Oh, so Hillary speaks in sound bites, and yet you just keep repeating the same short sentences that have *nothing to do with what the interviewer is asking you*, but we're supposed to believe you're a good bet for President?

Grammarly rated political candidates on the complexity of the language they used. One guess who had the most simplistic language.

He's speaking on the level of the people who are going to vote for him.  That's why they love him so much: they feel like they finally understand a "politician" and can join in at the "grown up" table.

Honestly - and yes, I know this is overly simplistic (and yes, I do consider other characteristics of the candidate) - when I go to vote for a president, I do think, what will it be like listening to this person talk for the next four years? That was one of the characteristics I liked when I voted for Obama - he speaks and presents himself like a person who is somewhat educated. And, no, I don't mean that I like someone who speaks like they are far above everyone else, shutting them out. But, really, if you are going to be president of the US, you should be able to speak like someone who has basic education.

Trump's 3 word sentences repeated ad nauseum - and the overuse of the words deal, terrible, and horrible - DRIVE. ME. CRAZY.

How Donald Trump's Doublespeak Really Works—and Is Highly Calculated

Quote

Donald Trump’s speaking style is said to be off the cuff and spontaneous. Far from it. He’s actually using a very sophisticated doublespeak.

One of the obligations of a candidate is to commit to policy solutions. You review a public problem, decide what you will do when in office, and report in detail how you will address the problem. You make yourself accountable for your position.

Instead of doing this, Trump practices what one might call “multiple-choice communication.” Whenever he speaks on a given topic, he gives multiple options on what he might mean.

For instance, at a recent rally in Fresno, Trump stated that, despite five years of low rainfall in California, “There is no drought. They turn the water into the ocean. If I win, believe me, we’re going to start opening up the water so that you can have your farmers survive.”

Now, this is a very confusing statement. What could he mean? Go ahead and choose your answer to this multiple-choice problem. Does Trump mean that:

  1. There never was a drought (perhaps the drought was a myth?)
  2. There was a drought, but it has ended naturally.
  3. There was a drought, but somebody’s fixed it.
  4. There is no drought, because what others call a drought is simply their inability to drain the Sacramento River Delta and use its water for farming.
  5. There is drought, but as president of the United States, Trump will singlehandedly change California water policy. The fact that a huge engineering project, like draining the Sacramento River Delta, is theoretically possible, is the same as there never having been a drought in the first place.

Dear Zeus. The Republican Party is an effin' mess. Paul Ryan says yesterday that Trump's latest stunt was racist, but who cares.... Back him anyway. They are so desperate to be a united front and win that they are will gladly back a bigoted racist. Nice. You could not pay me enough money to be a Republican. I cannot see how any reasonable person would cast a vote for that Trump pig. It blows my mind Trump has so many supporters. Scary, scary stuff folks

And does every one of Trump's advisers have to be gigantic assholes? Tana Goertz, Sam Clovis, Scottie Hughes, Katrina Pierson, Kayleigh McEnany to name a few. It is like the Trump campaign employment application has one question on it. "Are you a gigantic asshole?" If you answer yes, you get the job.

I know many Bernie supporters are going to hate me, but I just have to say it. I, too, voted for Sanders in my primary, and I have followed and believed in the guy for sometime. But I have been a bit disappointed in him and SOME of his supporters over the last few weeks. I want change too, but not in the way some are going about it. I am not good with Sanders demanding change for the DNC and the process when he has been a democrat for a hot second. He knew the rules, or he should have, when he signed up to run on the Democrat ticket. You can't complain about something you signed up for. You can't complain about Superdelegates and then beg for their vote. I also don't like how Sanders has been pretty much "meh" about some of his supporter's recent violent actions. Sanders called out Trump when Trump did not call out the violence of his supporters. And Sanders should have, but he also needs to do the same thing when his supporters act out. And the booing when Hillary's name is brought up at events? Come on. Sure, it sucks to lose, but we don't need to be acting like the Trump supporters. Have some respect.

I have had a few Bernie supporters act like they had rabies when I bring up that I will vote for Hillary in the general. I am not in the mood to have King Asshat as Commander in Chief for four years, so you will have to excuse me when I don't wanna hear how crappy I am for voting for Hillary. I would take a truck load of Clintons before I would take 30 seconds of Trump. Having Trump in office only benefits Trump. He does not want to help the world. He wants to rule it. Bad, bad, bad.

I hope we on the left can all come together and work for the greater good. Having Trump in the White House would hurt us all.

So again, please excuse me. I have been in a really cranky mood

@Mecca,  I switched from supporting Bernie to supporting Hillary some time ago.  Yes, I voted for Bernie in my primary because it was an early one but if had been a later one I would have been for Hills 100%. Bernie initially won me over because he spoke to my old hippie heart, but he needed to dial down the Hillary attacks long ago.  Or better yet, never have engaged in them.  Hillary IS not the enemy!  She is pretty damn liberal (8th most liberal senator) and she is probably the most qualified candidate for president that we've ever had.  She's also had to put up with GOP/ right-wing shit thrown at her for more than 20 years.  She can deal with it.

Today I unsubscribed from Bernie's email list.  I don't mind reading his stuff from Vermont (my DD went to school in Vermont) but I don't want to hear one more word about Bernie for President or be hit up for money.  I left a comment too but it wasn't as eloquent as the diary I read last week on DailyKos.  Shorter though.

Admittedly I am just to the right of center. I have strong left leanings socially. The older I get the more I drift left. This cycle I have supported Hillary from the start. All of the Republicans made my skin crawl. I'm jaded though and don't think the Clintons aren't a bit dodgy too. They are straight up politicians. But your right I think she is very qualified and smart.

I was lucky to be able to hear her speak last fall.

I knew I really, really liked you! :)

I agree. I liked the guy and believed in what he stood for and voted for him, but his actions and the actions of many of his supporters have really turned me off. I don't want to be associated with that type of nonsense. The message and platform he started out with, which I think is important, is getting lost in all the BS.

Hillary not qualified for President? What planet are we living on? She is highly qualified and then some.....more than anyone on both tickets. And don't get me started on the crap about her wearing expensive clothes. Who effin' cares!?!? Do these moaners think Trump gets his suits at Walmart? Why not go after the men and the expensive suits they wear? And then they moan about her screaming at rallies? Um, hello. They all scream, damn it!! Makes me cranky when I see that Hillary is held to a different standard then the rest. Eff that noise. It looks rather sexist from where I am sitting.

I know this is the Trump thread, so this is kind of OT, but we don't have a Sanders thread so I just like to ask something I don't really get:

Today, Sanders sent an e-mail asking his supporters for more donations. The amount isn't really big, two dollars something I think. But still, for what? It's clear that he has no chance to get the nomination, so why fool his supporters and pretend that he has a shot? I think it's pretty shady to ask money from people who often don't have so much themselves for a candidature which is done, and has been done for quite a while now. If he hopes that Clinton will get indicted, he could at least temporarly suspend his campaign, but asking his supporters for even more cash after yesterday's massive defeat seems pretty delusional to me.

Hahaha.  I truly think he needs to hang in there as long as possible.  And (tongue in cheek) isn't his platform about taking money away from people who have it and giving it to those who don't? :-)

He doesn't have no chance.  The Clinton Foundation Money For Influence Scandal could bring her down, really, or taint her in the eyes of everyone who isn't in the Establishment tank.  If she goes down, the Dems will need another candidate.  Also, the Dems probably want to not encourage Bernie to make a third party run (see also Trump and the GOP) or they're gonna be sunk.

It will be interesting to see how the Sanders supporters defect when/if he pulls out.  My two most important political issues (free trade/immigration/jobbery and 2nd amendment) are mostly shared by Sanders and Trump, but not Clinton, so if they're not running head-to-head, the choice is very easy.  I wonder how many others are in the same boat.

Whenever Trump or his supporters say "Let's make America great again." I always want to ask what time period they are speaking of. What period of American history are they wanting to recreate?

I know, right? That is exactly what I think when I hear that nonsense. Truth be known, I think they want it back to a time where only white landowners had a say.

Fixed that for you.

And where is the proof that Trump cares so much about blue collar American workers?

Anyone remember when we had the rabid republican fundie member who kept going on about the "good old days" when things were more Christian and women and children were treated wonderfully? When pushed on when these days happened. he first brought up a time period when slavery was still legal and then went with a time where poor children were working in factories and women had no rights. It seemed he had never really stopped to think about poor people or minorities or anyone but rich white men.

I'm guessing he is probably a Trump supporter.

Oh yes. Male. Male for sure. I mean, Trump has made it clear what he thinks about women. We are pigs, right?

I am still amazed at the amount of women I see on various news stations that support Trump knowing how he has treated women in his personal relationships, business relationships, and now through this election process. There was a recent news article that highlighted how Trump pays the females in his organization less than males even though many of them are more qualified than their male co-workers and here I am watching these women swear up and down Trump believes in equality. The hell... I just don't get it.

I feel certain that Mrs. Clinton will be the next president.

And I do not understand why the he'll the email thing is taking so long?!?!? Given the circumstances, I.e., she is running for President, can't they get their act together so as not to risk leaving a big problem for everyone. Too many long lunch hours? Government bureaucracy at its finest? It is a mystery to me. I do not understand nor have I paid attention to any shenanigans with the Clinton Foundation.

Politicians are not saints at all. And so it goes.

Yeah I was coming here too to mention that der Trumpenführer doesn't like paying people or businesses for the work they do.  Makes me fucking sick.  People went out of business because this slimy snake oil salesman doesn't want to do the right thing and pay people for the work they did, and because he blacklisted people who stood up to him.

msn.com/en-us/news/politics/usa-today-exclusive-hundreds-allege-donald-trump-doesn’t-pay-his-bills/ar-AAgR9h6

Quote

Edward Friel, of the Philadelphia cabinetry company allegedly shortchanged for the casino work, hired a lawyer to sue for the money, said his son, Paul Friel. But the attorney advised him that the Trumps would drag the case out in court and legal fees would exceed what they’d recover.

The unpaid bill took a huge chunk out of the bottom line of the company that Edward ran to take care of his wife and five kids. “The worst part wasn’t dealing with the Trumps,” Paul Friel said. After standing up to Trump, Friel said the family struggled to get other casino work in Atlantic City. “There’s tons of these stories out there,” he said.

The Edward J. Friel Co. filed for bankruptcy on Oct. 5, 1989.

Says the founder's grandson: “Trump hits everybody.”

Two unrelated things:

Somebody earlier in this thread mentioned Hillary's clothing. I will just say - and I am a woman only a few years younger than she is - I LOVE her clothes, at least most of them. I have seen a couple of outfits that were an exception, but mostly, I would love most of them. I think her clothing is classy and appropriate. I especially liked the white outfit she wore during her acceptance speech.

Now, on to something else: My husband, who is a mostly-conservative (he has exceptions on a few social issues, because he at heart believes in treating people right) older white male, absolutely cannot stand Donald Trump, says Trump sounds stupid because he IS stupid, says he absolutely under no circumstances will cast a vote for Trump. So there.

So now the battles intensify. This looks like it will be a hate fest. What a mess. I turned on CNN this morning and turned it off because someone was screaming about The Donald. We have emails, foundations, non payment of workers, nasty speech, racism and on and on.

Well, time to focus on hgtv. Great new show called Vintage Flip. I do love older homes, as I am an older person. Although younger people like them to when are are restored.

Can't stand the venom.

So because apparently I like to torture myself, I watched Trump's speech at the Faith and Freedom conference. You did not miss much. He read horribly off a Teleprompter spewing lies and more horse shit. He believes in all religious freedom. Well, except if you are Muslim. You get to live in fear and not worship your religion within the U.S.

It is disturbing to see a room full of "religious" people clap and cheer for a man that stands for bigotry, racism, misogyny, hatred, greed, and narcissism. Pretty sure the Jesus they follow would not be too happy about all that.
