Plus it's helping these stay-at-home kids actually get out of the house and puts them in a place where they're more likely to meet potential marriage partners than at home.

Yes, this.  It feels a bit like fostering in Viking times, Medieval times etc, where wealthy families would "swap" kids for such reasons (and as ways to keep loyalty), but you're absolutely right, if it's good enough for other kids to stay with them, why didn't they send one of the daughters to work for another family, pre-marriage, and definitely some of those sons (though was Joe living at the Bateseses?)

The Duggars probably welcome the opportunity to take in others to spread their world view.  It's part of their 'ministry'.  However, they will always shelter their own kids from anyone else's views.  Don't want them to develop their own ideas.

I don't think the Duggar kids feel the need to do something like this. They live in a large house, they have plenty to eat, nice clothes to wear, nice electronics, plenty of visitors/interactions outside their immediate family. We might not be satisfied with the lives they lead but compared to other fundies they have a pretty cushy life. And Jana and John-David aside, they're managing to marry kids of at a somewhat decent clip. 

Total ISB but it wouldn't surprise me if they were too stuck up to go live with other families.

I don't know that we ever confirmed where Joe was living while he was at Crown, he might have been living in the dorms.

Also, the Duggars aren't the only ones who do this- I remember someone (several someones?) going to live with Nancy Campbell and "interning" at Above Rubies. You also have intrafamily situations like Suze staying with Anna and Smuggar and Faith Pennington's sister going to stay with an aunt's family.

if they and I mean Jessa before she was married actually left - she would just sit on the couch  - the others couldn't leave because who would raise the children and we know Jessa only sat /eits on the couch and if she has to work - complains about it 

maybe the duggars are considered "high" in their cult

I wouldn't be surprised if the  Elijah sleeps in the mouse infested loft they stowed Ben.  

As for Tabitha, I hope she's not on the show because she doesn't want to be filmed and not because they are trying to pretend she doesn't exist.  

The Duggar cousin is probably in the boy's room.

I'm pretty sure he was in the background in the episode where Jill and Derick came back from Central America. I remember seeing a kid sitting on the stairs of their new house who didn't really  look like a Duggar.

It was discussed here, yes. It may have been up to a year ago. It wasn't a show storyline, but it followed the girls' room redo. If you search Jonathan Hartono you'll find it. And I think Lawson might have posted a photo of the room on Instagram while he was visiting the Duggars. There have definitely been photos.

I think its a money issue, too. The Duggars can easily absorb a few more mouths to feed (especially in exchange for work). Most quiverful families are pretty hard up. It would strain their finances, and require a big socioeconomic step down for the Duggar kid.

I think John David has done the closest to the going to stay with another family of any of the Duggars.  He did a tour season driving for the Reiths.  I wonder if there were hopes of a courtship that didn't work out.

I don't think Jim Bob would let any of the women or girls go do that but he's a tad more open with the men.

I'm not good with images and wouldn't know where to find them, but there have been other shots of the giant projector in the house.  The one I recall had a sermon or church service of some kind playing in the background while the Duggarlings roamed around.  So that's exactly their doublespeak:  "We don't watch TV like heathens; we have a special mounted projector for religious and political shows....the way godly Christians do." ETA: maybe they'd also throw in a "We'll pray for you," as well.

what surprises me is that J & B and Jana are with Josh in a picture.

I know what pic you're talking about but who is Krista's mom/aunt? It's only person there other than the Duggars is Laura, Jana's friend. Where did it say that it's at Krista's family member's house? Thnx!

omg I forgot about the hideous little hair headband they put on Josie, but Jimbob if it was so overwhelming why not figure out a non-hormonal Birth control if you felt like it caused you a miscarriage? Often with celebs, the more they protest their marriage is fine, the sooner the divorce happens.  Probably not true with the Duggars, but I for one do find it believable that their marriage was strained by the events of the past year.  I also do not for one second believe they would ever divorce.  If they were really at a breaking point with their marriage, I think they would just quietly live in separate parts of the TTH, and only be together for public events. 

 

The only way I think we would ever see them divorce would be IF Michelle had some sort of realization that their lifestyle was harmful.  If she suddenly woke up and said, "this is bullshit.  Gothard is Whack".  But until we see pigs fly,  I really doubt we will ever see that happen.
