Anna and the M-kids, Part 8

Before the scandals broke, there was an episode where Josh took his kids to a music store.  Mackynzie played drums and I remember that Josh was really good with this kids.  There have been other examples too, where he has been shown to be a decent dad.  I think he likely loves his kids as much as as he is able to.  Josh is a damaged person.  He was never adequately treated for his issues as a teen and he was married off and given far to much 'power' in the structure of their cult.  As an adult he has certainly been the architect of his own destruction, so to speak.  I doubt he has gained much insight into his own selfishness and destructive attitudes.  But,  I do think that in his own twisted and ineffective way,  Josh was rebelling from the lifestyle with the websites, porn and cheating.  It certainly wasn't the best way to do it and sadly, his actions had terrible impact on his wife and children.  But he clearly was not happy in his life.  And, I can't believe that anything has substantially changed to make that part better.  Yes,  maybe he has renewed his love for Anna and the kids, and yes, maybe he has learned his lesson not to do what he did before.  But,  in terms of the life he is destined to lead,  what has changed?  He is still in the cult.  He is having to tow the line more than ever because he is completely reliant on JB for his and his families survival.  On step out of line and JB could put Josh out on the street. 

Because I have compassion for his children and to some extent for Anna,  I hope that he has some decent friends, and that he can find some fun in his life, or I fear he will make Anna and the Kids miserable and with his tendency towards deviant behavior,  who knows what extremes his unhappiness could lead him to next.

1) Sleeing during Anna's labor.
2) His reaction to Anna being pregnant with Meredith.
3) How fake his interactions with his kids.

I don't think Josh cares for Anna or their kids. He never wanted them in the first place. That has been apparent since the beginning.

I'm sure Josh didn't want kids as fast as it happened. I think his parents pushed him into marriage & it's pretty clear now in what he has done that he deffently was not ready for marriage or children at a young age.

Exactly. Josh wanted to toe the line but he didn't realize how much work kids were. Josh seemed to be the child that was above all the others and perhaps, he didn't truly have as much to do with his siblings. When he realized, just how much work kids were...yikes!

Why? She was a 20 year old, sheltered, submissive child who spent her whole life believing her station in life was to marry and pop out kids, and  was probably told that Jesus had decided Josh would be her husband, and woe unto her if she defied God/her father's will. I'm not one to defend these people, but at that point in time, I don't see Anna as anything more than an exceptionally immature and impressionable child. 

For all of the things I could happily give her shit about, I'm probably not going to knock her for her first (and only) major life decision. That girl, that 20 year old child, didn't deserve to be saddled with the baggage that came along with the Duggar name, or be treated like garbage by her horny man-child husband. 

Her decisions and comments later in life, sure, she's made some questionable and disappointing choices.

But I will not malign her for that.

How does Anna deserve this? She entered into marriage naive, not through any fault of her own, but the sheltering and brainwashing she grew up with. That she grew up and was expected to be wife and mother, maybe always dreamed of it, had been GROOMED since babyhood to be a wife. She may not be the most liberated woman out there, and her cult beliefs are deplorable, but I don't think she deserves a cheating turd with the emotional capacity of a dung beetle, nor do I feel she brought the cheating upon herself for any reason whatsoever.

clearly i don't express anger well at these two - anna makes me a bit nutty with how she handles herself

This is all she knew, as others have said, and we can only guess at how much and by what means these beliefs and lifestyle were drummed into her. I think these fundie kids all have Stockholm syndrome, it's the only way they survive.

Who knows what has ever been in Josh's heart, but I've never seen anything in Anna that would make me think she doesn't absolutely adore Josh. So I don't feel she deserves any of what's happened. 

First generation fundies know what it's like to live a regular life exposed to normal things, but these subsequent generations really don't. I know she's had siblings escape, but Anna may be too afraid of burning in hell  for all eternity to be able to leave. Imagine having hellfire preached at you all your life.
