Sorry. We're not for sale, but you can still admire us from afar :D

You don't want to own a Canadian anyway. We are surprisingly ornery when someone thinks they own us and are liable to surreptitiously teach you liberalism, and politeness.

I actually prefer the more straightforward rules in Leviticus and/or Deuteronomy. It actually says that if you need to poo, you have to take a shovel, go outside of camp, and bury it, so that Yahweh doesn't walk through the camp and step in it (they had a more physical concept of God back then). I would love to see the "literalists" do that. Of course they'll say that we don't need to anymore because of indoor plumbing, but the Bible didn't say that you only have to do that until something better comes along. They'll admit that times have changed and some rules don't apply anymore, but only with the rules that they choose arbitrarily.

There are also some pretty specific rules about what to do if you find mold in your house, and how to deal with it based on its color. Anyone who calls a contractor instead of a rabbi to look at it is technically sinning.

They'll say "we know better know", but somehow that never also applies to the homosexuality stuff.

Remember the Amish guy tearing down and burning the house because of this? I guess they knew all about mold back there and no one has ever improved. if you follow a200+ year old book exactly you are going to be an idiot.

People might not want to own you if you didn't live up to the being so damn nice stereotype. Where I live we get a lot of Canadian tourists. And in nearly four years of reservation-making for the resort I can count on one hand the number of Canadians I've talked to who were anything but totally nice and pleasant and easy to work with. The few who weren't were almost a bit reassuring. :)

We may seem nice and pleasant and non-gun-toting, but if you upset us you can be sure we will march straight home and write a strongly worded letter! So watch it!!!

Uh...*backs away slowly*

I don't want to own you, I just want to own your GLAMPER!!

(Lainey got an awesome camper to travel around in. I am trying to convince her to pick up all the FJ'ers who live within a few hours of me and we can all travel somewhere. Wine will be involved. Ohhh, what about San Antonio? We can crash the Doug church )

My initial gut sarcastic answer to the thread title was "It probably has something to do with the North American Free Trade Agreement."

But seriously FJ has me so disillusioned right now.

Can Canadians own USians?

Maybe Alaskans. I'm not sure about the contiguous 48 states.

Also, Canadians, when we talk about wanting to own you, what we really mean is that we are jealous of your country and hope that by owning one of you it will rub off on ours.

Considering the current state of American society, we'd be better off allowing you Canadians to own US! Please, we're beggin' you!

I'm waiting for USians to put ads into our local papers looking to be adopted so they too can have lower crime rates and health care. Also - hardly anybody cares about your religion up here. I have a spare bedroom.

I've had dreams of the US becoming part of Canada and having to follow Canadian laws and there being huge parties in the red states because the same-sex couples can now marry and there is nothing the GOP can do about it.

ps - Women have equal rights under out constitution as well. We didn't even have to fight and lobby for it. They just put it in. Not even an "amendment". (I don't think we have any of those)

The fundies wouldn't like it, though. The last thing they want is for our collective IQ to increase by (at least) 125 points.

In Canada? They did have to fight to be considered people under the law, hell it went all the way to London because the Canadian government wouldn't agree. Our charter wasn't functional until 1985, women fought to be recognized as people back 1929.

That being said, people from the states have advertised for spouses in Canada so they can get free health care. I remember it making the news about 7 or 8 years ago when I woman from the states was looking for a Canadian husband in BC because she couldn't afford cancer treatment in her own country. (mad at not having access to potentially life saving treatment, not the hubby hunting, I have no problem with my taxes helping out someone who comes up from the US to have their life saved.)

The fundies can suck an egg if it ever happens, and go live in Alberta. Or move to an actual theocracy and see how "wonderful" it really is.

Oh my, I thought this thread would be about racism. 'Canadian' is often used as racist slang for a black person here in the south.

      Stupid loneliness!
Kid 1 went back to college (yeah! But sad foe me, she stayed with me all summer. It was nice to start a new phase in our mother/daughter relationship)
Zero prospects on dates. (Not that I have tried online dating, scared of that but I have reached put to a new group at church, etc.
I asked a friend to go to dinner the other night so I wasn't eating alone, again. The friend had plans, all my friends always have plans. I see stuff on social media, I'm never invited. I'm single, I'm the 3rd or 5th wheel.
My one parent friend at kid 2's fall sport won't be there because their daughter made varsity (Yeah for her!!! Seriously happy for her. Sad for me for another sport I basically sit alone, did that majority of spring and summer sporting events.)
And now I'm crying as my mom told me 2 different funny stores that former teachers remembered about my twin. Both stories were about how they got a crack out of my twin's antics (my parents went to a funeral today and saw former colleagues). Teachers remember me (after all I was a twin and teachers' kid) but none would have memorable stories of me.
      I feel invisible.
Don't worry, this will pass,  it always does. I just need a pity party for a few days. I'm not in anyway going to harm myself. As lonely as I am, I have a very full life I (usually) love. I just needed to vent and cry for a moment.
If you are still reading this, thanks Fjer. 😊

Absolutely awful about the fires on Maui. In 2019, I stayed in Lahaina. I liked to sit on the sea wall, which is the only structure left now, and watch the water. People are receiving help, but many had to leave pets. Please donate to the Maui Humane Society, which is leading efforts to find, treat, and reunite pets.

Nebraska’s new football coach, who is involved in an organization called Man Up Ministries, labels certain players “Alphas” and sometimes “extreme Alphas” and the local paper has a nice piece on why people objecting to the term “alpha male” are wrong and it has a “nice ring”. 🤮🤮🤮🤮
