I will give this organization kudos when they take steps to prevent this sort of thing happening in the first place, instead of just doing their duty to report what took place.

This guy is disgusting. I am glad he was caught and I hope he rots but it should not have happened in the first place.

Yes, he is. But , sadly, most religious organisations look for the best in people, and are not naturally suspicious.I am just glad that they dealt with it properly, and did not attempt to cover up. And I am also sure that they will have much more stringent checks in the aftermath,as they have been made aware of the dangers of volunteers.

This is absolutely horrifying to me. I'm glad that this man's colleagues were confident enough to take action.  My heart aches for those children, though. The abuse itself and the damage to their ability to trust are devasting.  Then, to add the missionary angle, just adds to the spiritual damage for them.  I hope they are getting good counseling and treatment, but in Kenya, I'm not so sure the resources are there.

I'm hoping that the NGO is at least attempting to get them counselling. They seem to have understood the ramifications of such abuse.

He shows no remorse beyond what his own actions have brought upon himself or even any little sign that he understands the harm he has brought to these children. If that wasn't bad enough, there's no personal accountability for his choices and actions. No, he'd rather blame a "demon" that doesn't exist beyond in his own mind.

I think the judge probably went easier on him because he's a young man and rehabilitation is possible in a few cases dealing with people in their twenties. Perhaps the judge also thinks this lad may be mentally ill with his 'demon, demon, demon' defense. The problem with that concept is in order to be properly rehabbed, a person needs to be aware of their own failings and they need to want to change. All the therapy in the world won't help without those two prerequisites and this sick fuck doesn’t seem to have either of them.

I would’ve applied the “lock, key, throw’ method which is the extent of my mercy towards people like him and that’s if I’m feeling kind.

@Sera's Arrow - lock, key, throw - yes. He's a nasty, manipulative little shit. I truly believe he planned this - earlier visits were reconnaissance, and then he requested to be housed in the DORMITORY?

Thank their god that these people had a moral centre, and reported him rather than defending their 'mission'.

I truly think that he believed that if he were caught, they would cover up, rather than bring scandal down on their orphanage. So, as far as I am concerned, kudos is deserved for failing to fulfill his expectations - which, I have a horrible feeling, would not have been the case in many christian NGOs - donations mustn't be endangered, the greater good, etc.....

I am sickened by the amount of carnage he was able to carry out in such a short period of time. He had to have been working at it from the very first day. How horribly disturbing. Those poor poor children. I don't think sentences for these types of crimes are ever strong enough. I think death is the only cure, to be honest. Anyone who targets the elderly, the young, the vulnerable... I truly believe that some crimes are bad enough that you just don't deserve to live any more.

I really don't think these pedophiles expect to be caught. Same with those viewing child pornography. They think they are invincible. I can't think of any other reason why they would do this with the risks involved.

Spend the rest of your life in prison? Where the other inmates are aware of what you've done? Just can't understand it unless they really don't expect to be caught.

Or the scarier thing to speculum are is the drive to release their desires is that strong they take enormous risks. People like that have an operating system that is hard wired and you can't truly cure that with therapy.

It wouldn't surprise if me if this was only the first time he was actually caught -- both in Kenya and maybe the US.

I seriously wonder about that judge. This guy was convicted by a jury of his peers. They seemed to think there was enough evidence for all of the charges... He only got 40 years? He could/should have gotten 120 years even after the other three counts were thrown out. It really looks like this judge is showing some sort of favoritism from where I sit. Persecuted Christians indeed.

With any luck, it won't take long for his fellow convicts to administer their own justice.
