Daniel Staddon and Kathryn Neely: the most convoluted courtship story ever

Haha, yes! There of plenty of Neely courtships and weddings to come! Does anyone else feel like there could be another Neely/Staddon relationship with how many girls the Neely's have and how many boys the Staddon's have?

Ugh, I always find those pictures so freaking creepy. It just reminds me of those high school parties where everyone's furiously making out to Ignition Remix.

Speaking of which...

It's the remix to conviction

Keep women stuck in the kitchen

Modest dressin' that body

Lead every man to perdition

Avoiding heathen scum

Have twenty god-fearing sons

It's a fundie wedding

So we're not gonna have any fun

Maybe not in this generation, since they pretty much know who's who and that first cousin marriages are squicky, but there may be an astronomical number of second cousins (next generation) needing spouses.  Without an up-to-date, distributed chart, and viable non-family marriage options, a good number of them could end up marrying each other.  This would be much less likely to produce bad mutations than first cousin marriage, but I could see the lines getting blurred after awhile regarding how closely related a couple actually is.

Maybe some of those overseas Gothard missions could provide marriage stock?  The marriages would probably end up more arranged than usual, but I doubt this would be much of a problem.

Some smart fundie should start an international matchmaking business that includes certifications for sinlessness (at least the deadly ones), piety, and whatever else the customers might consider important.

Only overseas girl/American Gothardite boy. I'm sure that fundies have a lot of hangups about the possibility of a Hispanic, Asian, or Black man wooing a virginal white Christian girl.

I'm sure he meant something normal, but I just can't get this picture of a guy on his fingertips and toes like they used to sneak around in the old Bugs Bunny cartoons, rotating around his wife. (With the Looney Tunes theme song going in the background)

I know, Rule 34, but man, that guy has to be venturing into some pretty weird parts of Youporn

this made me laugh out loud at work.

What's with fundie bridesmaids clinging to 2001 hair trends? All those plastic hair beads and beaded headbands. Hated those things back in the day too.

That photographers post, holy didacticism!

"I like to include surroundings when they are picturesque."

What a novel idea! Don't want to be like all those other wedding photographers taking the couples' photos in front of dumpsters and orange construction site fencing!

I think we need a chart.

We have charts. Several members keep them.

Another gem:

"it helps to have helpers around"

I think this is a Staddon attempt at humour.

They need to share with the class.

I wore a fake string of pearls woven in my updo in my sister's wedding in 2000! These fundies are so frumpy! All the dresses are blah with their t shirt cut and completely expected fundie hair.

So so I saw that some of the guests wore coral and blue. Is this normal for your guests to try and match your wedding? Because I've seen other fundies do it! How odd! You aren't in the wedding!

I know at some Mormon weddings it's common to put the wedding colors on the website so that people can look coordinated in pictures. That's what happened at the one Mormon wedding I was in.

I've never seen anyone try to do that at any other wedding. In fact, if I found out the bridesmaids were wearing the same color dress I was planning on wearing, I'd change my outfit choice.

Yes! One time I did wear a similar color to the bridesmaids and I was so embarrassed! I didn't want people to think I was pretending to be a bridesmaid or something weird like that.

I went to a friends wedding a few years back. One of my friends was not in the wedding wore the same color dress as the bridesmaids. I think she was jealous she wasn't one so that was her revenge.

Ugh me too! I accompanied my boyfriend to a wedding (I didn't know the bride OR groom) and wore a turquoise maxi dress when the bridesmaids were all wearing...turquoise maxi dresses. I felt so awkward.

I'm always afraid of this happening! But at least it wasn't white and you were't mistaken for a bride?

At my friend's wedding, a girl was wearing a white lace maxi dress. Couldn't believe it. And then I later found out she had been an unauthorized +1 that had just shown up after her date (the actual invited guest) had been specifically told they didn't have room for him to bring a date. Classy.

One of my daughters had the misfortune of being thought the maid of honor since the dress she bought for her future BIL's wedding upstaged the bridesmaids' dresses and her "date" was the best man.  I guess the people in the back hadn't gotten a good look at the real maid of honor.  After that she said the solution to the problem was to always wear a print dress to weddings.

I was once invited to a destination beach wedding in which the female wedding guests were instructed to wear white & the males were instructed to wear khaki. It was odd, and extremely annoying because I had to go out and buy an appropriate white dress (I don't usually wear white dresses or skirts because I invariably spill or sit in something)

yeah, I'm not fond of specific* instructions on attire either.  far more often than not, they want you to wear something you don't have, and then it can end up looking like everyone is in a uniform.  not my cup of tea.

around here, people have "white parties," where everyone wears all or mostly white.  my neighbor went to one last year; it was held at a casino, and other patrons kept asking her and her date if they had just gotten married.

*excluding level of formality, so people know not to wear gowns to a picnic or t-shirts to a formal venue.

I often wear print dresses to weddings for that same reason.

2 questions . Why are their websites always name  something like X loves Y  ? And why are the groomsmen wearing unfitting suits ? They are too large .

Boring fundies have no imagination so they just do what everyone else does. And they probably went to a cheap tux rental place that doesn't know how to fit them properly.

Don't forget that X is always the guy. Because it doesn't matter if the girl loves him, as long as she's properly submissive and cooks a mean tater tot casserole.

...the fuck? There is so much wrong with this shit.

Are they having sex next to each other too? I am not trying to 'go there' - they are already right there with this shit.

The fundie obsession with sex is astonishing.

This is more monkey see, monkey do, fundie style. At least one wedding each in the Serven & McDonald families featured a similar photo as have the S'Morton-Sanders.

Here's an example from the wedding of Sarah Serven & Cody Winton:

The only kissing pics at a wedding should be the just married couple.
