Back in 2001, we had to be escorted out to the car by the midwife (we had to take the car seat in and strap baby in properly on the ward) so she could check the car seat. I don't know if they do it now but it was standard NHS guidelines back then.

So did we in 1996 and 97.

Our hospital (2013) just wanted to make sure we had a car seat. They didn't check to see if it was installed correctly or anything though.

When I had Baby Cats (2014) they watched over my shoulder while I strapped her into the infant seat but didn't follow us out to the car to check anything.

All the way back in 1991, my parents weren't allowed to leave the hospital without proving that the carseat was properly installed and I was properly installed in it. Of course, that turned into my mom sitting on a bench in Central Park with Newborn Me in her arms for close to an hour while my dad, uncle, and grandpa turned the installation process into a Three Stooges routine. Apparently they were close to saying "screw it" and just taking me home on the subway.

I can totally picture that as a scene from some sitcom. Your poor mom! lol

Haha, my family totally thinks of things in terms of TV shows, so you're not too far off! My cousin and I started rating craziness at our family gatherings on a scale of one to Bluth.

I have totally done that with my family. My favorite thing to picture (since I wasn't present) was when my husband (then boyfriend) talked to my parents about wanting to marry me (not in a permission way, just a "hey I'm gonna propose" way). He told them, they joked about taking me off their hands finally, then my clueless brother wandered through the big moment rambling about buying steaks to grill for dinner. I can just picture it on tv. They're all so ridiculous and I love them.

It's embarrassing to see the difference between Anna and almost all the duggar sisters when it comes to social skills. Anna seems like she would be a fun friend, she's a bit tongue-in-cheek and can crack jokes AND - She has a personality! I fundementally disagree with her stance on abortion and religious upbringing, but I remember from when I was active in church that you find people who you get along with and become friends with regardless of their political views. I've been in several churches and the last one I was in before becoming agnostic and later an   atheist was very LGBT-friendly so you could assume that people's political feelings were somewhat close to your own.

I wish that Anna would see her full potential, I can see her getting a job or getting an education. She has 4 kids but there are women's groups who could help her. Jessa, Jill and Jinger I feel lack basic knowledge about how to go about anything independently. Jana seems level-headed and smart (when she has an opportunity to show that) but the rest of them feel just really sheltered and limited. I watch the show for Anna and her kids. I hope she finds the courage to leave Josh, I've recently separated from my son's father and it's been really difficult and nerve-wrecking, so I know that it's tough. But you do it for your kids and yourself. She is going to break under the amount of stress, I just can't see any other way out of this.

In New South Wales (Australia) most major maternity hospitals have car seat inspections in the car park, you can't take your baby home by private vehicle without it being signed off by the hospital. you can also get free inspections from most DMV equivalents, police and local councils, with for-fee services at places like baby or car shops. Certainly a worthwhile service.

My youngest was very annoyed with the law because he didn't hit 4'9" until he was 12. Unfortunately for him, we had bought the large Britax convertible seat, so no discreet booster! When he was 8 we were able to lower the shoulder strap just enough that he was safe in a seat-only booster, but we kept him in that until he was 10 (4'5") and could sit on the seat without the strap decapitating him. We wouldn't have been fined after he was 8, but he was still too short. He was embarrassed, but safe

If this had been the law in Saskatchewan when I was growing up, I wouldn't have been out of a booster until I was 15. I had a growth spurt that summer and went from 4'8" to 5'.

In fact, I can imagine there are many gymnasts still in booster seats if their parents don't allow them out once they turn 10 or 11.

I, too, was thinking of just some kind of sliding mechanism (where the seatbelt comes out of the cushion, so you can adjust it vertically depending on the height of the kid.

The ones they make now (at least Honda's version) doesn't even really go low enough for me, a 5'2" woman. I think part of the problem is that "they" (I think Congress?) decided that airbags could only be tested as if the person was unbelted. If the (generic) person is unbelted, a smaller person gets damaged by the air bag.

I wish shoulder straps could go lower and that airbags could be calibrated toward the person's size and whether or not they are already restrained by a lap/shoulder belt.

I know, but until they change the (hopefully adjustable) location of the shoulder strap, it's definitely hard for anyone with a shorter torso to fit *safely* into a regular car seat without booster.

Same for where I grew up.....I was a junior elite gymnast growing and was 4'6 until I quit due to an injury at 17. I am 5'7 now, it's crazy how much gymnastics stunts growth. But yeah, if that law existed here, I'd have been a high school senior in a booster seat.....

I'm guessing I'm not the only one waiting for the much-anticipated Smugs sighting. Until Joshley appears or more shit hits the fan, the Duggars are boring.

Do we know if Anna has gone to the home school conference this year?  Can't imagine smugs would be allowed to stay home alone!

I'm only 5'4" but I was more of a Prodonova then a Khorkina. Not that I was that good at all, but I was ALWAYS in the gym, either training or coaching, so I just didn't grow!

I would not have enjoyed being a in Grade 10 or 11 in a booster seat. It was bad enough when 9th Graders thought I was in the 8th Grade and they could pick on me.

If you want to start the conversation back up on the Duggars...go for it. Sadly not much to say these days, it seems. Maybe Josh will resurface soon.

I am tall and have a long torso. I'm terrified that air bags will be like a punch to my throat! One size fits all neglects a lot of people. :-(

I'm 4'10". That seat belt comes right around my neck. It I hit anything, it's going to take my head off.

man I was a little dude for what seemed like forever until I finally had a couple of growth spurts. My roommate is 6'4 or 6'5 and always complains about stuff not fitting him right and how uncomfortable he is on rollercoasters, etc. At 5'10, I seem to be "average" height and most things seem "built or made for me", as my buddy likes to point out. I do feel for family and friends who are way shorter or way taller than what's considered average height because I see how tough it can be for them sometimes. I also find it funny that when my roommate and me go out, there is always someone going "whoa, dude, you're tall!" as if he doesn't know that. Haha people are weird. Then again, I am left handed and I will point out when I see someone else who is, as well, so I guess I'm not any better. :)

Last night's ep, and the whole play house-building thing was entirely scripted by TLC. Why would they start the building on a cold, rainy day? And the "girls' w/e. Please. They all sat around saying, "We should do this more often, just the girls." Then they interviewed each girl & they all said the same thing. FOR HALF AN HOUR! Then they went to dinner & did the same thing! And the..."Do you have a BF? What are you looking for?" until I wanted to scream. Just trying to build up curiosity to secure the next Duggar season. How many more times can Jessa say, "You never know; before we have another girls' w/e, we could have had a cpl more wedding." AAHHH!

The only genuine moment was when Anna was talking about Josh coming home. She sounded positive at first, but then she got a very pained look on her face & rambled about how much work they had ahead of them daily, to put the marriage back together. I truly believe she doesn't want to. But if she leaves him, she loses the Sister connection that has been her support system for so long. She knows her marriage has changed & I really think she doesn't know how to live in the new one. It has probably occurred to her that Josh only married her to have a sex partner & to get away from Mr. Legos and might not even love her. I hope they will give us an honest glimpse at how it's going, even if it is just talking head w/Anna, since the general consensus is nobody wants to see Smuger's mug.
