I am honestly starting to think Josh will be the one to break free. Not right away but I can see him realizing he has no job prospects and is stuck in a marriage with a woman he doesn't love under a much tighter string and in a year or so just saying to hell with it all.

Because he voluntarily entered a Jesus Jail, which by all reports is a labor camp, for the egregious and imprisonable crime of adultery.  

Sorry, but .... he did not allow himself to be sent to a glorified legal prison because he wasn't under duress.

I would think that JimBob will want to keep a close eye on Josh, so my guess as to his next employment would be "working for" his dad, helping clean up rental properties or something like that.  I bet JimBob will want to keep him on a very short leash.  After some time passes, then perhaps Josh and Anna will go to speak at various seminars about being redeemed from sin, how prayer and trust in god helped them fight off the devil, or something like that.

Yep.  Honestly for all the talk of Anna leaving Josh I never saw that happening...I think he'll leave her.

Not immediately, I think he'll stick it out for a while but if there is no real "redemption" (meaning everyone forgives absolutely and pretends it never happened - no consequences either on the home or employment front) it might well be just too hard.

To live a life you don't want and play by someone else's rules is hard enough -  and now with a lot less perks and 100% more monitoring and side-eye?  At some point it would make sense to say fuck it, file for divorce and hammer out a custody/visitation deal and be done with it.  

IMO I think he'd move past it faster if he did break.  Not going to be easy to get a job, lack of skills and the publicity and stuff, but a lot easier in the secular world than the cult.  if he gets one in the cult will it be based on lecturing of his path back from Satan's Ice Capades...or whatever the expression was?  Whether he feels true remorse or not, he's got to be embarrassed.  Who would want to make a living constantly talking about your most shameful actions?  I think most people would really want to let that go and not marinate in it for the rest of their life.

Honestly - I think if he stays and how long he stays will depend on the financial situation.  How much will JB or TLC (total speculation based on nothing) shell out just to keep him quiet and on the back burner while they milk every last nickle out of the show?  A different kind of hush money as in - you just sit in the corner and hush.

I don't think Josh would totally rebel or write a tell all book or anything. I think he does love his parents but I think the fact he did cheat on his wife shows he wasn't as steeped in kool-aid as people thought. I can see him having a redemption baby with Anna and trying to play face but ultimately realizing he doesn't want this at all and trying to get a divorce. 

Career wise I have no clue what he could do from there. I don't know how many colleges with take him as a student and for any company to hire him would be a possible bad move in both PR and HR senses. 

Maybe he could run his own Ashley Madison type business?

That's a good point.  I just figured he went along with it because fight or flight...and he couldn't fight the media mess so escape was more appealing.  And I can imagine wanting to be anywhere doing anything if it got you out of the line of fire of JB and M, and earshot of what had to be one devastated Anna.  

But to your point who knows how effective the brainwashing is at RU?  I've just been of the opinion that you can't really change if you don't get to the root cause of why you did it in the first place...and i don't think you get to the root cause at a place like that.  He needs to understand his own head...not Satan's shenanigans.

I think it is 100% likely that somewhere down the line, one of those 19 kids will need some cash and will write a book, start a website like RG, or otherwise expose what happened to them.  There are 19.  There will be a black sheep.

I feel bad for Anna. Four children in addition to any redemption blessing that may arrive, plus I suspect she'll be responsible for monitoring Smug's phone and computer usage and she'll be fundie-blamed if Josh slips up due to perceived lack of diligence or joyfulness on her part. Plus, he's unemployed with no marketable skills.

I will say that if Josh isn't 100% buying the whole she-bang he was raised to believe, I truly feel terrible for him at this point.  Six months in a program like RU has got to be just pretty much unbearable if you DO buy into it all and believe it is the answer to removing the fortress Satan has built in your heart.  If you DON'T buy into that line of reasoning - I just simply can't imagine how bad those six months would be.  I truly hope he is OK.

ETA - I hope that is how you spell she-bang LOL.  Right now somehow I don't think it is...

I honestly do not believe Josh will change to the 'cult way' of thinking.  He may outwardly show that he is, but I do not believe he is capable of changing, at this time.  He needs honest, secular counseling, to have a hope of a chance to find true peace and happiness.  It's *possible*, to my thinking, that if Anna made some changes in her way of thinking, there could be a chance at a modestly happy marriage.  It will be work and Josh just might go for it, if they could get out of the poison.  Just my speculations

I think it will likely be one of the one who was raised mostly by a Sister Mom, probably someone under Jason. I would love it if Jackson and Johannah cowrote it but it does seem a bit unlikely that two of them would choose to sever all ties in such a public way. 

Generally I think as we see more pass the age of 18 we will see more Duggars go Fundie Lite or plain old Conservative with only one really truly all out rebelling.

I don't think that in would be in Josh's best interest to have any sort of job where he would be exposed to the public. I'm sure he got death threats when Joshgate 1.0 hit, and he will probably get verbal abuse just walking down the street. Assuming he wants to stay part of Duggar, Inc., he should have an administrative position that doesn't involve him being seen much. The leghumpers might forgive all, but many people won't.

The problem with the Duggar way of life (well, one of many problems) is that the kids are assuming that JB will set them up with a house and a business (if male), and I don't think that's going to be possible, especially with all the howler-men coming of age in the next few years. JB was probably counting on the show to provide income and storylines for all of his brood, but at some point, the show will have to end, either because of new scandals or sheer lack of interest; he can't possibly think that that TLC will still be filming when it's time for Josie to court. He can't keep supporting of all his kids and their spouses and quivers. At some point, he bottom will collapse from under this enterprise.
