I'm also a Canadian who hates poutine. But I tend to hate cheese in general. I know, I know! It's a genetic aversion. My dad hates it too. My mum thinks we're crazy. I'll see myself out.

For those of you who haven't yet tried poutine, if you do, make sure the place you get it from uses cheese curds, not anything else.

Yes, absolutely. Even as someone who doesn't like poutine, it's not really poutine unless it's made with cheese curds. Anything else is just cheesy fries.

Cheese, GAG, I'm not a fan of the cheese either. The idea of poutine is revolting soggy fries covered in gravy and cheese, there is NOTHING that sounds appealing about that.

To be fair to cheese, it dislikes me as much as I disk like it.

I like cheese, but you described it all pretty well to me. I like french fries maybe once a season, if they are very crispy and nothing else at all. I remember when people were dumping things on baked potatoes and then later on fries, like chili, etc., and it just sounded horrible to me. I don't get why all the food has to have cheese on it these days, never mind random other things.

Clearly poutine isn't objectively horrible as so many people like it. But for me it is a non-starter.

Re: Canadians who don't like Poutine, i can understand. I grew up with a Dad who was constantly lecturing us about saturated fat, cholesterol, and getting enough fibre. I also had a strange aversion to melted cheese as a kid.

The first time I tried Poutine, I was 18 and high on shrooms at a house party. I started by just picking at the fries with gravy towards the side of the takeout dish. By the time I got to the cheese, it was at a food porn level of melty chewy stringyness, and my mind was blown. I am now a firm believer that there's no such thing as too much cheese

As for Tim's I get the impression that nobody actually likes the coffee, it's just cheap and convenient.

I make my own poutine.  There is no such thing as too much poutine.  Ever.  :D

And I love Tim's, it fuels this shiftworker.

As a Tea Drinking Canadian, I go to Tim's for the tea.  My order:  large tea, bag(s) in, two milk.  Most restaurant's don't use hot enough water for good tea.

This American LOVES Timmie's. We now have them in our area, and I do make a point to go there for good coffee (much better than Starbucks).

In the UK, I love Costa Coffee.

@Playagirl butter tarts. OMG. I made those for this guy- he told me they were his favorite- and I sent them to Canada to him. I figured out a few weeks later he wasn't interested in me like that..... In my head I was all like "asshole, I f-ing made you HOMEMADE BUTTER TARTS!! HOME-FUCKING-MADE BUTTER TARTS!!!! And I spent good money to ship them to you. You at least could have been honest with me from day one...." I have learned no man gets homemade baked goods again unless some hot kissing happens first.

When I made the butter tarts, I asked him how many times he had made them- Stupid Boy tells me "Never. We always buy them. The only people who can really make them are 80 year old women." Fuck..... fuck, fuck, fuck.........FUCK.

Two weeks later he stopped talking to me just like abruptly and I found out 1. He doesn't like women and 2. I couldn't eat gluten anymore because it was exacerbating my eczema.

Butter tarts trigger me. Sorry.

I need some Pulled Pork BBQ poutine from the bar in Aruba. And yes the cheese curds make the poutine. I'd hate to see what the lady spends to get cheese curds shipped to the Island. But lawd hammercy they are worth it!

I always found Timmy's put way too much milk in my tea. I eventually switched to drinking my tea black, though, so maybe it was just me.

As for accents, I'm told I have a NJ accent and say certain things "funny" such as button or Manhattan. Maybe it's true? Other Jersey folk (from the North), you get the same thing?

Just catching up so a bit behind---but I am from central Jersey, and I constantly have people telling me I have a "Jersey Accent"   What the heck is that anyway?  LOL   I've been told I pronounce ball as Bwall ( I guess) and water and coffee oddly.....I dont hear it.

Ah but have you experienced the screw ups they do?  Driving home from work this morning, I ordered my standard large double double coffee and received a large half coffee HALF TEA.  I gagged.

Also a tea drinking shift worker who occasionally orders Timmy's teas. I must say, roll up the rim to win season has yielded a few free cups for me.

Re: butter tarts. While visiting family in Toronto recently, I had the pleasure of eating a Maple Bacon Butter Tart. For anybody who loves the mix of sweet and salty/savoury,  this is pure magic.

@Carm_88, I despised maple with a passion until a couple of years ago. Now I love a good quality maple syrup on my pancakes and I crave maple cookies. I blame menopause for my changing taste buds...

I have the accent that is stereotyped in American films as being "British". Actually only a tiny area of GB has that kind of accent (think Colin Firth crossed with Hermione Granger) and it shows how easy it is to fall into stereotypes. Is it true that certain programmes on BBC America need subtitles? Although to be fair here they put subtitles on Rab C Nesbit for those outside of Scotland

My entire family is British.  My sibling and I were born in the states.  I have no issue understanding, but I have seen subtitles on shows with British accents!  It's definitely not all of them, but gypsy wedding has definitely had them (not a show I regularly watch but I scrolled through and noticed this).

I have Irish relatives as well and when we went to visit the farm when I was 18, I needed help translating what they said.  I'm not sure my mum even caught everything.

Tim Horton's is the biggest corporate swindle in history...I mean, they managed to bamboozle a whole COUNTRY! I refuse to hang my patriotism on a corporation...the coffee is awful and the food is terrible too.

A particular brand of coffee is not what makes me a good Canadian.

Counting on - "finding joy's dress" - part 1

I guess whomever was in charge of coming up with a witty episode title was on vacation this week.

Why does every episode start with cows?  I'm just sayin...

Joy orchestrates all the littles packing going to "find my wedding dress."  There is a check list but the littles arent feeling it.

Joy runs through a list of people she was supposed to call "and I forgot."

Flashbacks of "Ms Renee" finding Jinger's wedding dress.

Jordyn and Josie are coming along.  Jordyn is excited, Josie is fucking around with her glasses.

Joy sits on Jinger's bed and talks about how she wants to do her hair. Jana explains that this will be different because Joy is clueless.  Producer asks Joy about her hair, shoes etc.  Joy says that she'll figure it out. She has 25 days.

Joy douesnt like wearing dresses, she's the "jean skirt and t shirt" girl.

Flasbacks to joy doing shit

They leave.

At Benessa's house Bin packs.  They make bottles of GASP - FORMULA!

Jessa is excited to go wtih Joy. Jessa packs a curling iron.  This is the third curling iron we've seen packed in 6 minutes.  Do these girls not share?

Bin changes spurge and bumps his head.  He cries. Jessa explains that if you stay calm its no big deal. Spurge cries.  Jessa explains that she cant be "super involved" if the kids were there, so bin is coming to keep the kids.

At the TTH... its 6 am.  Michelle calls out over the intercom and its way too fucking long of an announcement for 6 am.  Also, she's only paging girls... they're all in one room.  Why the fuck are you on the intercom?

Joy explains duggar time.

6:35 - Michelle says "we're 4 minutes past time." Except she said she was leaving in 15 minutes at 6 am... so... math... yeah.

Jeremy - this is the first night we're spending apart since we've been married. I think I'll survive.

Austin - I'm renovating and joy is looking for a dress.

They go into the house.

Joy - austin gets more work done when I'm not there.

Austin explains how they're going to put a beam up.  "Mr dwayne" is coming to help me and my mom came up with the vaulted ceiling.

Dwayne - I've known him since he's a boy and its pretty incredible.

They rip down sheet rock and the ceiling.

Austin - this is our house and we'll start our family here.

Jed shows up "ready to work."  More ripping shit down.

Jed - it will be a mirable if he gets this done.

Producer asks various duggars was a "lam beam" is.  No one knows... Jessa guesses right.

Back to the house, they heave the beam up.  Austin explains that if they fuck it up the roof can collapse.

Kentucky

Michelle states the fucking obvious that they're at "ms renee's place" because no one can read the sign on the store, clearly.

They go for lunch and discuss the dress.  Jessa talks about her dress... now we get to see pictures of the prior dresses and wy joy doesnt like them. No mention of Anna's dress. Joy reminds us she's done this 3 times.  Michelle chimes in that Mary shared pieces of her dress and Michelle happens to have some with her.  Joy also has Austin's mom's dress.  Michelle pretends to not be pissed that she's not special.

Joy wants to call austin.  She facetimes him.  Michelle says "we're getting a hot pink wedding dress." They facetime eachothe and, of course, michelle is right in the background nodding that the vaulted ceiling was a good idea. They say they love eachoter and hang up.

At Tim's I get a large steeped tea with one milk, though even then its usually too much milk. Even when if people don't really like Tim's they usually still end up there at least some of the time because they are everywhere... I am sitting less than a 5 minute drive from two of them right now.

On another note TLC is currently airing 90 Day Fiance instead of Counting On spot in my area...  Is there anyone else experiencing the same?
