Duggar friend Caleb Williams has been charged with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of an underage child.  Info in this post, discussion follows (content warning for some weird fanfic about why it might not be "real" abuse from a couple of posters - the FJers who looked into it debunk that weirdness fast, though)

He’s already on the list.

Hi all, this may not be exactly the right thread, but I'm looking for a discussion about sexual harassment/assault at Crown College in Powell. For context, my family was in IBLP, I grew up at Temple, and went to Crown, but have left because of, well, a lot of reasons.

While a student, I was harassed and emotionally abused by some "great" "preacher boys" and am wondering if anyone else has experienced the same thing. I was there long enough to know that a lot of stuff was covered up (and dozens of people affiliated with the church/school have been implicated), which is why I'm surprised nothing has come out yet ...

Try starting here:

I am not sure whether Crown is specifically discussed in that thread or not. (You may find the linked news series very interesting either way - it is primarily about abuse in IFB, especially FBCHammond and HAC).

Over the years, there have been many mentions of Crown in relation to the Bates family - whose threads I admit I personally do not follow.

Perhaps more members will respond.

Alan Smith has new convictions and a new maximum release date. I posted about it in the Alan thread but it's been archived.

@albireo -- Thank you very much for the update.

There was a discussion here at FJ earlier this month in this thread.  You might wish to crosspost there as well, since it's an active thread and hasn't been archived. I'm sure that many participants there will want to know about this update.

That FJ discussion was set off by what was apparently a recent court action or hearing, which had then led to vague-booking by his parents but much praising of the Lord by various S'Mortons. At that point, it wasn't clear to FJ folks that Alan would get more than a few years behind bars, but these sentences are much more severe and, IMO, well-deserved. Also, notice that the charges indicate that Alan committed these crimes over a period of years since the offenses in Colquitt County date to 2012 while the Spalding County offenses are said to have been committed in 2016.

Alan is where he should be and may he serve every nano-second of those sentences and not be released before 2048.

This makes me fucking sick

Quote

Nothing says “good Christian man” like rape and incest: Tennessee Pastor David Richards received a light sentence after being convicted of repeatedly raping his 14-year-old daughter.

In a despicable miscarriage of justice, Judge Steven Sword sentenced Pastor Richards to only 12 years in prison for repeatedly raping his 14-year-old daughter over the course of several years. In court, prosecutors argued the severity and heinous nature of the crimes deserved a minimum of 72 years in prison, but Judge Steven Sword felt otherwise.

Judge Sword, showing sympathy and empathy for the rapist, while minimizing the human suffering caused by Pastor Richards, cited the “good work” the rapist and incestuous pedophile had done in the community in an attempt to justify the light sentence.

During sentencing, Judge Sword praised Pastor Richards’ longtime ministry and the support he still receives from his congregation as mitigating factors. Judge Sword also praised Pastor Richards for leading a Bible study while incarcerated.

Revolting. No one accuses their father of that and goes public with their name for attention. I'm guessing that the only reason Amber went public with her name was to defend herself or because his congregation were already saying her name on social media. How the hell does he explain his semen on his daughter's bed?! I'm nauseous.

The prosecutor can appeal the sentence, right?! I know they can in Australia, I'm not sure about the US though. I think I only hear of the defendant appealing a sentence in the US but that might just be what makes the news.

@fransalley, it’s fine to post it here but I think it would get more traffic in a separate thread. I’ll probably wait to see what the police investigation turns up before adding him to the list.

Another day, another "Christian" unmasked as a perv

Quote

In 2016, the owner of Giovani’s pizza parlor in rural Kentucky gained national attention after he refused to stop playing Christian music over his restaurant’s speakers and placing Bible verses on its receipts. Bobby “BJ” Blackburn also happens to be the pastor of Elevate Church in Prestonsburg. Today, he’s in a whole lot of trouble.

According to local ABC affiliate WBKO, Blackburn has been charged with using an electronic device to try to get a minor to engage in sexual activities with him. Police say he messaged an underaged employee and asked her to partake in a “threesome” with another underaged employee, in addition to other sexually-charged messages.

In September of 2016, Blackburn’s restaurant became the subject of criticism for his insistence on pushing his Christian beliefs on his patrons.

“We, here at Giovanni’s of Prestonsburg are unapologetically a Christ-based business that runs and operates with Christian values and principles,” he wrote on his since-deleted Facebook page. “We wholeheartedly believe that we have been blessed the way that we have because of the goodness of God. We understand that this is not the view of every customer and/or business owner and we are not trying to push this view on anybody.”

What Christian values would those be Bobby?  You mean to say that harassing your underage employees for sex is Christ based?

I couldn't even find any clues on their website as to what exactly the church's doctrine is about . And , especially as the so called pastor is only 26 , according to this article https://www.paintsvilleherald.com/news/floyd-pastor-turns-himself-in-blackburn-charged-with-felony-child/article_4dedda90-84a3-11e9-9841-7b16f656ada9.html ,  I would wonder if he even as any credible credentials to begin with .  It sounds to me like it might some sort of McChurch , which has served to throw off any suspicion concerning the now accused restaurant owner .

Another day, another fundie turns out to be a perv

The leader and self-proclaimed apostle of La Luz del Mundo, a Mexico-based church with branches in the U.S. that claims over 1 million followers, has been charged with human trafficking and child rape, California officials announced Tuesday.

Naasón Joaquín García and a follower of the church, 24-year-old Susana Medina Oaxaca, were arrested Monday after landing at Los Angeles International Airport, California Attorney General Xavier Becerra's office said

García, 50, faces 26 felony counts that range from human trafficking and production of child pornography to rape of a minor. The charges detail allegations involving three girls and one woman between 2015 and 2018 in Los Angeles County.

The fundamentalist Christian church, whose name translates to The Light of the World, was founded in 1926 by García's grandfather. It has been the subject of child sex abuse allegations for years but authorities in Mexico have never filed criminal charges. It has more than 15,000 churches in 58 countries, according to its website. The church's followers must adhere to a strict moral code in exchange for the promise of eternal salvation.

Ex-Pastor Who Supported Texas Anti-Abortion Bill Accused Of Child Sex Abuse  A Houston-area Southern Baptist church said it has excommunicated Stephen Bratton, who is accused of repeatedly molesting a teenage relative.

Bratton, a father of seven, is currently out on $50,000 bail.

The article doesn't say if  the victim was male or female, but I'm gonna jump out on the ol' limb here and guess if the victim was female and had become pregnant he would become yet another in a looooooonnnnnnggggggg ass line of male reich to lifers who would have been all for the girl getting an abortion.

John Martin was taken into custody Friday evening and booked into the Lauderdale County Detention Center on four counts of Sexual Abuse. Martin has been a pastor at Lighthouse Baptist Church on Sweetwater Avenue for nine years. He has since resigned from his position as pastor.

The arrest came less than a week after prosecutors say he confessed to his congregation at Lighthouse Baptist Church of inappropriate behavior. Prosecutors with the Lauderdale County District Attorney's Office say Martin felt compelled to confess his sins on June 23.

Members of the congregation immediately notified One Place of the Shoals, a family justice center. That organization launched an investigation immediately. Martin was taken into custody late last week.

Prosecutors fully expect to discover more victims as the investigation unfolds. We're also being told some of the victims could be in other states.

Not surprisingly , the church in question is IFB .  https://www.joemygod.com/2019/07/anti-gay-baptist-pastor-charged-with-molesting-boys/ From their own website https://www.lbcflorence.org/about

I’m a bit surprised the images of Pastor Martin are still on the site and that all mention of him weren’t scrubbed.

Usually when the pastor is wished out to the cornfield in these fundie churches all mention of him disappears from the web sites and other materials and it’s like he never existed for the church.

It is sad that I am actually impressed that this particular IFB church actually reported the pastor to appropriate authorities instead of attempting a cover-up, forgiving him, blaming the victims, and transferring the predator to another church.

Perhaps some of them are finally learning.
