In Adeline's insta video they talk about the pregnancy, I do think she might be around 30 weeks so she's gonna have the baby before Norah's first bday... those Mortons reproduce fast.

I've said this multiple times on FJ but I think a second child close in age to the first is a huge adjustment. And you often will see a wider gap between #2 and #3 because of it. When you have one, it's easy to devote all your time to that one kid. And when daddy gets home, you get a break. When baby naps, you can clean, cook, nap, or just surf the web. You get some much needed "me time" with just one.

So they quickly and easily get pregnant with #2. Because after you get the baby to bed, you have some alone time. You have plenty of time for sweet fellowship.

Then #2 comes along when#1 is only a year old. 1 is getting into everything and making huge messes while the newborn is up all night long and wanting to nurse every 2 hours all day long. They never seem to nap at the same time soyou don't get much of a break during the day. Then after you finally get both to bed you are probably too exhausted to have sweet fellowship every night.

This is why we will see a bigger gap in a lot of fundies. I bet we will see it with Jessa, Erin, Whitney, and Alyssa. They all had their first two babies less than 2 years apart. I wouldn't be surprised if they all had a bit wider gaps next time around.

I believe that birth order is very close to Jill Rod's first four as well. She had two sets of Irish twins. Maybe that's why she's so crazy.

Have you seen her wedding video? She was crazy well before the kids came along.

I always wonder what it's like for people who have twins right off the bat, like Lora Lynn Fanning. I feel like going from zero to two kids might give you less of an opportunity to ease into the whole parenting thing.

I didn't see this upthread, but if it's been posted, I apologize. Julie Mueller Knox is expecting (and due fairly soon) per her sister Kimberly's public Instagram.

My ex-MIL experienced this. She was from a conservative family, married my former FIL after a very short period of dating (that they called a "courtship", but which featured at least one late-night car ride together), then fell pregnant less than 2 months after the wedding. Identical twin girls.  By the time the next baby came, the twins were toddlers. MIL said that she felt like a single newborn was a vacation after having two right out of the gate.

I wonder when Kimberly (Mueller) Palazzolo will start producing arrows for the quiver.

I still have hopes that she will be more normal than her sisters and SILs, and enjoy a bit of breeding freedom...

Not Valerie though, she had only 2 in 5(?) years. Bitten there is always the exception to the rule.

I have read some of their posts over the years and it seems they are not fertile Myrtles. I get the impression they anted to get pregnant with their first and it took a long time.  And I would venture to say they are lucky they are not super fertile. Having children in the spacing they currently have would be ideal for a lot of couples.

And just looking at the Waller grandchildren, the Waller children don't seem to be super fertile. They all seem to have decent gaps between children.

I remember a post that Adam (Valerie's husband) wrote on their blog where he talked about how hard it was for them because it took so long for Valerie to get pregnant the first time. It actually didn't take them a really long time to get pregnant. Valerie got pregnant 9 months after they got married.

Isn't it absurd that in FundieWorld, being several months pregnant on your first wedding anniversary is counted as a person not being very fertile because they took SO LONG to get pregnant.

Yes it's funny. I think they are just used to seeing almost every other fundie get pregnant within the first 3 months of marriage so their norm is completely skewed. They could end up with only 4 or 5 kids total and would most likely have a much healthier family life because of it.

I was wondering if Brett Alan Smith Jnr going to jail for rape and incest, leaving Katie to raise 7 children as a single mother, would make the S'Mortons re-think their views.  Seems like the views on as many kids as possible haven't been impacted in the slightest.

Adam actually wrote in his blog about them taking a while to get pregnant that all of their respective siblings who were married around the same time were all expecting within a few months of getting married, so it was hard for them.  Probably equally difficult because they're both the oldest of 10 and were pushing 30 when they got married.  Considering Valerie is now mid-30s, they may have a relatively small quiver (which in their world is a negative, but for most is a positive).  Michaella Bates is in a similar situation - she got married later than her siblings and was definitely ready for children, but she's been married two years now and no baby yet.  It must be so heartbreaking to see your siblings having baby after baby and the one thing you wanted in your life doesn't happen for you.  We know the Bates kids can use measures to sustain a pregnancy (Erin and her clotting issue), but actually getting pregnant is up to God.  Michaella said in a recent episode of Bringing Up Bates that she's been seeing a prominent fertility specialist and so far it's unexplained, but how far they might go with testing/intervention is probably pretty limited.

I know it's awful, but there's a reddit about doctors having to explain sex and reproduction to grown men and women. Surely to God they've had the process explained, right?

Well but you see that was Satan testing them, not at all in any way a sign of problems with their beliefs/practices.  /s

Nathan and Melanie Maxwell were married for 4.5 years before she got pregnant. I did feel bad for them b/c as fundies they were naturally wanting children right from the beginning of their marriage. And then their first child was born 2 months premature and died 3 days later, which is very tragic no matter what but was especially sad after they had waited so long for a child. But they do have five kids now.

On the subject of Michaella Bates, I don't follow the Bates family, but why did they name their daughter Michael Christian? It seems sort of funny for fundies to do that and all the other girls have normal girl names. I assume Michael chose to go by Michaella at some point in her life b/c she didn't want a boy's name, but I may be wrong. When someone here mention Michael and Brandon I always have a couple seconds where I think they're talking about a gay couple, which I'm sure was not something Gil and Kelly considered. Anyway, in regards to wanting to get pregnant, Michaella is 27.5, so she probably still has a good number of fertile years ahead of her, at least.

And I really wonder just how much fundy parents tell their kids about sex and reproduction before they get married. One time Michael Pearl said something about letting his kids figure sex out on their wedding night, so did he and Debi even explain that the penis goes inside the vagina?

I also wonder why Michaella Bates isn't pregnant yet.

However, I like her and Brandon: they seem very much happy and in love! A very nice couple.

And all of the Bates' look like real, genuine people, making no efforts to hide their flaws and the fact that such a large family cannot be picture perfect. Just thinking about Zach and the fact that he was very candid about not being able to save him and Whitney's first kiss for their wedding day, and so on.

Michael was named Michal at birth. Gil and Kelly got it from the Bible but then upon further reading, did not like the person in the Bible named Michal and wanted to change it. Being the cheapskates they were, they only changed a letter because it was free. Which produced Michael. They call her Michaela as a nick name.

And Michael definitely knows what sex is. Erin made fun of her in an episode because when she was a kid she was so curious about everything she went ahead and looked up sex in the dictionary. Plus they have horses. If you grow up with horses, you usually figure it out.

I am still so curious why her middle name is Christian, though. It's not like Christian is unisex (not that I've ever heard), and they could have just named her Christine/Christina for the same meaning. So why the male middle name? I don't think they've ever addressed it; just thinking out loud here.

I've definitely seen Christian as a girls name, one branch of my family used Christian Ann as a common combination during most of the 19th century.

Interesting. I'd never heard of Christian being used as a girl's name before, but you learn something new every day.

Christian is one of those weird names that started out as a girl's name and became a boy's name (most go the opposite way). Julian is another example. Both were really common female names in the Middle Ages. I'm not sure when the switch happened!
