I have friends who's first "big boy jobs" were retail, because that was the job they intended to do long term.

I have a client who's first "big girl job" was in retail and it turned into a career for her she's been doing it for over 30 years. According to her sister she always ment to start working in an office but it never happened.

Yep, this happens.  Which is why to me the idea of your first grown up or big girl/boy job is personal.  It depends on your goals

My brain still can't reconcile the term "big girl job" with the concept that it's supposed to be your first 'real', 'adult', career-oriented job. It seems totally contradictory. If someone described their 14-year-old daughter's babysitting gig as her first "big girl job" I would think they were being unnecessarily infantilizing. But I think we've established that some people think the term is weird and some don't have a problem with it, so it's probably just one of those personal things (i.e. I also hate the word 'hubby' - it's like nails on a chalkboard - but have no issue with 'baby bump') so I'm going to move on lest I become a dead parrot. :pb_lol:

Regarding these things being BEC... I think for me they're the opposite of BEC:pb_lol:BEC is when otherwise innocuous things annoy you because you dislike the person, while I dislike a lot of these things, like cutesy nicknames for spouses, even when I like the person using them!

All of these are pretty minor annoyances, though.

In a similar vein, I purposefully annoy my oldest, very serious son (in a good-natured way) by proclaiming things he does as "baby's first!" whatever . . .  So, it was Baby's First college acceptance! Baby's First tax return!  And, when he had a Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition, it was "Baby's First porn!"  He's almost 20 and it just amuses me.  :confusion-shrug:

Putting this into my memory banks for 20 years from now when my little one is older.

My teen is into anime. He wanted a specific graphic novel really badly for his B-Day a few weeks ago. I told him I wasn't buying him his first paperback nerdy boy porn. Same concept? LMAO

I do this to my son but he loves it, I'll say something about "my baby boy" now my daughter, she has a love/hate thing going when I do it. I don't see a problem with it.
