I hate that he looks happy. I don't believe people should be punished forever for misdeeds or anything. But he was never really punished/treated etc for the things that matter (cheating/molestation).  I just hate that he's out at fun family events when he's made so many suffer. We never get to see anna happy.

He looks thinner, which we figured on.  I haven't compared before after pics, but is his hair receding more? so far that's the only redeeming thing- it seems he's being punished with baldness at least.  i'd say it's unfair that he has less hair than his father, but personally I feel like losing his hair is only a drop in the bucket of punishments he deserves.

My son is losing his hair early. At 26, he looks 36. My son is not being punished for anything. The early balding genes come from my father's mother's side of the family.  It is no one's fault.  But every time you guys snark at the balding Duggars, I feel sad that I passed on early-balding genes to my son.  I can pretend it is not an issue. I can even join in the snarking.  But it is not a punishment. No.

I know when people snark at the Duggar hairline or other physical attributes, they are not thinking about the pain it may cause others who may have some of the same physical problems. But we are going too far when we talk of these physical defects as "punishment."

As for Josh not being punished, he did lose his cushy job, he has been forced back under his father's control, he has lost the respect of most people around him and his "rehab" though probably useless, was certainly painful.  I don't blame him for looking happy to be back leading what is, to him, a normal life.  He may not have been punished (or helped recognize/work on his real problems)  the way he should have been, but he did just get out of the equivalent of prison.  He is only human. Of course he looks rested and happy.

I agree that it is unfair  that Anna is suffering as much if not more as Josh has.

"Josh and Anna Duggar in TN

Posted: 09 May 2016 03:44 PM PDT

We know that thousands of you have been praying for Josh Duggar, Anna Duggar, and their four kids and that you have been eager to hear how they are doing. One of our loyal readers who attended Trace and Carlin Bates' graduation party last weekend in East Tennessee shared the following with us:

ALL the Duggars (except Jill, Derrick, Israel, Amy and Grandma) were in Tennessee. Only a few were at the party. All were at church.

I did get a chance to talk to Josh and Anna--Josh looks really good, he has dropped a LOT of weight. Josh introduced me to his family. It was obvious the kids were thrilled to have Dad back. He was in good spirits and was surprised I talked to him--they said most people had been avoiding them. I didn't grab a photo, and if I did, I wouldn't share it, as I don't want to stir the pot. But yes, he was there."

I had a junior high gym teacher who went completely bald at 21. He decided to own it and shaved his head. He was also fairly short and not super skinny (though decently athletic).  He was kind, fun, intelligent, had a sense of humor and was generally a beloved teacher. Even though he made us run the mile every week. He was the most in demand pe teacher we had.  He teased himself over the baldness a bit- but no one else ever did.  His classes really liked him.  And if you claimed period cramps he was usually lenient about the mile run too.

You see, your son probably has many other redeeming qualities. Intelligence, a sense of humor, wit, creativity, a moral compass etc.  Josh? he's got very little.  Before the scandal he had his looks (he's not totally unattractive i guess?) and his family values image.  He killed his family values image- it's been burned, drowned, chopped into pieces, jumped on and buried in manure.  He doesn't have the education, intelligence, sense of humor, wit or creativity on his side.  He basically needs to rely on his looks if he wants to keep attracting girls to cheat with.  There are girls who dig the receding hair line- and as my fil is balding and my husband will head that way soon i have to say it's far from a deal breaker for me.  But it limits his field of choices.

And yes, he was sent to an awful Jesus jail camp that is brainwashing and might be worse than prison in ways. But he's never been treated or punished in any way for cheating or molesting.  He was sent for looking at porn.  If any one has been punished for the cheating it was anna, and the girls have probably been punished for the molestation.  He never served time for the harm he's done others, not really. Yes, he lost his job. but he has a support system and is far from destitute.  And if he really couldn't handle the chaperoning he's probably now getting then he's got more of an opportunity to leave the cult and make it on his own than most of his siblings.

Is this from the Duggar newsletter, @ksgranola1, or from some other newsletter? Either way, interesting.

I find it interesting that ALL is capitalized-- like the Duggars (or whoever wrote this) is aware how opponents of Duggarville are always wondering where people are, or having to make a timeline since they post things after they've happened and such.

And the whole thing about Josh dropping weight. I don't think he's lost all that much, but I find it interesting that the person mentioned it. Like Josh must be truly redeemed because he lost weight. "Obviously" he did it for his family, while I think if you put someone in jail/rehab (whether it be regular or jesus) there's little to do BUT work out or do hard labor. I don't think Josh consciously did it for Anna or the Ms.

Thank you @quiverofdoubt @EmCatlyn

My dad's side of the family was filled with men with fringe, so I thought it was normal growing up. It made finding my dad, who was short for a man, in a crowd easier, although I'll never forget when I was about four and found the wrong bald guy! Fortunately, he was a family friend. Some bald men, like Tom Coliccio, are just plain eye catching!

I first saw the pictures of Josh from PCC through Pickles. It got me wondering: Why would anyone want to take pictures with Josh? Especially young girls?

He looks more muscular and less doughy. Since muscle weighs more than fat it's entirely possible the scale hasn't budged much, but his clothing fits better or is down a size. He doesn't look evacuated by any means, just less doughy.  Imagine how much fitter he would've been if he stuck to the regime the trainer put him on forever ago. Instead of it just being a plot line.

True. And since he's been indoctrinated to eat chickenetti and TTC, I'm sure it would be harder to switch to healthier meals. Heck, the Duggar girls haven't branched out at all and they obviously don't eat that food in large portions or they'd all be obese.

I once poured a bucket of sea water over the legs of a man who was wearing the same color bathing suit as my dad. It was very embarrasing, but when you are three years old it's a long way from your eyes to your father's face. ;)   My father's hair thinned a little, but he wasn't totally bald.   It was his brother that was bald at 21 or 22.  My son is not quite there, but heading that way.  He is tall and I assume he doesn't mind his thinning hair as much as I do. (He had a gorgeous head of hair until he was around 20, when it began to thin. My baby boy is just "aging" too fast.)

I appreciate that snarking at Josh's hair loss is not intended to suggest that all bald people are ridiculous.  But sometimes it bothers me that we spend so much time being snide about physical appearances... especially when we start treating physical imperfections as "punishment."

@quiverofdoubt. I appreciate your clarifying that you don't think baldness is always a punishment but only in the case of someone like Josh.  And I didn't mean to put you on the spot; there is a lot of snarking about physical appearance, not jus balding, on FJ.  In general, it makes me uncomfortable.  So I picked today to speak up. It wasn't just your message.

As for Josh, I think he got sent to rehab because of Ashley Madison.  The porn was just the excuse. It isn't that he watched porn or that he was unfaithful. It is that he was caught in a big public way.

While I agree that he is a disgusting human being, I  don't find it disturbing that he can laugh and have some pleasure in the company of friends and family.  Now what makes me really annoyed is the humpers who are actually going over to talk to him and acting as though all is well because he was in prayer-rehab.

When I see Anna laughing and truly happy Josh's happiness will no longer offend me. He should be grovelling at her feet. Not posing with pretty young co eds. Imagine the slap in the face that is to Anna after he so publicly humiliated her.

I dont know exactly what his "treatment" addressed or what his family is most angry about.  But his true problems and misdeeds have never been dealt with.   I'm a molestation victim myself, and my assaulter  was very close to Josh's age and a family member. He was never so much as reprimanded as far as I know. So perhaps I'm a little too vindictive against josh because of that.

Hair loss is genetic, not a punishment, I know this. But in Josh's case I bet he feels as if it's a punishment. Seeing as in their world everything is a punishment or reward from God, DNA is not a standard sotdr, and then there's the whole Solomon biblical analogy he could be making.

I never even thought about the fact about how it would affect Anna that he poses with young co-eds

she deserves the shit she is in

pose some more Josh - nothing will redeem yourself or your insane cray cray of a wife

ps- thanks for sharing deep emotional stuff :)

I'm not reading too much into his posing with the girls. I seriously doubt that he approached them. I'm sure they asked him, and what was he supposed to do?  Look downcast and ashamed? Yes, I still think he's a sleaze bag, but what could  he do in that situation? He could have said no, and rebuffed the girls, but that wouldn't have been very kind. Jerk though he be, he's between a rock and a hard place.

No one in my family has ever gone bald.  Tweezers are helpful for the ladies as they age, but I digress.  I kind of feel sorry for Josh.  He never had a time ti just act out or..whatever.

JimBob and Michelle's hair: totally snarkable.
Their children's hair: not so much.

The genetics of balding are fascinating and I'm not sure there is a straightforward pattern. My dad lost his hair very young - aged 24 he had a pitiful comb-over in his wedding photo. His dad on the other hand had a remarkably full head of hair up until his 70s when he died. My uncle at 80+ likewise retains his hair. My brother is 43 and his hair is slowly beginning to thin a little.

I have been attracted to men with long hair, short hair, or not much hair at all. It's not a deal-breaker at all or even a very big deal in terms of overall attractiveness. Joshley is unattractive for many reasons but his hair doesn't really come into it.

In regards to snarking on Joshley's appearance and how it is punishment.

Personally, I got fat, I don't think that this is a punishment, it was a result of poor nutrition, lack of exercise, and the meds that I was on.

That said, Gothardites truly believe that God rewards or punishes based on behaviour, so I took the comments about Joshley being punished as another snark at ATI, not that anyone on FJ actually believes that Joshley is being punished, just that this is possibly a view that is being taken.

As for people avoiding him, this does not surprise me, however I don't think its because of the molestation or even the cheating. Its because he got caught.

I do wonder how this will affect Josh in the fundy world. Yes, many fundies will say he has found Jesus again, so everything is all good in the Duggarville again, but they may be cautious as to how he may affect their position in the fundy world. I think that fundies that want to rise in the fundy ranks and have their children marry up, would be wary of associating with Josh. They might be fine with the Duggars in general but Josh is wearing a scarlet M. There may be worry about how it looks if they spend time with a guy who has brought so much negative attention on his family and Gothardism in general.
