Joy saying "Hi babe" to Jeremy over Jinge's shoulder was my favourite part of the episode (well, the rest was pretty awful anyway :D). You go Joy! I really hope she does not become Jinger 2.0 and start swooning over Austin

I liked Joy this episode she was down right sassy for a Duggar. It was also strange that he was just her with Jinger for the wedding planning? MEchelle wasn't there neither was Jessa, nor Jill or Jana. At the very least I would think Jess would have been there seeing as they are besties and all.

So, maybe this has been answered before, but why do they only say "expecting" and not pregnant? It annoys me and reminds me of 50's TV when they couldn't say pregnant. Forgive me if this has been asked previously.

My dear mother-in-law, who was born in 1917, always used the expression "expecting." I used to want to say to her, Expecting WHAT? A phone call? Bad weather? A credit card bill?

"Expecting" is a euphemism, and I assume the Duggars and their hangers-on use it because heaven forbid they should ever use an accurate term like "pregnant."

Similarly, we're never going to hear them use words like "vagina" or "penis". And you're never going to hear them refer to behavior they regard as sinful, such as masturbation or pornography.

It's all part of an attempt to re-make reality by speaking selectively and using nicey-nice terms.

Because if they explicitly used the term "pregnant," someone might start thinking about how a woman GETS pregnant--and what would happen then?

TLC's "twins" commercials keep getting old. This isn't the first time they've hinted at twins for a pregnant daughter, so how are we suposed to believe it? Its kind of like how every 6 months people magazine come out with a new "news" of Kate Middleton being pregnant, when she only has 2 kids...

why would they all have to go to these wedding planning things when the goal for the family is to get married. Once the marrieds are married - they don't need to follow the others like everybody else.

Jessa is just a bestie to Jinge when it suits Jessa -

Finally someone who actually listens to christian radio and has never heard of Flame

proves to me it was all TLC inspired and paid for

I just looked this up, so he is probably an actual singer/rapper. I don't listen to Christian music so I never gave him a thought.

Marcus Tyrone Gray (born September 16, 1981), known as Flame (often stylized as FLAME), is a Grammy-nominated American Christian hip hop recording artist with Clear Sight Music. He has released eight albums including: self-titled Flame, Rewind, Our World: Fallen, Our World: Redeemed, Captured, The 6th, Royal Flush, and Forward. Flame has been nominated for several Dove and Stellar Awards throughout his music career and Our World: Redeemed was nominated for a Grammy Award.

I don't think Flame is TLCs bitch. He might be paid to deal with Bin but he's got a decent resume and doubt he needs TLC as much as they might need him.

That's from his Wikipedia page.

I see we were doing the same thing at the same time.

FLAME is definitely a legit artist who does collabs with many other Christian artists, does concerts and has a significant sized fan base. He's probably attempting to expand his base but he does not work for TLC. Let's not discredit his success.

I think it's Jason.

Thank you @Carm_88

I never can tell Jason and Justin apart.  (There is a Justin, right?)

I think Jason has grown into his features now and is nice looking.

On the pregnant versus expecting thing: I think they use expecting because that's what "WE" are (expecting a baby), while pregnant can't be "we", it's only the wife that can be. And since the wife doesn't matter, only the husband does, it has to be "we" and therefore "expecting".

Now only if there was a word describing a husband getting a baby, they'd use that.

Wait wait wait. Flame is 35 years old and Ben, age 20 is over here trying to be his BFF? :pb_lol:

I mean, I once boned a guy who was 15 years older than me and I'm friends with my co-workers who are 10+ years older than me, so not judging there, but I also think that the dynamic Duggar kids tend to have with their "BFFs" who have a few years/experience on them is kind of weird -- the friendship I have with my 35-year-old co-worker is very different from the friendship I have with people who are my age, but I feel like the Duggar kids try to have this "we're totally peers" dynamic which makes them look even more sheltered and makes their older friends seem immature or like they're suffering some tagalong kid.

That's what I mean. I have friendly relationships with older people I work with too, but I also don't attempt to pretend like a good decade of life experience doesn't matter. I didn't realize Flame was in his 30's, the way the recaps read about Ben going on about him. I thought they were around the same age.

I just saw that I should have put 2 corrections into my post last night.  It's supposed to be *woman* not *wan* that is described as cooking well and in large amounts.  And I didn't clearly define that Jinger didn't know the correct pasta shapes, not the pseudo-caterer.

So when poor Joy gets married she's only going to have Hannie to help out? Maybe she'll make Si or the twins come.

I'm in my early 20s, I have friends who teenagers, I have friends who are 40. However, I've known many of them for years, and there was usually some kind of mentoring aspect somewhere in the relationship. I mean, all our experiences are different, but we use it to help each other and expand worldviews and such. Helping your younger friends with a job hunt when they're getting out of college or getting them through relationship drama is all par for the course in my circle of friends. But the fact that people in this show consider themselves besties after just a few months... I dunno, it's like they don't know what real closeness is? Maybe they do, we don't see what goes on off camera, but most of these relationships seem really shallow to me.

Oh I forgot, your best friends are your family, and you don't need any relationship outside of that. My mistake :P

I don't see age gaps in general as a potential issue to friendships. I used to babysit these "little" girls when I was in high school, and they are now in high school/college and until very recently we all still kept in touch. I wanted to be there for them in case they ever needed anything (which they definitely took advantage of) and I thought that was special. I've also been able to relate and become friends with people about 10 years older than me.

But Ben is not a typical 20 year old who can maybe relate to a 35 year old. Ben is a stunted 20 year old who can maybe relate to a preteen.

Yes, this!

Actually, thinking about it, Counting On has been really weird about presenting Duggar friendships.  There was Joy's "best friend', the older Sierra, then Ben presented as being super-friendly with Jeremy and now Flame.  I wonder why they don't show the kidults interacting with people their own ages?

It's so strange to me that eg Tabitha Paine, Jenny Hartono, that other young man etc have been living in the house, but not shown on the programme - and the old ...Kids & Counting shows did show them interacting with the Bateseses....  why does Counting On present none of the kids as having friends in their peergroup?  It's going to be weird seeing Jinger's bridesmaids, or Austin, appear out of nowhere.

I wonder what's behind it?  Other families having different standards about appearing on TV?  The Duggars not wanting to risk a spin-off show, if a friend is more tv-friendly?  Or they're risking making the Dug kidults look bad next to people their age?  Me, I'd risk all of that, to make the kidults look more normal and not weirdly socially isolated.

Its likely all contractual.  It seems the only people allowed on the show this season are people who are pimping themselves or a Duggar.  TLC is likely investigating them to make sure there are no Joshly Maddison type issues that we can find, and unless you're willing to have your history looked into for some form of gain, it may not be worth it for TLC to go to the expense just for a shot of someone eating cake.

I have to wonder if Boob doesn't have some ridiculous contract with TLC that makes it more feasible to keep the show running than to pay it out?  I just can't think of a single reason they are still on the air. It is obvious to anyone with eyes that they are spending minimum time and money on this show, the lousy promo pics, the 1/2 assed production of the show, what with all the flash backs  and absolutely no effort made  to make the Dugger's look like anything but horrible, selfish, ignorant, BORING people, who fit absolutely no where in society.  If anything Counting On makes them look worse than the Joshly scandals.
