This satellite that's about to hit Earth...

Does anyone else find it odd that the blogs aren't freaking out about it? I was expecting something along the lines of angry God, heathens, God warriors, technology is the debil...and I haven't heard a peep from my favorite bloggers!

Maybe because it's something that's actually going to happen, and soon, so there's no forgetting or sweeping under the rug if you predict it'll end the world...and it doesn't.. :D

Oooh good theory!

I was thinking it was due to the prediction that it wasn't going to hit North America, and who cares about those people "over there" (that's a hat tip to you, Jeubs)

Of course it's going to hit the developing world! God protects the West, remember? He wouldn't let the hotbed of Calvinism get beamed by thousands of tons of steel! /sarcasm

I actually hope it hits my house, then maybe I'll get out from under an over-mortgaged, under-valued house. My homeowner's insurance covers satellite strikes right???

HELL YES. I'm 20% underwater and I've been in my house 8 years. No equity at all (shouldn't we be paid off at least a little bit by now?!). Can't sell.

Hate to disappoint those of you who are hoping to escape from mortgages (that's one of my fondest wishes, too), but the satellite is supposed to break into pieces as it approaches Earth, so it's unlikely that huge, damaging pieces will hit buildings--or people.

REFINANCE NOW! If you are UK, I don't know your rates, but we are refinancing right now(I'm in US) and getting 3.6 interest(down from 6) We are saving $250 a month and getting a 15 year when we still had 17 years left on a 30 year.) Its worth checking into. You know, in case the insurance doesn't cover satellite strikes.

You can only refinance if you aren't underwater. I bought my house for $30,000 more than it is now worth, and still owe $20,000 over what the new value is. And the sad part is, I didn't even buy it during "The Bubble". Our house was at one point worth nearly $60,000 more than it is right now.

I can beat that. I'm in Arizona, one of the "sand states" that got killed in the refi bubble. I bought at the height of the market- mid 2005. We bought for $309K. We owe $240K (so we didn't finance 100%, but put some down), and our house is now worth $128K. I owe twice what it's worth. And because we are responsible and pay our bills, carry no debt except for the damn mortgage, and make decent money (enough that our mortgage payment DTI is like 17%), there is NOTHING anyone can do for us. If we just walk away, according to a tax attorney I spoke with, we'd get hit with something like a $40K tax bill. We're in a 30 yr fixed, at 5.325%.

I'm in Ohio, our bubble was miniscule compared to the West. Our original mortgage was at $105,000, had an all-time high appraisal of just under $140k, and now our house is worth $82,000. And our property taxes are still somehow $250/month! We still owe just under $100,000, we had an FHA loan with somewhere around 3% down, I think and the closing costs got tacked onto our mortgage so really, our down payment didn't do anything. Being a homeowner sucks right now. We're in the same boat of not being able to do anything. Stuck stuck stuck.

Oh well, I should be glad I don't have 19 blessings packed into my 1000 square foot ranch, I guess.

Wow, I will shut up now. Our house was just appraised a few weeks ago and is worth 30K more than when we bought it. However, it was in shambles(I am not exaggerating) so anything we did increased the value and it still has all the old outside stuff roof/ windows /siding which we will slowly do as we can afford it.(we have lived here 13 years and mostly have done interior gutting and redo of rooms ,only painting outside)

With all respect to the muslims on the board...

I'm surprised there arent more prayers to "guide" it towards the dome of the rock so it can be destroyed, the temple can be rebuilt, and jesus can return.

      Stupid loneliness!
Kid 1 went back to college (yeah! But sad foe me, she stayed with me all summer. It was nice to start a new phase in our mother/daughter relationship)
Zero prospects on dates. (Not that I have tried online dating, scared of that but I have reached put to a new group at church, etc.
I asked a friend to go to dinner the other night so I wasn't eating alone, again. The friend had plans, all my friends always have plans. I see stuff on social media, I'm never invited. I'm single, I'm the 3rd or 5th wheel.
My one parent friend at kid 2's fall sport won't be there because their daughter made varsity (Yeah for her!!! Seriously happy for her. Sad for me for another sport I basically sit alone, did that majority of spring and summer sporting events.)
And now I'm crying as my mom told me 2 different funny stores that former teachers remembered about my twin. Both stories were about how they got a crack out of my twin's antics (my parents went to a funeral today and saw former colleagues). Teachers remember me (after all I was a twin and teachers' kid) but none would have memorable stories of me.
      I feel invisible.
Don't worry, this will pass,  it always does. I just need a pity party for a few days. I'm not in anyway going to harm myself. As lonely as I am, I have a very full life I (usually) love. I just needed to vent and cry for a moment.
If you are still reading this, thanks Fjer. 😊

Absolutely awful about the fires on Maui. In 2019, I stayed in Lahaina. I liked to sit on the sea wall, which is the only structure left now, and watch the water. People are receiving help, but many had to leave pets. Please donate to the Maui Humane Society, which is leading efforts to find, treat, and reunite pets.

Nebraska’s new football coach, who is involved in an organization called Man Up Ministries, labels certain players “Alphas” and sometimes “extreme Alphas” and the local paper has a nice piece on why people objecting to the term “alpha male” are wrong and it has a “nice ring”. 🤮🤮🤮🤮
