7. That they would stand up for what is right even if it means standing alone.

Because Ma and Pa Dugger would be totally supportive if one of the girls had taken herself down to the police station and pressed charges against Josh and her parents!

Or of one of the kids had publicly protested against Michelle's calls against transgenders because she was biblically 'casting stones'.

or if Jana said, you know what Mum and Dad, I've decided that I want to leave the oppressive life you have carved out for me for your own gain. Oh and I'm going to worship God not Dad from now on.

So you'd be on board with that then Michelle and Jimbob?

Oh silly me, that's where number 14 comes in. Standing up for what is right doesn't count if it goes against what their parents do/think/believe. That's called rebellion. They have to trust that they are right, even when they are wrong and full of shit!

I'm not sure what to think either. Two things stand out to me. One is that he is projecting a great deal onto Anna. He allegedly saw her walking around a lake, crying, and from this extrapolates her entire thought process. He actually has no idea why she was crying. The other is that his language and topics are quite, um, vulgar I guess is the word. He obviously likes to talk about sex and tits and anal etc. I've not read a lot on Reddit. Is this the normal operating procedure there?

Yes, it's very common and yes quite mild actually.

The whole thing reads to me like a 16 year old kid that got his hands on that brochure (parents, friends parents, etc) and decided to get some attention.   Nearly everything he said was common knowledge and the little first-hand info could have been what was told to him as observed by who actually went to the retreat.

Claiming you have 5 kids yet repeatedly calling women that have more than that "uterus cannons" is pretty juvenile.

User history is worthless as many people create "throw-away" accounts on reddit when they don't want their identity revealed.

That our boys would be glad to be boys and our girls glad to be girls.

This just is painful to me because their ideas of what is manly and feminine are just so vile.  One of their little girls wants to be a vet?  That's wrong.  One of the boys wants to be an artist?  Into the prayer closet, that's unmanly.  Those poor, poor kids, so trammeled, and the parents' ideal is to stunt their growth, put blinkers on them, and say it's god's will.  So vile.

ETA:  Not quite sure how the crumpled up timetable "proves" anything, that's ridiculously easy to either fake or grab from somewhere, print out, and crumple.  The fact that's put forward as "proof" just makes me think it's fake even more than I do anyway.

Avoiding clicks, here is the list:

Even with busy lives, you can't let it affect your prayer time with your children and God. Here is a list of 16 things we diligently pray over each of our children! We hope you find it encouraging and uplifting!

1. Their Salvation.

2. Their mate.

3. That they would fall in love with God's word.

4. That God would keep them from evil.

5. That they would have a conscience void of offense before God and man.

6. That their character would be more valuable to them tan their credentials.

7. That they would stand up for what is right even if it means standing alone.

8. That they would be kept from the love of money.

9. That they would be kept morally pure.

10. That they would have the heart of a servant.

11. That eternity would in their hearts.

12. That sin would always be distasteful to them and that they would be broken easily over sin.

13. That they would love each other.

14. That they would trust God with their parents and not allow rebellion to set in.

15. Regardless the hardship, that they may never become bitter against God.

16. That our boys would be glad to be boys and our girls glad to be girls.

14 is a mess. If their grammer is correct, it would mean ' We pray our children would trust God to handle us as parents responsibly (cause handling the Duggar parents is a tricky thing and not everyone is up for it.) As in "I trust you with the power tools"

"and not allow rebellion to set in" could be taken to mean that the children should not allow God to rebel against his assignment of handling the Duggar parents. Or that the Duggar parents should not be allowed to rebel against God.

What they presumably mean to say is this "We pray our kids will trust that God will always let us as parents know what is right for them and act upon that trust by unconditional obedience to us."

I also love eight but think this is what the kids should pray for their dad.

And don't get me started on six, which has a telling spelling mistake.

First of all, this list is an English teacher's nightmare. That JB and Michelle were invited to speak at homeschooling conferences when they can barely write or utter an intelligible sentence speaks volumes about the low standards of the "Christian homeschooling" community. Second, the list is nothing but Gothard buzzwords and catchphrases. I guess their diehard leghumpers won't have a problem with that, since they're probably ATI or at the very least Gothard-curious, but any semi-mainstream person who still defends the Duggars should know what vile practices and beliefs their supporting. To quote the late, lamented show The Soup, "Think about what you're clapping for."

Regarding the prayer list: did they pray this over Joshley? If so, it didn't work. Maybe it's a prayer they came up with to prevent another Joshley incident. 16 is just sad. They didn't ask for their kids to be safe and happy.

I humbly offer my translation of their prayer:

We pray...

1. That our children will remain in the cult we have raised them in.

2. That our children will marry a daddy-approved Ken/Barbie doll who will look good on TV and  keep them in the cult.

3. That they will unquestioningly accept the twisted religious teachings we have foisted upon them since childhood.

4. That their moral compass will be guided by the fear of getting caught, not by personal accountability or regard for others.

5. See above.

6. That they can spout off the right Gothardite buzzwords about "character" even if they're barely literate/numerate because we don't value their education.

7. That they will endorse religious extremists for office and align themselves with known hate groups.

8. HAHAHAAHHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHA

9. That they will be brought up to think of their own sexuality as dirty and forbidden while we gloatingly dry hump and make out in front of them, and allow their sexual predator of a brother to continue to live with them.

10. That they will be brainwashed and broken-down enough to spend their adolescence and adult lives raising their own siblings while we spend our days rutting and/or spouting hatred of LGBT people.

11. I don't know what the fuck this means.

12. That they don't squeal too much to Child Services about getting whipped with plumbing line for normal childhood behavior.

13. That they pretend to tolerate each other for the reality show we whored them out to.

14. No translation needed.

15. That they shut up and plaster a smile on their faces despite the abuse and neglect we subject them to in the name of money, fame, and religious extremism.

16. Don't even think about being gay or transgender.

I thought the guy on Reddit sounded very believable, but who knows.  He didn't make any outrageous claims.  He either reads here to has heard all the gossip about DPIAT in the homeschooling conferences he talked about.  I found it interesting that he said twice that Josh was known to have molested 8 girls.  Not sure if he was misinformed or heard something else at a conference.

And here I offer the "VelociRapture Prayers for Velocibaby" version:

Even with busy lives, you shouldn't let anyone make you feel pressured to pray for your spawn if you don't feel comfortable doing so. But here is a list of 16 things I wish for my daughter's future anyways. Just because.

1. Her health. May she not be a whiny brat (like her mother) if she comes down with Mono in the 8th grade.

2. Her happiness. So long as what brings her happiness is completely legal.

3. That she would fall in love with whomever she chooses, if she wants to be romantically attached to anyone at all. Aka. May she be a strong independent woman who don't need no other person to fulfill her.

4. That her father and I will keep her from evil. And by evil, I mean cheering for the New England Patriots.

5. That she has a conscience and the ability to ignore it when necessary.

6. That she has an upstanding character and the education necessary to do whatever she sets her mind to. Momma doesn't intend to raise a fool!

7. That she will actually stand up for what's right, regardless of how the Duggars define the word "right."

8. That she understands the importance of a dollar and that money can't buy you happiness - but it can get you a rescue dog for a nominal fee and that's really just about the same thing.

9. That she develops a sense of humor and healthy coping skills despite the fact that she will be utterly corrupted by ourselves and our families.

10. That she follows her heart and pursues life with passion. Especially if that passion causes her to buy a home in Hawaii with enough room for her father and I to visit.

11. That she not brand herself with tattoos until she is of legal age and understands what "lasts forever unless you pay a ton of money for laser removal and it really hurts," means. And she also has a firm grasp on Grammar and Spelling.

12. That she knows some sins - like hiding chocolate in weird places so you don't have to share - are not only ok, but highly encouraged. And that she shouldn't judge anyone, which may or may not include her mother, for doing so.

13. That she loves and respects others as she would love and respect herself. Unless the other person is an asshole. Then I hope she breathes fire putting them in their place.

14. That she grows to trust her parents and understand that we don't mean to screw her up for life - it just kind of happens along the way.

15. Regardless of hardships she may face, may she always remain determined and focused on the future. And may she never call a Psychic hotline because I'm pretty sure those are a scam.

16. That she will be glad to be a girl or a boy or both or neither or any combination of the above. And that it's no one else's damn business. And that she knows her mommy will end anyone who tells her orherwise.

My baby has only been gestating for 25 weeks and I'm pretty sure I'm already a better parent than Boob or J'Chelle. Winning! :pb_lol:

Duggars posted a video of Josiah taking off and landing the plane...apparently he's going for his pilot's license too.

I couldn't help but laugh at the video title. "My First Solo". When I first saw the title, I didn't see who wrote the post and I assumed it was porn. :P

Excellent list. VelociRapture!

Normal stuff the Duggars' list is missing:

• that our children grow up to be productive members of society, that they are not afraid of hard work, and understand nothing will be handed to them.

• that our children are kind, considerate and polite. That they are willing to help others with no thought of reward here or in heaven.

i could come up with other ideas but these are my main ones. Any other ideas?

Number Four is, without doubt, the most important thing listed. :pb_lol:

@VelociRapture, you wouldn't mind parenting some of my friends would you? I know too many female friends that are like this. They need constant validation.

@VelociRapture #4 is SO important...My kids would be disowned if they became Pats fans. Good news...they aren't. They're pretty firmly Broncos/Colts fans (we lived in SW Indiana, so they can't shake the Colts thing).

@VelociRapture I am a fan of number 12, unfortunately my girls have discovered my stash as they grew up.

Be prepared for a teenager to burst through the front door after school demanding chocolate, pain killers and feminine hygiene products in that order.

@VelociRapture Your list is a good one, but #4 needs a little work. In addition to the Pats, children should also be discouraged from becoming Green Bay Packers fans. ;)

My sister - who I like to jokingly call Satan's Daughter - is, unfortunately, a Pats fan. The temptation to turn to the Dark Side will be very real for my poor baby (especially if the Jets keep sucking at life.) :pb_lol:

Fingers crossed that my husband is home alone with her the first time this happens. He'd laugh so hard. And then he'd be a champ and appease her with the requested items. Lol!

I'd be happy to. As long as you're cool with my liberal use of the timeout step and my tendency to make fake crying noises when they come sobbing to me about their problems.

True story - I've done the fake crying many times to my almost 8 month old nephew. It usually surprises him so much that he stops for a few seconds and just stares at me like I have three heads.

... I'm a mean, mean Auntie. Lol!

@VelociRapture, I support your fake crying. Fake whining can also be powerful, especially if your child is elementary school aged. It's not attractive for a seven year old but really awful for a thirty-something!
