie has the baby, and Tami said no because Sophie would pick up the slack if Tami was pregnant. Laura said Sophie is her husband’s niece. Her husband was raised in a polygamous family, and she has seen situations where polygamy does not work well. Grandma Charlotte said she’s been polygamous for 50 years, and you need the right fit to be a cohesive unit. Sophie’s aunt Bethanie asks about a possible third wife. April, Sophie’s mom, was surprised they are considering a third wife, with the new house, and baby on the way. Sophie and Tami said a potential sister wife can’t just try out being a sister wife. Charlotte said she had a sister wife that wanted to try out polygamy and she lasted one baby and took the baby with her. Tami made Sophie a beautiful baby blanket.

Clarks: The producer asks Jarod what happened. Jarod said he and Kaleh had a disagreement with how Kaleh spends more time at her jobs than with her child, and things escalated. Vanessa tells Kaleh she loves her and gives her a hug. The wives agree Jarod can make them angry. Vanessa brings Kaleh back inside. Kaleh said she’ll be there tomorrow after 8pm after she works a double. Kaleh in a solo interview said her two jobs bother Jarod, but she has to be realistic and if things don’t work out, she doesn’t want to be in a position where she has nothing. Kaleh asks Jarod for a kiss or asks if she is not worthy, he passes, she said not worthy, thought so, and leaves.

Snowdens: Dimitri said he is nervous, has butterflies meeting Tayler. Tayler said polygamy is new to her, but she never felt people were possessions. The producer asks Tayler is she sees herself as being a Mrs. Snowden and Tayler said she secretly writes that in her diary. The kids are climbing all over Tayler. Ashley said Tayler commands attention when she walks in a room, which is different from Christeline who is reserved. Ashley is concerned Tayler is coming from a life of independence and freedom and wonders would the family life be too much for her.

Merrifields: Dannielle said the wedding ceremony will be in Mexico so Roberta’s family from Brazil can use their passport, but not need a visa. They tour wedding venues. Roberta wants Dannielle involved in wedding planning and wants her to feel included. Garrick said his best man will be his friend Bill, and Dannielle says Sam too (presumably Dannielle’s brother Sam) and Garrick says he doesn’t know. Dannielle said seeing Garrick with Roberta now that they are divorced is hitting her hard. Dannielle says she’s a bit jealous, and wonders if her wedding meant as much as Roberta’s will. Dannielle and Garrick’s wedding was an outdoor ceremony with trees and grass with an indoor reception with some dancing. Dannielle said none of them had the view of the ocean. Dannielle will be maid of honor. Dannielle tells the wedding planner they are a plural family. Dannielle shares her fear that people can change over time, and wonder if Garrick or Roberta’s feeling for her will change.

What I'm getting from this is that polygamy has some benefits for the men (power, prestige, sex, just to name a few), but very little for the women.

I've yet to hear a compelling argument for real benefits for the children.

Ashley and Dimitri agree they want someone for the long term.

Joneses (Tosha and Sidian): Across the screen it says “Several weeks into filming, the state of Idaho issued a stay-at-home order to slow the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19). Dannielle in a solo interview is hurt Garrick is prioritizing Roberta’s feelings over hers. Garrick in a solo interview said he can tell Dannielle is upset, but he needs time with both of them, part of the plural lifestyle, and he shouldn’t feel guilty about that.

Kaleh wants Jarod to have faith in her to make the process smoother. Kaleh must go to her second job, says it is important to her.
