Fundes should watch South Park

Last night, I was watching South Park and it was the one where the children fear they're gonna go to Hell so they turn super religious and stop going to school. Cartman sees this as an opportunity to scam the weak and creates his own fundamentalist church in which he "heals" people and cons money out of them. In the end, Jesus shows up and says the following:

God doesn't want you to be afraid of Hell or to just worship all day but to help others and live good happy lives. That's how you live for Him!

As much controversial this show is, they did make a point with that quote. So many fundies revolve their lives around God by using Him as an excuse for everything-dressing, acting, thinking, talking, etc etc, that they forget why we're put on this Earth in the first place. We all make mistakes, we're human, and if you fear so much on going to Hell and spending all your time fearing God's Wrath, you just wasted away your life. Nobody is perfect and God is aware of that. So what if you dance or attend a secular school? So what if you decide to drink alcohol socially or have a boyfriend whom you snuggle and kiss with? Does that mean you're a bad person? NO! Enjoy life, that's why you're put on this world in the first place.

At the same time, I feel like this is EXACTLY what Vision Forum and IBLP are doing to their "Customers." They're aware most of them are weak and scared so they use that to throw scare tactics at them and scam them from thousands of dollars. Seriously, I think a typical ATI family spends way more money than a normal Christian family does. Look at the ATI enrollment form and homeschool conference form--it's gonna cost you well over $1,000. But to these families, they feel like they're being good Christians and pleasing God by what VF and ATI throws at them as the "truth."

Someone needs to show this episode to the Maxwells who desperately needs laughter in their lives.

A little bit off subject: I had watched a few "South Park" episodes, and found them to be hilariously, witty observations on American life. When dating my husband, I asked him if he watched it, and he huffed and puffed, and said no, because he remembered one where they were trying to get a pig to mount an elephant, and thought it was offensive. I howled, and said "Oh, yeah, 'Pig and elephant DNA do not splice,'" that was a great one! Years later, it's not uncommon for me to find him and my 10 year old watching it together! (The one on "The Economy" had my husband in stitches.) Turns out, he had never watched it at all when I first mentioned it. He was just parroting a Bible Banging ex GF's, "holier than thou" opinion of the show.

*And, yeah, my 10 year old is smart enough to know that the stuff he sees on "South Park" isn't necessarily for repeating among his peers*

I refused to watch South Park for years because of what other people had told me about it. When my son talked me into viewing it with him, I assumed that I would hate it. It was brillant. I couldn't get over how witty and clever the show was.

I watch it with my 13 year old daughter. We love it. There are many episodes where we discuss the issues brought up by in the show.

I really think this thread should be titled, "Everyone should watch South Park". Kthxbai

You'd have to pay me a lot of money to watch it. :angry-screaming:

There are a ton of inside jokes on SouthPark about Denver and Colorado in general - I think there's a couple of you who also live here, you know what I mean!

I've always loved Southpark because it is witty and usually has some kind of proufound lesson to be learned in the middle of all the "profanity". I can't wait until next year when the national tour of "The Book of Mormon" starts here in Denver.

Until I watched the show, I thought the exact same thing. Give a couple of episodes a chance, you'd be surprised.

Any episode with Butters makes me happy. :D He is the sweetest, most child like of all the characters. And my husband's hair would look like Kyle's if he let it grow out.

Have you seen it before? If you haven't, you should check it out to see what you're missing. Yeah, it's vulgar and offensive, but it's also hilarious and smart. I'm a big fan.

South Park is brilliant social commentary. Luv it. It has some vulgarity, but only where necessary to drive the point home.

Yes, I've seen it. My kids watch it and my older grandson does too. I can't watch the Simpsons either.

To each his own. It's not for everyone, I guess. ;)

I have a friend who feels the same way. She firmly believes that if it's a cartoon, it should be for kids, not adults. She hates stuff like South Park, The Simpsons, Beavis & Butthead, etc.

As for me? Bring it on! Although I rather watch Daria than Beavis & Butthead.

(Oooh, wait a sec, I have a chance to go smilie-crazy here!)

There's anime that would blow her mind. I love Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion, but I would never let a child watch it.

I'll watch South Park, but I have a limited tolerance of toilet humor that South Park is known for. Beyond that, it's very clever.

I used to watch the Daria re-runs on The-N, but they're gone now and I'm sad. I loved Daria and I was too young to watch when it was on MTV.

Daria was brilliant! It helped me survive high school knowing that other sarcastic bookworms existed :-) Especially having a "Quinn" for a sister!

      Stupid loneliness!
Kid 1 went back to college (yeah! But sad foe me, she stayed with me all summer. It was nice to start a new phase in our mother/daughter relationship)
Zero prospects on dates. (Not that I have tried online dating, scared of that but I have reached put to a new group at church, etc.
I asked a friend to go to dinner the other night so I wasn't eating alone, again. The friend had plans, all my friends always have plans. I see stuff on social media, I'm never invited. I'm single, I'm the 3rd or 5th wheel.
My one parent friend at kid 2's fall sport won't be there because their daughter made varsity (Yeah for her!!! Seriously happy for her. Sad for me for another sport I basically sit alone, did that majority of spring and summer sporting events.)
And now I'm crying as my mom told me 2 different funny stores that former teachers remembered about my twin. Both stories were about how they got a crack out of my twin's antics (my parents went to a funeral today and saw former colleagues). Teachers remember me (after all I was a twin and teachers' kid) but none would have memorable stories of me.
      I feel invisible.
Don't worry, this will pass,  it always does. I just need a pity party for a few days. I'm not in anyway going to harm myself. As lonely as I am, I have a very full life I (usually) love. I just needed to vent and cry for a moment.
If you are still reading this, thanks Fjer. 😊

Absolutely awful about the fires on Maui. In 2019, I stayed in Lahaina. I liked to sit on the sea wall, which is the only structure left now, and watch the water. People are receiving help, but many had to leave pets. Please donate to the Maui Humane Society, which is leading efforts to find, treat, and reunite pets.

Nebraska’s new football coach, who is involved in an organization called Man Up Ministries, labels certain players “Alphas” and sometimes “extreme Alphas” and the local paper has a nice piece on why people objecting to the term “alpha male” are wrong and it has a “nice ring”. 🤮🤮🤮🤮
