Verbing Nouns and Other Grammatical Tragedies

Thank you, bananacat, for explaining my own position too :) on top of the "separating" part is the "specialising" part. I'm sure "helpmeet" actually DOES mean something different than "partner" or "spouse", and the reason I don't like that term is because of the meaning involved. But for things like "purposed", the above quoted "fictionals", and "countenance", it just seems to pretentious. Just say "face"! Are you so special?

I have this irrational hatred of any movie whose title begins with a gerund (or are these just verbs with -ing endings? Either way, I hate them.)

Finding Forrester, Chasing Amy, Kissing Jessica Stein, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Inventing the Abbotts, etc. etc. EFFING ET CETERA.

MAKE IT STOP.
