The Bates before they were so shiny and perfect including grifting

So I dug through the Wayback machine and finally found the old Bates blog. We have looked before and I'm not sure why we weren't able to find it. Wow, what a difference! One of the biggest things that stands out is that in the picture on top, Kelly is never holding a baby or even standing near a baby. They also bring up ATI and IBLP a lot.

Here are some of the Bates going to Romania with Gothard to try to save Gypsies. :pb_rollseyes: And there are some super awkward Zack's courtship pictures. Poor girl was clearly never really into him.

This link tells how they gave Judson that name because they want him to be a soldier for Christ. The link also tells how the older partners(that was their word for buddy) were busy now, so she, at 10, "volunteered" to bathe, dress, and care for the small children.

Here are the Bates "recipes" that make Tater Tot Casserole sound good.

Pour canned beans over bread, put a sliced hot-dog on it and sprinkle on some cheese.

Put a scoop of mashed potatoes on a slice of bologna and sprinkle on some cheese.

Zach goes to give a talk for IBLP and then Gil preaches about how rejection is conquered by realizing you have gifts.

Gil teaching at ATI's yearly conference. They don't even try to call it a "Family Conference".

Zach proposing a courtship.

Gil and Kelly drag a baby around the Grand Canyon with no hat and in only a onesie. Their poor parenting skills were discussed by Free Jinger at the time.

Carlin Josie and Katie doubt their salvation and get saved again.

They spend Valentine's day at IBLP headquarters.

Trace gets convicted of sin and is saved

They campaign for Rick Santorum.

Cheese in chicken noodle soup?! Sounds about as appetizing as waiting for your mom to finish peeing on her pregnancy test before you can go to class:

Quote

Erin entered our bedroom to say Goodbye before rushing to college. She tapped on our bathroom door, and I called out, ”Hold on just a moment; I have something to show you before you leave.” Opening the door, I waved the results…I heard a shrill of delight.

Eeeeuugggh!

Canned beans over bread? Why not rice? Beans are inexpensive and highly nutritious, but over bread? That's just nasty. Mashed potatoes and bologna? Terrible.

Those recipes sound pretty nasty.

Does anyone have the pictures of the Bates' emaciated horses? That's another thing that people who keep defending them should see.

Damnnnnmm @formergothardite. Any media outlets reporting about the bates need to be forwarded to this post. I'm reading the archives and literally am saying "dammnnnn" out loud. This is everything. Can't wait to go deep in the rabbit hole.

Just to add these archives show when Erin and Chad met and Brandon and Michaels couple of first encounters. Very intriguing on how much they changed their image.

I remember reading some recipes on their blog that were positively vomit-inducing, but fortunately can't recall the details.  It wasn't something that I'd want to remember.

I undestand why 18 years old single Alyssa had a pinterest board full of healthy recipes. She realised something wasn't right in that kitchen.

All that big hair!

Canned beans over bread: do you not have that wonderful UK staple, beans on toast, in the US? Delicious with grated cheese sprinkled on top.

You're very dedicated to the take-down of this family.

Why thank you! :big grin2: Scary, isn't it, that they can cover up evil so well, don't you think? I figured since snarking on fundies is what FJ is about, lots of folks here would love to see what the Bates were really like before they realized they needed to hide the crazy cult part of them.

I think I may actually vomit... Which isn't good cause I'm holding my teeny little nephew right now.

Uh, no. Never had it in all my 60 years. Never saw a recipe, never made it.

My family eats pinto beans and cornbread. My dad could live off of it.

+1000. That particular poster and I had a run-in where she was ready to defend, seemingly to the death, why adult fundies cannot ever be held responsible for their decisions. I characterized her as leghumperish, and this post validates that. All you did was supply information for those that don't know the truth about the Bateseses.  They will take themselves down. Uh, Free Jinger is here just for that purpose. Keep up the good work, @formergothardite.

It is amazing to me that some on this board still don't get that FJ is not a fundy fan site. And they still hang around, which would be fine if they were not confrontational to those of us who do not fawn over the Duggars/Bates. It is kinda arrogant to want to control the snark on a fundy snark board.

You don't need a recipe, toast some bread then top with Heinz Baked BeansBaked Beans.jpg or equivalent baked beans that are available in the store you go to. Hmmm beans on toast, think I will have some tonight.

Fantastic find @formergothardite, hopefully the few who defend the Bates family here are educated in just how bad they really are.

I've had some run-ins with her too. I knew she wasn't actually complimenting me. :laughing-jumpingpurple: But really, this is FJ, what does she expect to happen here?!

I had forgotten a lot of stuff about the Bates. There is one post where Erin lead a revival in the home and the smalls kids are sobbing, confessing sins and getting saved again. Kelly is also constantly gushing about ATI and IBLP and pictures from attending events are all over the blog. They have currently removed  the link to ATI and won't even mention IBLP even when describing where their son-in-law works. And it isn't like they are not longer associated with IBLP/ATI, they are, they just know that it doesn't fit the public image they are going for, so they cover it up.

All this stuff was pulled from their blog practically over night and it wasn't because they changed over night, they stayed the same, just changed how people would perceive them.

Pinto beans and cornbread are a staple of a lot of Southern homes, but I've never heard of opening a can of pork and beans, pouring it over bread, sticking a sliced hot-dog on top, and then sprinkling it with cheese. Almost all their recipes are packaged foods, probably because Alyssa has had to cook all the food for the family since she was fairly young. Even their recipe for chicken involves opening a can of chicken.

Thanks, but I will save my baked beans for a barbecue side dish. Different strokes for different folks.

If anybody posts a pic of a canned chicken, I swear I'll flip my shit. I'm sick and nauseated.

If you read the comments, Kelly gives out an address so people can mail them things. And people were mailing them stuff. They also used to have a youtube channel. It is mentioned in a couple of the comments. I don't remember ever seeing that, but I bet it was interesting.

About the horses, I think I did see some pictures of them, and Kelly, I think in the comments, tells a different story about why they got the pitiful looking yellow one. When called out about it looking so bad, she said they bought her because they like to rescue horses, but when they first got her they said she was bought to use as a prop for Lawson's Christian Cowboy movies.

Those recipes sound nasty.  Almost like the 'gross vintage recipes' that appear in some Buzzfeed (or similar) listicle.  At least it didn't involved mixing meat with Jello.

This is what I fail to understand about fundies.  For people who pride themselves on being homemakers, their skills in the kitchen are terrible.  Why all the processed food?  If you're feeding that many mouths, it is so much cheaper to use ingredients that do not involve opening a can.  Even beans.  Dried beans are a fraction of the cost of canned (that's what I mostly use) and can be soaked in crockpots overnight.  You also get much more quantity than canned beans.  (The second generation is mixed-- some show baby steps but others make chickenetti).

When I make tacos, chili, or burritos I use a variety of beans in the dishes (I typically freeze 2/3 of it).  I also stretch the recipe with veggies (frozen corn, tomatoes, onions, salsa), etc.  (Only one pound of ground turkey).  I can probably make a pot that could feed the Duggar or Bates family and do it for under $15 (or $10 if I really stretched it).

@19 cats and counting this is because you are thinking of adults cooking or helping to cook, they are thinking what children can cook to feed a huge crowd every single day three times a day.

Beans on toast yes, but not with cheese on top. Cooked cheese is my particular food hell. Barf.
