You can't make a vote convey snot.
the irony of me using too few words would be kind of hilarious.

LOL! That. More likely I would be using only one word because you didn't leave any for me! <3

That's what we call the mushroom soup french onions monstrosity. I hate em, but one of the kids likes em. We are making two small dishes of both kinds of green beans this time.

Oh, i forgot we're also doing green beans. But fresh green beans sauteed with lemon. I have a horror of green bean casserole. :pb_confused: Additional, fresh green beans are one of the only veggies my SO will actually eat, so...

I like oysters and that sounds revolting. I've never tried them in stuffing because they are expensive here, so not worth it for an experiment.

My fam just gets a little plastic container full of pre-shelled oysters, so I don't know how expensive they are. Weird oyster casserole certainly isn't worth buying the good stuff.

@HerNameIsBuffy Is food photo spam allowed? I am a dirty millennial and I just LOVE taking pictures of food.... Badly, mind you, but I do it anyway. :pb_lol: I will mummy turkey this place UP.

Potatoes, rye bread, onions, stock, celery (the usual stuff) and sometimes a big glob of flour because it's not thick enough. Gag. Oh, and eggs.

I've spent my whole life in Pennsylvania on the edges of Dutch Country and had to delurk to say ew and wtf to this. Ignoring the celery (which I sadly have encountered in stuffing despite it being a clearly inedible substance made of horrific bitterness with the texture of badly matted poodle fur) who uses *rye* bread in stuffing?! And globs of flour to thicken it? Blech. Who looks at a recipe which requires globs of flour to work and thinks it sounds like a good idea? Though, it still sounds worlds better than oyster stuffing. *shudder*

Honestly, running across this thread has made me extremely glad my mom is a lazy cook who just throws traditional boxed stuffing mix in with stock and onions and calls it good. She makes fantastic northeast-style cornbread from scratch, though.

Now I will crawl away from the food discussion, since I don't cook at all and would engage in the classic tradition of picking up the Chinese take-out if Thanksgiving dinner was up to me. :my_blush:

Food porn pics sound like a lovely post on Feed Jinger. I'm just saying. I've been documenting my weird cranberry salad for a post either tonight or tomorrow.

I'm not even waiting for you to ask, I'm adding you to the Feed Jinger Blog.  Food spam isn't just allowed I'm begging for it in the announcement at the top of every page!

and green beans saluted in lemon are amazing.  I didn't realize how much I liked vegetables until I discovered the power of a little garlic or lemon and not boiling them.

Oh, gosh, I guess I'd better start thinking about a write-up. :pb_lol:

We eat a lot of frozen steamable veg because they go on sale a lot and they usually hold up pretty well, but a go-to is green beans or asparagus sauteed with butter and garlic salt. Especially since I recently got a new bottle of garlic salt from Target and I swear it is the STRONGEST garlic salt I have ever encountered. Like, whatever factory they get this from has made a contract with the garlic god. It makes for great guacamole, too!

ETA: I kind of wanted to make brussels sprouts for tomorrow, but I'm the only person who will eat them. :pb_cry:

I don't always roast turkey,  but when I do it's slathered in olive oil and every green herb in my cupboard. Then I either bag it in the oven or do it breastfeeding down in the roaster oven.

Is the lemon juice saluting, or is it the beans? :P

I would love to eat Brussels sprouts with you - and I would worship this God of garlic if whom you speak.

We usually have some sort of food mishap on Thanksgiving. There was the year my mom found a recipe for pumpkin pie that involved mixing the filling in a blender. She put me in charge, and somehow I unscrewed the blender base while removing it, and pie filling poured out of the bottom, all over the floor, counter, and me. No pumpkin pie that year, but I smelled like pumpkin spice for quite some time!

There was the year my dad decided to play with his new toy and smoked the turkey. He seriously miscalculated how long the process would take, and we were done with dessert before the turkey was finished. He brings this beautiful, smoked 30 pound bird to the table, and got very upset that all we could do was groan and say no more food! Made great sandwiches the next day though!

One year he grabbed the roasting rack to bring the turkey to the counter to carve. However, it got stuck to the pan below, and he was halfwau across the kitchen before it gave way and fell to the floor. Pan grease everywhere! My enterprising sister tied dishrags to the little kids' feet and organized a kitchen skating party. Fun times!

My favorite was the great chestnut debacle. My dad made chestnut stuffing that year, so he put the chestnuts in the oven to roast. We hear this high pitched whine coming from the oven, so concerned, he opens the oven door to check. The whine gets louder and louder as he's staring at these chestnuts, then a large pop, and chestnut one goes flying across the kitchen followed by most of the rest. It was like 4th of July! We were trying to duck and cover while hysterically laughing. We couldn't figure out how to stop the attack! Chestnuts were everywhere, and we were still scraping bits of them off the underside of the cabinets years later. Turns out, he forgot to score them before sticking them in the oven.

This year is apparently the year of apple everything, which is kind of boring as far as mishaps. Tasty though!

Now I am curious if @OkToBeTakei breastfeeds Steve.

I love how this went from a weird discussion about user names to breastfeeding a turkey.

Vegan mushroom gravy? I'm going to insist that you Feed Jinger this because I need to know more about this.

I'm taking pictures for you! It will probably be this weekend before I can make a post about it. I also documented my complete failure when I experimented with a dessert. :laughing-jumpingpurple:

Ok, I came for the drama but now I'm here for the FOOD.

Just think-- most of us come to Thanksgiving for the food but stay (or leave!!) for the drama!

If only you could walk away from family drama as easily as closing a browser.  Love them but sometimes a little real life version of afk would be nice!

Anyone else trying to stage pics for Feed Jinger posts without getting the dirty dishes in the shot?  If I'm going to continue to post here I'm going to need a nicer kitchen.  And a nicer kitchen would be in a better house...it's the least I can do for you guys.

well, if I had money I'd upgrade my life for you all, because I'm a giver like that.  But i don't so you'll have to settie for my reality which is a kitchen had to photograph without the sink in the shot!

i love my dishwasher more than my husband but every load takes so long.  I need a microwave version of a dishwasher.

back to it...why do you let me post here when I have things to do?  If I do this again someone throw me in the closet until I'm done!

Luckily we've spent the last couple days cleaning the apartment in preparation for guests, so my kitchen is tolerably photographable for once. :pb_lol: Do your best!

What does it say when of the two breastfeeding a turkey is the least weird conversion?

If anyone is less then delightful at Buffy manor today so help me God I will bring up breastfeeding turkeys at the table.

real turkey anecdote - when I loved in Mass there were wild turkeys on the property that had no fear of humans.  Once I had to wait until they moved so I cold pull in the drive.  By the time I got to the door with arms full of groceries they were on the porch blocking me from going in.  Finally had to drop bags and purse to shoo them away so I could get in.

sweet birds, but if they were people they wouldn't qualify for Mensa.

I feel I need to qualify the dishes are from today - my kitchen was clean earlier...would stay that way if we could just stop this cooking and eating nonsense.

oh and I'm absolutely incapable of dusting a ceiling fan or wiping a cabinet without thinking of the Maxwells.  Ever.  Thanks, Steve.
