In case you needed to be convinced that greed and religion-based misbehavior is a colorblind phenomenon:

Because black Christians don't have a desire to "take back America," a lot of the stuff that happens in black churches flies under the radar, since it generally doesn't affect those outside of the black community. However, "Black Church Inc." shows how black megachurches are scamming their flocks and scamming America as a whole. Black megachurches are easy targets because they're big, flashy, and open about their crassness, but I think there are a lot of smaller, more cultish groups that completely fly under the radar, because they have no Internet presence and members keep to themselves, like the House of Jacob:

Oh my goodness.  I'm going to have to watch this later.  I used to work with a Black woman who dated a man who was into religion and fleecing the congregants.  It must have been the family business, because he was named Godson.  He was always trying to get her to quit working so he could marry and support her.  She was a work friend, so I never met him, but apparently he was all kinds of flashy and concerned with expensive appearances.  IIFC, he would travel and speak at different churches (now he reminds me of JRod, without all the kids), which somehow translated into rather a lot of money.  Thankfully they broke up; she was way too smart and decent for that kind of shadiness.

Mr Bean and I watched it. It's reprehensible how they rob their own parishioners who are by and large live below poverty line.

I'll definitely watch when I come home from work tonight. Because of my line of work, I read a lot of SEC press releases, alerts, and case studies; without fail, there's almost always something about someone getting busted for affinity fraud, and black churches sadly come up a lot (along with predominantly white churches, Arab Christian communities, Druze communities, and a few Hindu groups as well -- they are far from the only ones who do shady shit like this). It pisses me off so much when people take advantage of their own communities because they know they can gain people's confidence and trust. It's not only fraud and stealing money, but a deep betrayal.
