I called this. I said that if Perry tanks with social conservative patriarch's, they would start calling for Huckabee to run.

Wow, they're really getting desperate, aren't they? Obama's going to win in 2012 because the Republicans running are all a bunch of clowns.

That's exactly what I'm hoping for

I wonder if it's true, or if it's wishful thinking from the Republicans (like how they keep thinking Christie might run despite him clearly saying no). Huckabee has been pretty clear before about not running for this election.

He's had the same problems as Perry before with showing that he is occasionally a decent human being, like being sympathetic to immigrants. Conservatives still really like him, though; most of my family wanted him for president last time. I'm definitely very interested to see who will get the nomination. No one looks good right now, and isn't the deadline pretty soon?

I really don't think Hermann Cain is much of a clown. I disagree with him on a few fronts, but out of all the other Republican candidates he's much less of a clown. Bachmann is batshit insane, Perry is a white evangelical Obama (too naive, I think, and is all bark and no bite), Romney is just a clown, Paul can't wean himself off Ayn Rand's teat, Huckabee is an idiot who hopes to be elected pretty much on his faith alone.

I don't want to have to vote for Obama, but it's not like I'll have much of a choice with the Republican circus.

He's said a lot of horrible things about Muslim Americans, including that he wouldn't have them work in his administration (U.S. Constitution fail!) and that communities have a right to block mosques from being built (more U.S. Constitution fail!)

I can't stand him. He does make me laugh though, claiming to respect the Constitution, but throwing it willy-nilly out the window when it gets in the way of his bigotry.

And while that may endure him to anti-Muslim social conservatives, it would make him less attractive to moderates and independents in an open primary.

I agree with you, being an independent voter myself. I also think that a lot of Republicans won't vote for him because they don't like having a black president.

Ick. I hope he doesn't run, though I would be really surprised if he does. In the end, I think it'll be Perry who wins the nomination. As a moderate, I'll probably be voting third party next year. Ugh! Politicians suck!

I'm afraid you may be right about Perry. He fills me with fear and loathing. (Apologies to the shade of Hunter S. Thompson.) Personally I think Obama is pretty damn moderate, too much so in my opinion.

I'm betting on Romney, just for being not totally crazy and also for being pro-business, they fund him well.

He's sort of the best out of a bad lot in my opinion, but he was for a lot of things before he was against them. He was pro-choice until about 2004. He's got a reputation for being a flip flopper and his Mormonism is going to hurt him with the far right evangelicals.

Cain's getting a lot of positive buzz but I wouldn't put too much money on it outlasting the kind of scrutiny presidential candidates get. Also he has no government experience, which doesn't tend to play well overall. Maybe he could be the Perot of 2012.

Ewww No! to a Huckabee presidency. It was bad enough that he was governor of arkansas for way too many years. Plus he has ties to Bill Gothard's organization. NO!
