Probably not, most QF proponents believe that the only person to whom a woman answers with higher authority than her father/husband is god, so the only time you can refuse to submit is if you believe he will cause you to go against god. See Preparing to Be His Helpmeet, Pearl encourages women whose husbands want to begin using birth control to show their husbands that they WANT to submit to him, but on that issue cannot because it goes against god, and show him scriptures to convince him/wear him down on the matter.

As is always the case when I read about Pearl's "encouragement," I am thinking to myself "that sounds like a SUPER FUN MARRIAGE."  :2wankers:

Fundie women generally believe that only a godly man can be a decent man, so if they treat her even approaching well, they have to praise him for his ability to resist the temptation to act according to their "nature".

I absolutely agree. I'd expand this to say that Fundies generally believe that only a godly HUMAN can be a decent HUMAN. They refuse to believe that others can be ethical, caring, compassionate, etc. without a fundy belief in Jesus.

Which is why I personally murdered two people and committed grand theft auto on my way to work this morning. After strangling the cat during breakfast. And cheating on my husband (of course).

Oh no way I had the same morning! I also stole some lunch from the mouths of the homeless, because cheating on my husband is just like really hungry work you know?

I couldn't steal from the homeless this morning because I was busy forging checks and watching porn. I'm not very good at multitasking.

Pretty sure that's because only the Lord can bless someone with the ability to multitask.

I was looking at her blog and Sierra said of her husband:

Quote

I've always joked that he's the ice cold water that God used to pour on my firecracker attitude.

Does that bother anyone else? Like, your husband shouldn't be stifling or killing your personality or your attitude? Like the people you love should support and bolster you and help you grow, not put the person you are out.

Well, after reading all this, I can definitely tell you that it's all Eve's fault and that darned piece of fruit. :irony:

Yeah, they kind of do. It's incredibly sad, but the undercurrent among fundie women's attitude toward men is overwhelmingly one of fear. You need an accountability partner/chaperone to provide protection. You want a man who is slow to anger (which they believe is hard to find) so he doesn't flip on you one day. Men can't control themselves so we have to do it for them. If you don't dress or act appropriately and a man takes advantage of or harms you, it may be your fault because he can't be expected to act appropriately.

And, really, I don't blame these women for being so afraid of men. They are told it is their god-given duty to bind themselves to a man they can never really get to know privately, but they are also told that men are implicitly and scripturally allowed to control all aspects of their wives' lives. They are told men can't control themselves, men are more aggressive, Satan tempts men specifcally to harm women. And if you get married and your husband beats you, you can't get divorced, you just have to hope you can be a godly example to lead him back to Christ.

How insulting to men!!

It's a little frightening, how fast we come up with ways to sin!

I'm glad Mark gets them gifts of his own accord, but Sierra shouldn't act like he's the only man in the world to do this for his partner. Maybe next time, it would be a good idea for Mark to give Sierra a spa pass or something and then he could watch the kids while she's out.

Side note: God is really invested in Sierra's blog, huh? Reminds me of when actors thank God for their Oscars or awards.

Oh if Mark were to "babysit the kids" we'd never hear an end to it. He would be the most GODLY MAN ON EARTH

Ya know, as I read this, Mr. Tribe is in the kitchen doing the dishes.  He cooked dinner as well.  Plus, Mr. Tribe gets ticked off when he hears men referring to 'babysitting' their own children.  As he puts it "it's PARENTING, not babysitting you idiot."

I married well.

Whoa.  Has anyone ever speculated that Sierra might have Bipolar and not be taking meds?  She seems to be manic or hypomanic. (Btw, I don't mean this as a slight...I have Bipolar myself, and Sierra's brand of crazy seems pretty familiar to me--endless projects, out of control laugh, etc)

The blog post with all that running.    Exhausting.  It reads like the ramblings of someone in the midst of a mental health crisis.

No, most find it's best not to speculate on medical conditions based on what we see on t.v./in blogs/etc.

Spunky, people I know with bipolar have manic highs and low lows so it's very obvious.

My relative/ One day he's excitedly telling me about his plans to travel around South America & goes out clubbing the next he won't leave his room & stays there for a week. It's not someone who's personality is eager beaver & has lots of energy.

I wonder why so many coffee cups as a gift? It's a bit much. Just like Sierra. Oh. I get it. :tw_blush:

Fair enough.  I do hope for her sake, though, that she takes a bit of a break.

I hope her husband allows her some alone time, for sure. Because we all need that, I think. And even more so when you have a bunch of kids. I just have 1 and even though I love him like crazy, I sometimes need to get away.

I wondered the same thing. It's like her husband couldn't think of more things she likes, so he just got her a bunch of coffee cups that don't even match.

Mark: "Hm, let's see. She likes God, so I'll get her some inspirational crap. Oh, and coffee. She drinks a lot of coffee. I know, I'll get her a coffee cup. Now what else does she like? What does she like... Huh. Can't think of anything else. Whatever. I'll just buy MORE coffee cups."

Did he take the kids shopping with him? Maybe they picked out the gifts.
