This thread has me cracking up. These two had to be totally traumatized.  All the ebil drinking, speedos, thong bikinis galore LOL I wish they took more videos so I could see the look on their faces!!!

They had to be locked up in their room like a bunch of cloistered nuns. They didn’t take any cruise pictures and the only video is “at the ruins”.

I know David practically writes the snark for us, but there was something about that cruise blog post that made me feel so sorry for them both. Just the weirdness of their upbringings and how strange and apart they are. 

Don't get me wrong, I know all the reasons I shouldn't feel sympathy, mostly because they are raising their kids in exactly the same way, etc etc. But they were handed such a bum deal in life, y'know? And now they are weirdos.

I agree that they're weirdos, but I think it's largely by choice at this point.  And if they wanted to go on a cruise that didn't have alcohol and partying they should have found one.  Instead, they took a "bargain" cruise, were probably hoping to convert folks (who I'm pretty sure didn't want to be bothered), and maybe didn't have such a great time as a result.

True, cheap cruises are usually the party heavy ones. If they took something high end there would still be drinking but it would be an older clientele so there wouldn't be as much partying.

Absolutely! i think they feel apart in a superior way, but they just look odd and awkward. 

I know nothing about cruising, but I think the pecan gleaner probably only saw the price tag.

I agree that PT probably just saw the price tag and thought it was a great deal.   He either didn't think or research about the party atmosphere that can exist on cruise ships or he did and just thought they could spend time converting.   I think the former is more likely because they seemed surprised at what they found.  But hey, when faced with the "sinners" what do you do?  Go into conversion mode.   So that's what they did.

I have never been on a cruise myself but did look into going on one a few years back.  If you want a certain atmosphere (party, adults only, etc) you learn which cruise lines (and at which times) offer what you are looking for.  My folks went on an Alaskan cruise years ago, they didn't want the party atmosphere, so they chose a smaller cruise ship that incidentally was a converted freighter that did "semester at sea" programs when they weren't doing cruises.    There usually is something for everybody, but of course, depending on what you want, you may have to pay more or go at off peak times.

I think the "weird fundies" like the Wallers are becoming rarer by the day. The trend used to be that you raise your kids without tv, internet, cell phones, Hollywood movies, and mainstream young adult fiction type books. The adult Duggar and Bates kids grew up very differently than the youngest ones. The littlest Bates boys love Paw Patrol. Disney isn't banned. They are exposed to social media like Instagram before they are 18. These kids could meet non fundie kids and know what they are talking about when they say something about a kids cartoon like paw patrol or mention Instagram. 

I think the fundies have realized that it's ridiculous to ban the internet but instead they seem to teach their children how to use it because if they suddenly are allowed the internet after marriage, it could turn into a free for all. 

Plus if you are a weirdo fundie that knows nothing of pop culture references and look like you stepped out of Little House on the Prairie, you won't be converting ANYONE. 

So now the fundie way is, "look how normal, stylish, and cool I am! Plus I have God on my side! Don't you want to be just like us?" 

Its too late for the Wallers. They will probably always be weirdos.

I have no proof of this but I think Josh Duggar was not the only young married fundie guy to have an internet porn problem. I think there were a lot of guys with that issue in fundie land and many decided to address the issue while the boys were still under their roof and under their control. I think that some fundie parents likely allowed their kids internet access and smart phones and checked up on their browsing and sent them to fundie retreats where one of the many topics was about accountability and the internet. 

This is all speculation based on what I know about fundies.

Fundie lite seems to be the new isolationist prairie dress fundamentalism.  Most of the the married Duggar kids seem to be going this route.

I have thought of the same thing: that Josh wasn't the only one with an internet port problem.    And some fundie parents might be smart enough to figure out that "forbidding" something will make it all the more attractive so allowing access combined with accountability might stave off any issues.

Just read about their cruise on their blog and I have to say I'm sort of impressed. Good for them for leaving the kids and celebrating on their own. The "negative influences" thing is a bit funny though - whatever happened to eat, drink, and be merry?  

And yes they are super weird/awkward - but at least they seem happy together in their weirdness. 

I had to laugh at the part where David was talking about not having to do dishes, etc. I highly doubt he does most of that to begin with.

I just realized I said "internet port problem" instead of "internet porn".  Because I work in IT and I am fighting with imaging a tablet and the network ports on these things are a PITA.

Back to PT, yes, it's nice they took some time away.  That's a good thing but next time they might want to pick somewhere where they aren't going to be pearl clutching.  Or bothering people for Jebus.  Not a way to spend your vacation.

I wondered if they chose a cruise specifically because they would be able to feel morally superior . It could add a little spark to their alone time that they are doing everything better than all the sinners around them.

Not sure. I just know all the Waller children are legal adults. I would guess she is early 20s.
