Lacking in LOOK AT ME attention

Wouldn't the better choice (AND TRIBUTE) be Charles Spurgeon Elliot Seewald?

Or skip the Elliot (although I think that was Jessa's contribution)

How many people even recognize the name "Spurgeon"?

To me, it screams my dad is a self righteous teenager who does not know his asshole from his piehole.

But aha! Doing that would mean Baby Seewald would've gotten Spurgeon as a middle name. And middle names are not as noticed as first names, which are known by your teachers, friends, co-workers, playmates, neighbors, etc. By naming the first name Spurgeon, Ben and Jessa got to rub it into other people's faces how religious they were.

Teachers, co-workers? playmates? neighbors? Bwahh- what are those in terms of the Duggar Family Cult?

I think when most people hear the name Spurgeon, what immediately comes to mind is not religious. But what do I know, I'm no fundie.

Spurgeon Elliot Seewald sounds like the name of a villain in a Charles Dickens book along the lines of Wackford Squeers (Nicholas Nickleby) and Uriah Heep (David Copperfield).

Heistheway?? Wtf, good Odin poor baby. If I were that child, soon as I reached 18 if I got out I would change my name to Delilah just to make my family squirm.

Also, Duggars should buy stock in paper/plastic plates, spoons, cups. I always wondered if they actually made soda in that machine that sits on the counter.

((If I was gonna buy a soda machine I'd get the touch screen fancy one in most BK and Wendy's. SO MANY OPTIONS!!)):kitty-cussing:

Considering how full of shit Ben is, I think they're one and the same at this point.

Though right now, I'm quite a fan of "girl, you're like a Russian doll because you're so full of yourself."

TBH the first thing that comes to mind when I hear the name Spurgeon is a fish*.

*Yes I know the fish is sturgeon, but they sound very similar.

I reckon if Spurgie went to public school the kids in 6th grade would call him Sperm Germ because pre-teens are awful.

My second favorite fundy name is Remnant Keep. For the life of me, I can't remember who the parents are.

Anyone think they will name the next son after Anthony Comstock?

As a Bioshock Infinite nerd its mostly the reason I know of this guy as they changed it to Zachary Comstock in the game, but seriously fundies hold this guy up as a huge hero because he was severely Anti-birth control, anti-abortion, and Anti-pornography (he also burned medical papers he considered inappropriate.) I watched the documentary The baby war and Birth control how did we get here and they held him high as they could.

The Sturgeon/Sprugeon mixup reminds me of the clip in the Absolutely Fabulous movie trailer where Edina is upset people are calling her a "pariah"...

Saffy: "Mom, do you know what a "pariah" is?

Edina: "Yes, it's a fish!"

"YouAreAllGoingToHell"  would make a nice fundy name.  OR "URallgoin2helll" if you  are feeling modern about it.

Sounds like names in the small African country where I was a Peace Corps. "Blessings" "Lovemore" "Lovemost" "Lovesome" etc for either sex.

Any idea on how old Franicia is? She looks a little old to continue filling Tim's quiver. Not snarking, just an observation because we all know what they say about the risks of pregnancies in older women. Granted, I know nothing about this women, so she may be healthy as a horse and may have the greatest pregnancies ever.

Of course, these women will stop at nothing to continue breeding, not even the risks associated with age.

But in Western African countries, particularly Nigeria it is custom to name children after traits you wish them to have. The president of Nigeria is Goodluck Jonathan. The names do sound a bit weird it English but remember before colonization it was done in whatever the tribal language was.

It's more of a cultural thing rather than pretentious fundies trying to out-righteous everybody.

Plus I think Blessings, Lovemore and Precious sound better than Heistheway and Spurgeon.

And at least those names are positive! I can imagine the self-esteems of Fly-fornication and No-merit were virtually non-existent.

I got you, fam. I did a little digging up and the fundies who named their baby Remnant Keep are Serene and Sam Allison. Remnant Keep Allison is the grandson of Nancy Campbell from Above Rubies. He was born on Mother's Day, according to one post on the Trim Healthy Mama FB page. One woman commented on how the kid would be treated by his peers due to his name and one woman said this in response:

"I wouldn't worry about his name...I'm pretty sure his mamma and daddy are going to teach him why they chose such a meaningful name for him. And I have a strong feeling that he'll have a Bible too. smile emoticon Serene's got this! What I wonder about is: why do some people not have the common courtesy to keep their negativity to themselves? PS I don't know if Serene likes this, but I think Remmey would be a super cute nick name."

These people need all the help they can get.

I think she is 35 as of now and Tim is 36. She married Tim in 2002 and 1999 was her first year in the U.S. Naval Academy, so I'm guessing she was 18 in her first year. I know for a fact Tim is 36, since it's in their blog.

SHE went to the Naval Academy??  Seriously? Did she then do her 4 year commitment and leave the Navy?

Remnant Keep? As a seamstress, all I can think when I hear this is fabric hoarding.

As for Heistheway, I agree, it's even worse than Spurgeon. The fact that it's a female child with that name makes it even worse. I remember growing up Roman Catholic, and from an early age the fact that the Bible was comprised mostly of male characters bothered me from a young age. I still remember early conversations with my mom about God, and asking why 'he'... At least my parents are reasonably liberal and allowed me to ask questions and choose my own path. The name Heistheway reeks of patriarchal oppression to me, but that's what these people are all about.

If they did it that way, the public wouldn't know how speshful they truly were. The big draw for naming their kids these in-your-face, noticeable names is to immediately draw attention to how Christian the family is. People heaped a lot of praise (even with the criticism) upon the Seewalds for paying tribute to Charles Spurgeon by naming their firstborn after him, even though it was a pretty ugly name.

Geez, my takeaway from these posts is God is sure self-centered and needy, wanting all that attention all the time.  Praise me, me ME!!  every time you say a word, even a baby's name or a hashtag.  All you can talk about is MEEEEE!!!!  You don't have to do anything, learn anything, contribute to society, just praise me all day and night! My favorite ways of being praised are baby count competitions and baby name wars.

I hope that doesn't sound so blasphemous, but think if you had to talk about your dad that way, you couldn't walk into the house without going, oh praise Dad oh thank you for everything you've done for me, over and over, every day, and you never actually did anything concrete (helped him mow the lawn or whatever), you just praised him and talked about him constantly and named your kid after him.  That seems their view of God.
