You've got to remember things were different back in the 40s.  My grandfather was only  25  when left a widower with a baby and 3 year old.  It's a long complicated story which is not mine to tell on an Internet forum.

The lucky thing was that since it was a private adoption, mum knew the adoptive parents names.  Since they had an extremely uncommon foreign surname it was very easy for her to find her sister.

According to Jessa at least, they had decided on Spurgeon for the first name and were having trouble with the middle name. I'm not sure there's really any reason to doubt her. Of course most of us here wouldn't have chosen Spurgeon, but we're not Z-list celebrity Calvinist fundamentalists.

Actually, I've been thinking a lot about the projection that goes on, especially re: Jessa and Ben for some reason. When you look at Ben, you might see an ignorant obnoxious kid, the sort of person you could never stand to be with, and if, like the majority of people on FJ, you're the secular liberal type, that shouldn't really come as a surprise. But when you look at Jessa and Ben and think, "Wow, she's so sick of him, that marriage is already in trouble. She thinks he's an idiotic little twerp and is so wishing she'd held out for a Jeremy lol" maybe you're projecting your own feelings and biases onto her. She's most likely coming from a very different perspective and has very different priorities, values, likes and dislikes than you do.

I'm guessing when Jessa looked at Ben and evaluated him as a marriage partner, her thought process wasn't, "Wow I'm so horny and I'm worried he's my only shot at breaking free, better marry this idiot and make the best of it." Rather, it was probably that here was a good-looking, healthy young guy with a similar family culture and background. Their religious beliefs lined up, and they had good conversations about common interests. He was confident and an independent thinker. He got along well with her family. Their goals and values were in sync. He was kind and respectful and he clearly adored her. He was willing to work hard, and she saw his potential. There was mutual attraction, and then love. Would you fall in love with Ben Seewald? Respect him, and look at him after a couple years of marriage and still think you were lucky to have him? Probably not, but you're not Jessa Duggar.

(Just as an aside, I'm sorry, but Jeremy creeps me the fuck out. If I had to choose between him and Ben Seewald, I'd choose Seewald in a heartbeat. Ben saw a beautiful woman from afar and wanted to meet her. He clearly was not intimidated or turned off by the fact that Jessa was older, more mature, confident, assertive, kind of cold and snarky. I have never gotten a weird headship-helpmeet vibe from Jessa and Ben. They seem more like true partners than Derick and Jill, who almost have a parent-child dynamic going on. Meanwhile Jeremy is one of these 'reformed sinners' who got all his partying and debauchery out of his system in college, decided it was time to settle down and become a fundamentalist Christian pastor, saw a much younger, sheltered, naive and sensitive woman and thought she would make a great wife because she was 'modest', 'meek', and 'simple'. Yikes.)

@singsingsing I mostly agree with everything you said, and I think the speculation of J&B and J&D are both a result of our own views. I still think Ben would have been a better age match for Joy & possibly a better match in general. they are both into politics, they are both into fitness, they both out going and easy going, I think they could have worked well together.  Jessa seems much older than 24 IMO, and Ben is a typical 21 year old man/boy, he's almost as much younger than Jessa as he is older than Joy. I think he has potential to be a great husband and father I just think he should have waited 5 or 10 years to marry, He & Joy could have married when she was 22 and he was 24 then had  kid a year later at  23 & 25. So much better than both of them having a kid at  20, Which Joy most likely will have if they marry early enough this year.

The fact that they called him Quincy during the pregnancy leads me to believe there was debate about the name. And she took a long time to refer to him on Instagram by his first name. I don't think she agreed to that name.

I think it's buffling that noone in the Duggar family has to share their birthday except for the twins. Normally, if you have around 30-35 people there is very high chance of at least two of them have the same birthday

I think Jessa wouldn't want to marry somebody like Jeremy. Fuck, maybe, but not marry.  She doesn't seem to want a partner that is more dominant than her. She wants to be in charge! 

As for now, I see her and Ben's relationship lasting longer than her married sibling's relationships. Or at least J&B are better off than J&D. J&A's marriage is a big, sad mess and it might be too early to say anything about J&J.

There are that many people in my father's family and I am the only one with a November birthday. That's just the way it rolls sometimes. And there are no shared birthdays to the best of my knowledge.

Any random baby essentially has a 1/365 chance of being born on any particular day, so I would say it's less likely that two people in a group of 30-35 would be born on the same day, than it is for two people to be born on different days. I've only met one other person in my entire lifetime that I know shared by my birthday. Not that I've known everyone's birthday, but I have known more than 30-35 birthdays.

Also, maybe it's just because his social media presence is a little more restrained than Derick's, but Ben seems relatively unobjectionable to me, and I get the sense that he and Jessa are enjoying their married life.

I have met/know several people (at least two others, maybe more), who share my birthday.  But I was born in September and kind of consider myself a Christmas party baby so that might be why).
