I honestly think that the Duggars( Mostly Boob and J'Chelle) are the kinds of people who say things like, "I don't see color!" "Racism is dead" and the worst, "I have a black friend, so I'm not a racist." I obviously don't know from experience, but it just seems that they would be this way. We've seen them interact with people of color in the past, but I think a lot of it has to do with the TV show.

I feel like there is a thing that some people say, in order to 'show' they are not racist. No, I am not racist. I have ONE black friend.

I always find it very funny, because I do not count my friends with skin color, or ethnicity.

And having exactly one black friend (or latina, or chinese or whatever, insert what you want here) doesn't mean they are not racist... It means they count their friends by skin color. How very not racist..

Speaking of Sunday weddings, future Mr. Neurogirl (!!!) and I found this gorgeous venue that was only affordable on a Sunday. And then we thought - let's make it a brunch wedding! Who doesn't love brunch food! We do have a lot of people who will be traveling, but our hope is that they could take off a monday instead of a friday OR leave sunday night. Though i do hope people still dance and enjoy themselves in the afternoon. Besides the fact that we are heathens taking away from church time, is there anything wrong with a Sunday wedding?

Not in my opinion. :)

I think a brunch wedding on Sunday sounds pretty fantastic to be honest. It gives local people more than enough time to get home before dark and out of towners time to either catch a late flight home or get to a hotel.

(And like you said, it's a good way to save some money. Husband and I got married in November for that reason - we like fall and it was the only month that wasn't during the more expensive wedding months.)

I had a brunch wedding last fall and it was the best! All the guests still had their evening free and hubby and I had time ti take a much needed nap before we went out for dinner. Congratulations!!!!

Where do we get the Arndt-Duggar cross over?  It has to happen at some point, right?!

Can it please be on Counting On and can I see Boob's face when Cathy shows up in those white shorts? :P

Probably trying to throw poor Nurie at Jed or Jer.

Or the JRods weren't invited to the wedding, but thought they'd drop in for a visit hoping they'd timed it right to get a last-minute invite (and guessed wrong).

Can you imagine having the JRods camping out on your property for a week... while you are in final wedding prep for your son?  Hope that 'keep sweet' muscle is strong.

A brunch wedding sounds awesome! would definitely make a practical option for far-away friends/family who could travel home afterwards (i personally would just take monday off rather than pay sunday evening flight prices lol, but that's just me).

I have a friend from college who had "brinner" at her wedding last year! Hers was my #weddinggoals overall haha. i'm not close enough to the couple to have attended, but the pictures make it look like the most beautiful wedding ever.

My daughter had an early Sunday wedding last year.   She did more lunch than brunch but it was great.  Some people traveled in on Saturday,  and left for the airport from the  venue.  Someone left to go back to the east coast on the red eye and went to work on Monday.

If I were to ever get married. The odds of that happening is slim to none I would want a Sunday early afternoon wedding. 10 years ago I went to a Sunday afternoon wedding (Mordern Orthodox Jewish) it started at 3pm and it was over by 10pm.

I had a tiny Sunday morning brunch wedding. My guests flew in on Friday and left Monday. We didn't have dancing though. (Mr. Kissed is not a dancer) but everyone enjoyed themselves.

Well this would give JRod a good week to aggressively broker a courtship deal for Nurie and/or Timothy. :wtsf:

(Can you just imagine?)

But I think the Duggars politely, sweetly, tolerate the Rods. They would never allow a courtship with that roving RV circus.

I don't think they would really disprove of Nurie when I think of it. And is Timothy really any worse than Derrik or Ben when it comes to providing for a family? I bet he would at least be really nice to his wife. I do imagine him being a very timid person though. I bet Boob would like that.

I agree. Having read that embarrassing 'Pimp My Daughter' post they made for her graduation, it looks like Nurie has been brainwashed into being quietly submissive and popping out blessings straight away, something Boob would love in a future spouse for one of his sons. Last thing he wants is Josiah or a Howler marrying someone who might actually make one of his kids question their beliefs or want to take control of their own uterus.

I'm guessing the wedding will be this weekend or next with poor Kendra knocked up by December.

Poor girl never stood a chance.

@neurogirl My wedding was on a Sunday because of affordability as well (which helped balance the fact that we chose to get married in one of the most popular wedding months!) Nothing wrong with it! We had a traditional late afternoon into evening wedding but I LOVE the brunch idea, honestly kind of wish I had done it myself. I'm now itching to run to Pinterest and and ogle some brunch wedding porn.

Which Duggars will be included in Joe and Kendra's wedding party? My guesses are:

Joy, Austin, JD, Josiah, perhaps Jinger. Kendra has lots of siblings herself so I think her little sisters and brothers could be flower girls and ring bearers.

We had an afternoon wedding and it was lovely. It was an historic house with a garden. We did the ceremony outside and the reception right after in side. It was more of a light lunch buffet with cupcakes for dessert and wine. People mingled around and we had some standing tables and seated tables scattered around. It was much less expensive to do it that way, by avoiding a seated dinner. The venue was also a municipal property rather than a private property which also helped to save on costs. We didn't do dancing because I have chronic pain (unfortunately, bc I love dancing). Everyone really enjoyed having the ceremony/reception together and in such a pretty location. We were able to go back to our hotel and have a relaxing evening without being completely exhausted, or drunk, common things I've heard from other friends.

Even for fundies Kendra just seems SO young. I just think joy got married off young for attention and ratings on her parents part (I think Joy and Austin just wanted a semblance of freedom). But I see no motive for the caldwells to send her off this quick. They don't have an outrageous amount of kids to feed and sounds like they have a little of their own notoriety. Maybe it's Kendra's "early arrival" into the world push them to get her hitched so young?

What people don't seem to understand is that being personally nice to some members of a minority group doesn't preclude supporting policies that disenfranchise them as a whole. Supporting policies that take away your "friend's" ability to get an education, obtain housing, make medical decisions, access bank loans, etc. makes you a bad friend.

It's worth remembering that even during Jim Crow, blacks and whites in the South were never totally apart (that was more characteristic of northern ethnic ghettos), and there was always a certain amount of social mixing. The problem is that these interactions were lop-sided and designed so that blacks would automatically defer to whites even in casual situations. Thus, when whites claimed that "their Negroes" didn't want civil rights, that was based from a paternalistic view that assumed that blacks only existed to do what whites wanted. If they had had real friendships and not shallow interactions, they would have realized how Jim Crow was negatively impacting their black "friends."

Joy and Austin for sure! I think JD and maybe Josiah(idk Joe seems closer to JD) I know Joe and Jinger used to be close, but now that she's gone to Texas would Kendra pick her? I hope so for Joe's sake but it would make more sense for her to pick a Duggar closer to home maybe? Her sisters for sure!
