Exactly my thought. 8-) I could not believe the high prices. I wonder who pays $61 for a sleeveless crew neck top. Or $21 for a thong? And made in Italy. Maybe that's why they are so expensive.

Since the fabric is not identified as cotton, silk or linen, I am assuming that it is made of some poly blend.

I know someone who used to own a small lingerie company whose products were made in France and Italy. Apparently the EU has very strict rules for the conditions under which garment manufacturers must operate. The woman I know was proud of the fact that her seamstresses were paid a living wage under great working conditions, but noted that they earned more than she did as the owner of the company. Her company made $80 underpants and $210 bras, and that was as low a price point as she could hit without compromising on composition, quality or ethics.

I think a lot of us underestimate how much clothing "should" cost, because so much of what is for sale has been subsidized by very cheap labor.

Yes... and no! Actually in many cases the rise in salary would not be that much on the price of the clothes, especially for regular (non-underwear) clothes. IF you read some research, you can see that giving a decent wage to hired latino workers in farm would raise the price of tomatoes by 2 cents/lb.

Many of the expensive clothes are still made by underpaid labor, they just keep higher margins (for design, retail, etc). But yeah the consumption of clothes per person has just exploded since the 70s, it is just crazy.

I think what's weirder is the modest tops being advertised with the models in their underwear bottoms.... mmmkay! :D
