The foundation of the United States is literally built of off racism and genocide.

I'm so tired of D-wreck and his mayo white self.

Here's a pic of me reacting to his tweet.

Long time lurker first time poster.

I always think Ben and Derick go after each other in tweets. Ben recently posted about Racism and his father just did a whole blog on it.  All of a sudden with no major news story he replies with this tweet?

I've coined 2 new words for Derick [unless they already exist]:

@SCROW10 Ben dad did a blog on racism? Wow, he hasn't blogged in a few years IIRC

I have stuff to do now but I'll be back later today to review/drag his post if I detect any bullshit (probably will...Michael Seewald has posted some bs in the past)

Well, I for one NEVER thought the day would come when I would have more respect for Ben than Derick.  But here we are.

I think Derick is trying to start a "twitter ministry" for himself, because it's literally the only thing that would require LESS work than playing games with the kids on mission-cations.  And I find it rather ironic that he married the WRONG Duggar daughter for that dream.  Not that Jessa would have had him.

Speaking of Jessa, every day that passes makes me respect her more and more for her courtship.  She knew what she wanted, it was unconventional, she got it anyway, vetted to her own personal satisfaction, and didn't budge even when her sister swooped in with the upstage.  Jessa stuck to her guns and had her eyes on the prize, and I have to give her credit for that.  I would NOT have had the wisdom to do the same at her age, but man, well done Jessa.

I wonder what Derick has on his resume?  Derick Dillard: Reality TV "Star", former accountant, disgraced missionary, and WHITE MALE.  This isn't Mad Men, Derick, and you are NO Don Draper.  That's not going to be enough.

I feel like I’ve said this a million times, but what’s once more? :pb_lol:

Jill did not “upstage” or steal attention from Jessa. When you have that many siblings so close in age you’re bound to have some overlap (like JinJer marrying on Spurgeon’s first birthday.) Both couples began courting within two months of each other. At the time Derick - who was in his mid-20s and had a good job once returning from Nepal - gave the appearance of having his shit together more than Ben - who was a teenager, still in school, and working to save up -did.* It made sense to approve the Dill’s engagement plans first because they seemed prepared for marriage, whereas Benessa were still working towards that step.

Not to mention, the speed of the relationship seems to be determined more by the man - he asks permission to get to know the woman, he asks permission to court, and he asks permission to marry her**. Other than agreeing or declining, the woman doesn’t seem to have much control over how fast or slow things move.

I don’t think Benessa ever really cared much that the Dills married first. I think you do have a good point that Jessa knew what she wanted and didn’t budge from their plans. But these things happen sometimes and it would have been unfair to prevent the second couple from moving forward simply because the couple courting first wasn't ready for that step yet. If people really need to blame someone then I would nominate Jim Bob, the person responsible for approving courtships and engagements.

*Oh how times have changed.

**I just cringed so bad writing that because it’s a gross concept that you heed permission to even talk to someone.

Benny boy for the win! Let's play a game,  I'm thinking of two white men whose names start with "D" that  need to have their phones and devices taken away from them...

They live like 80 miles from Harrison, AR. The most racist town in America.

I can't even. That's on the level of him starting off a sentence "I'm not racist, but..."

Has Jeremy waded in on Derrick's rubbish yet?

Nah and he probably won't.

All Jeremy's tweets (and sermons) are about theology. He's the trendy intellectual Christian and probably too caught up in it to be really bothered with broad social issues.

D-wreck is the worst so far but none of the Duggars or their spouses have demonstrated that they truly understand or care about racism. Even Jeremy and Ben describe racism as a 'sin' thing rather than a systemic issue.

None of them probably believe they are racist. All of them have perpetuated/benefited racism in some capacity because they are white. They don't get that, though.

Don't mistake  their lack of overt ignorance for understanding.

These are good points.  And I should clarify, I don't think the Dillards intended at all to do anything malicious to Ben and Jessa.  But still, it is a tough situation to be in when a sibling is getting married before you and you have been with your partner longer...even by only a few months.

I think my point I would feel upstaged if a similar situation played out in my family (and it very well might).  It wouldn't be logical, but that would be my emotional reaction.  And I probably wouldn't have handled it as well as Jessa did (though maybe she was expecting it and it wasn't even a thing for her).

I don't think there was any malice going on, but it was still a bit of a tough position for Jessa to be in, and one I thought she handled admirably and to her own advantage.  And I respect that because I would not have handled it so well myself.

Well that's long, I don't wanna read all that :pb_lol:

From skimming, he seems to be condemning racism but bitching about the idea of "white guilt" and lumping all white people together (I agree on this, please don't lump me in with this asshole), and how "leftists" are trying to take over and turn America into a socialist society, and BLM isn't Christian (did they ever claim to be? And how does not being Christian make the movement or anything else not-Christian less valid?). And his "practical" (his word, not mine) advice to stop racism is to pray to Jesus. Because that totally works, and nobody ever has committed horrible acts in his name.

Oh damn, I went back and did some reading. Racist jackass. Quote under spoiler, bolding and stuff mine.

Spoiler

"That is not to downplay the fact that the black community is plagued with some very serious social problems.  Real problems like an unprecedented percentage of unwed mothers and fatherless children, generational government dependency, violence, illegal drug use, gang activity, poor education, and extreme poverty. These problems cannot be solved by blame shifting. Yes, there are contributing factors as to why this is the case. Slavery, Jim Crow, and Socialist government policies all have had a significant effect. Nevertheless, these are not the primary cause of the problems in the black community. The primary cause of these problems is the everyday choices that many of those in this condition make. For example, the choice to have sex outside of marriage is a personal choice that is at the root of many of these social ills. Approximately seventy five percent of black children grow up without a father in the home. This fatherlessness makes these children four times as likely to be impoverished as children who do have a father in the home, not to mention the susceptibility this exposes them to things like violence, gang activity, and teenage pregnancy. But this is not caused by racism or systematic oppression. It is caused by personal disobedience to God’s law"

So uh, that's towards the end. Anyone want to go find the more problematic pieces earlier in it? I can if no one else wants to.

Oh i am so glad I am not the only one to point this part out. I found him so utterly condescending.

I see Ben as being kind of like the guy from what was the the Promise Keepers back in the day. More important to promote Christianity and male "leadership", and if that means allying with black men who are also Christian soldiers in order to create a Christian country and solidify male dominance, then that's the way to go. There's no real understanding--and who would expect one--but he's willing to give some thought to discrimination against black male Christians.

At the very least, Jessa seems to have been a better judge of character than Jill. Although I have to say, even though Jill's holier-than-thou teacher's pet persona always annoyed me, in the secular world I've seen plenty of wonderful people choose the wrong spouse for all kinds of reason. Obviously the courtship "process" makes it a crap shoot in the best of scenarios.

Thanks! I came here after seeing it. And kudos to you for getting through that garbage, have your favorite beverage and food on me.
