Bristol Palin was fearless in facing off with a foul-mouthed heckler who started an altercation with her as she filmed her BIO network reality show at the Saddle Ranch, a restaurant and bar in West Hollywood on Thursday.

The 20-year-old Alaska native was riding a mechanical bull at the establishment, having a seemingly light-hearted time, laughing as she hung onto the ride until falling on her face.

That's when the taunts of an angry patron at the establishment could be heard, as the bald-headed man shouted a series of epithets at Bristol, such as "Did you ride Levi like that? Your mother is a whore! Your mother is a f**king devil!"

Bristol sprung up to action, rushing up in the man's face to defend her family name -- at one point, she asked him, “Is it because you're a homosexual and that's why you hate her?"

The man said, "Pretty much ... and why'd you say I'm a homosexual?"

"Because I can tell you are,†Bristol said.

The war of words continued at a tense clip until Bristol's crew members and handlers put a distance between her and the angry man.

I often see her ardent supporters accusing women who express disdain or dislike of SP as just being jealous of her great beauty. I would not argue that she isn't an attractive woman, but what exactly does that have to do with anything? When I'd read those accusations online, it was always a "WTF?" moment because of the supporter's refusal to deal with the substantive issues and real concerns about SP's. . . uh. . . deficits.

OT, but I have to share this.

I went to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and saw Margaret Cho's show. She mentioned that she had done Dancing With The Starts with Bristol, and that it was awkward because she often told jokes about Sarah.

Anyway, over the course of the show the two of them bonded, and "supposedly" (read: the statement was prefaced with supposedly to make sure Margaret couldn't get sued) Sarah Palin told Bristol she had to do DWTS, even though she didn't want to, because it was her fault that Sarah didn't get elected, because she shamed the family by getting pregnant. So if she went on DWTS, she could reacquaint the public with SP in time for next years presidential campaign.

Sure, the guy who who talked smack about Sarah Palin was pretty much obnoxious. But Bristol could have taken the high road, but we all know taking the high road is not a Palin family trait. But i bet she went to the Saddle Ranch hoping to try and act like she is an A lister. The Saddle Ranch is quite popular with some TV and film celebs. Some of these celebs are straight people who like hanging out with their gay co-workers or friends.
