Ernest Angley’s church accused of grabbing woman’s life savings

Awhile back we had a discussion about this scam artist (who, sadly, is local to me).  For those who aren't aware, he is an elderly televangelist/megachurch leader here in Ohio.  He and his "church" are well-known for greed, scamming, and corruption.  Now they are accused of scamming a mentally disabled, elderly woman out of over $300,000.

I don't understand how people can get sucked in by him.  His creepy voice scares me off.  Funny thing is, his Associate Pastor has developed the same creepy way of talking, so much so that people have asked if he is Angley's son (he's not - thankfully Angley and his wife never spawned offspring).  It's a cult for sure, and it creeps me out just to drive by their buildings.

Very sad (and yet not shocking) to think how some people would target the most vulnerable.

Oh, those articles aren't even the beginning with Ernest Angley. Why, he ran a restaurant business using the free or cheap  labor of his church members.

This was a federal wage and hour case. The judge followed the Supreme Court's ruling in Tony & Susan Alamo Found. v. Sec'y of Labor, 471 US 290 (1985), which was a cult making popular jean jackets and using the labor of people who lived with the cult without compensation beyond room and board. Monkey see, monkey do seems to be the fundie way -- e.g., C.J. Mahaney's shaved, bald head and those of his SIL, Steve Whitacre, or erstwhile BFF, Josh Harris.

Angley is certainly a vile piece of work.
