Jinger and Jeremy: Love and Marriage

JB and Michelle couldn't have a covenant marriage.  They didn't exist as legal thing when they got married.  If Jinger and Jeremy did the covenant marriage license and ceremony, it doesn't matter unless they move back to Arkansasor to one of other two states that have it unless some more enact covenant marriage before then.

Of course they don't trust them. Fundies trust no one. ;)

If they trusted them they wouldn't have to act like human bundlings every minute two people of the opposite sex are within five feet of each other.

I think there are different definitions of covenant marriage.  Some churches have their own covenant agreement that both partners agree to, in some states it's a legal thing, for some it's just something you write out and agree to but it's not legally binding.  The essence of it seems to be you're making the promise to God above and beyond the secular/legal ties of marriage.  It's only a legal thing in three states (and of course Arkansas is one of those).  Basically you have to have pre-marital counseling and it's harder to get a divorce. But outside of those states a lot of folks still have a "covenant marriage" -- a signed agreement that they and their church recognizes as significant but which is not recognized by the courts.  It's a relatively new fundie thing as well as a non-fundie Conservative Christian thing.  It wasn't really "a thing" when JB and Michelle got married.  In those days people thought vows were actually enough.

Ah yes - of course fundies want to make divorce harder to get when you are marrying someone you have never been alone with.  What could possibly go wrong?

Ashley Madison? :P Or just Josh Duggar in general. Or Alan Smith. :P
