Strange Books

Resurrecting a pretty old thread to agree that House of Leaves is by far the strangest and most haunting book I've ever read. I read it soon after it came out (I think) so early 2000s while in college, and there are still nights when it suddenly pops into my head to terrify me and give me nightmares. And I don't know why! I couldn't even tell you particulars of the plot or most character names, but the feeling of reading that book really stuck with me.

Is As I Lay Dying the one with the brother who puts his broken foot in a cement cast? I remember that and the chapter with Sartorius "My mother is a fish". I read a lot of Faulkner in college (not by choice) and I never really could get into his work.
