I always wonder: is Anna not allowed to get a divorce in the state of Arkansas because they have a covenant marraige? I see that you can get a divorce when one is unfaithful but Josh didn't actually admit to anyone in particular. The unfaithfulness could be something like watching porn, which would probably not be ruled unfaithfulness by a judge, so Anna can not get a divorce under the law of covenant marriage?

Could that be it?

They were married in Anna's home state of Florida, where there are no convenant marriages.

But I thought people can "upgrade" to a covenant marriage when living in a state where there is covenant marriage, like Arkansas?

Anna's well submerged in the Duggar Koolaid. That's why she's not getting a divorce. She totally believes in this lifestyle and everything that it means. So if that means marrying a man that she barely knows, she does it. If it means popping out baby after baby for Jesus, she does. If it means forgiving the husband who tore her life apart, she'll do it.

I had a post to this page a little while ago and it seems to have disappeared.  Maybe I didn't hit Submit, but I am pretty sure that I did.  Disappointing as I thought it was a good post.

Oh well IMO, Mackynzie looks sad.  I have seen 2 recent pics of her recently and in both her eyes look sad.  Her looks are more
Duggarish than in the past, but like all the duggar girls, she is a pretty little girl.

She is old enough to be very aware of tension and stress in her life.  I can't help but feel she is has had a hard year.  Props to Anna though, who at least makes sure that her kids look clean and well kept.  Compared to her Duggar 'aunts' in the same age range,  Mack looks better cared for, at least superficially.  Her hair is neater,  he clothes are better and she looks like someone too some time to help her look nice.  Now of course looking nice is pretty superficial and it doesn't mean that she is being given any  other options or better education than the rest of the Duggar clan.

I remember in, i think their 5 year anniversary special, she mentioned she didnt expect to be married before josh came along. Which is really sad and shows how little she values herself and probably she did jump at josh thinking she would never have another chance (even if it meant marrying someone as terrible as josh)

IF I was Anna, I would be SUPER depressed. Even though she has bathed in the koolaid and believes in his lifestyle 100%, she is most likely living life as a depressed women and I hope she has access to a real clinical psychologist and/or psych meds if she needs them. Think about it. In their world, Josh had the dream job in he political sphere. His name was dropped by IBLP members everywhere. An IBLP staff member even quit working at IBLP to go and work with Josh at FRC. Josh was "the face" of FRC and the Duggars LOVED it! To them, this gave them serious political clout. Anna got to be proud of her "powerful" husband, attend fancy parties, and hobknob with big-name republicans in DC. She was living the life she dreamed of and believed God rewarded them with.  All of this, including some show time, has been ripped away from her by Josh in a very painful manner. They have been exiled back to rural Arkansas and people are ashamed to be seen with her husband who is no longer powerful but a shame. She has to be questioning why God called her to this. I bet she is taking blame for Josh's sexual sin. She is probably a combination of embarrassed and depressed. I wouldn't be surprised if she gets anxiety in public. Also, I still believe that TLC will do a Josh redemption interview. NO way are they letting that ship sink without milking every ounce from their cash cow. TLC is only about ratings.

And she doesn't have any money and likely neither does her creepy husband. They aren't getting a divorce because they'd be homeless if she left- maybe she should leave him with the kids....Ah, who am I fooling. Josh would just dump them at the TTH for the J'Slaves to raise.

I could see someone, during the hardest most emotionally raw moments after the scandal broke, telling her that if she left she would lose her children. That either CPS will come take them or that josh would get full custody because, well they could tell her anything because she is an uneducated sheltered woman that probably has no idea what her rights are.

I don't see a redemption interview with Josh, because of the molestation scandal. I can't see Josh addressing that in any way, shape, or form, and I also can't see TLC wanting to remind viewers that the Duggars covered up molestation to get a TV show. If it was just Ashley Madison, I could see a redemption interview, but since the molestations are the real elephant in the room, it's better for TLC to just not go there.

Even if Anna is depressed, she would never be allowed to feel that way. She's been told over and over again that those feelings are of the devil and therefore not valid. I was raised in a very religious home, and I remember being told that all of those negative feelings were just the devil trying to keep me from the joy of god. It's a really dangerous ploy Christians use to stop women from feeling their real emotions. If they were to do that, they would leave the fold or (gasp) get divorces. Instead, Anna must grow closer to her headship so that those feelings will be resolved. It's the same thing with Jill being obviously terrified in CA. She can't give in to those feelings that don't result in her getting comforted by Derrick. It keeps them reliant on their headships.

Well, Mack has the advantage of only competing with three other kids for maternal attention, and she's still just a tad too young/close in age to her siblings to be a full-on sister mom, so I think that she has an easier shake at things than her aunts, and since Anna can be more hands-on, she can make sure her kids are presentable, unlike Jana, who needs to basically run a compound, and Michelle, who hasn't given a shit about her kids since Josiah or so.

Ugh.....dare I say this as I duck and cover, I'd sorta like to see a Josh interview. Just to see him look in the camera and admit to what he did publicly instead of hiding behind his little sisters and parents. I know, the thought of him profiting off of it is atrocious...

Everyone would be shamefully interested which is why it is only a matter of time before TLC does it. They are all about the ratings. It might not happen for a year or two until Joy Anna and eventually Jana are married off but it will happen one day because they are all about the ratings. They know everyone wants to see what he has to say and will eventually do it for the $$$.

TLC may be all about ratings, but the Duggars aren't going to want to revisit the molestations or discuss them in any way. Even the little bit they did talk about was minimization and denial. Josh would simply be more of the same. And how could he even talk about it without coming off like a bigger skeeze that he already is? Does anyone really think Josh is going to go on national TV and admit to molesting his then five year old sister or any of the girls? It's best for all the Duggars if Josh continues to stay out of sight and out of mind.

I agree completely that this will work best for them.  But I wonder how long they can keep this up?  If/when Anna has another baby will he just not be mentioned?  How many weddings can there be with Josh left out?

Yep - I completely agree. Their whole schtick has been to cover up flaws and come across as a perfect, godly family. They were forced to address Josh's sins for a hot minute, because it would be impossible not to. But they want definitely want to keep the whole farce going now that it's in the rearview.

Well, Josh wasn't much help when Anna was having Michael. He went to sleep while his wife laboured on the toilet. He'd just get to sleep more :P

Per wikipedia's article on covenant marriage:

Quote

A spouse desiring a divorce must also prove that one of the following is true:

  • The other spouse has committed adultery.
  • The other spouse has committed a felony.
  • The other spouse engages in substance abuse.
  • The other spouse has physically or sexually abused the spouse or a child.
  • The spouses have been living separately for a minimum amount of time specified by law (one or two years, depending on the law of the state).

So while adultery may not have been admitted to, the 4th bullet has.

(The weird thing about covenant marriages is they don't make divorce hard at all - separate leads to divorce, just not as fast as regular marriages)
