Vidya Games! What Are You Playing?

I've just started Silent Hill Downpour and Dead by Daylight.

I've put off Downpour for years because it features two things I despise: long chase sequences and stupid fast-moving instakill sequences. I also hate the post-SH4 combat system. Back in the golden days of Team Silent I spent hundreds of hours discussing Silent Hill, analysing Silent Hill, playing Silent Hill, writing essays on Silent Hill. I met my best friend of 12 years because of our mutual love of the series. The degradation of the series made me stop caring. I really shouldn't give Konami any of my gamerbux after the pricktease that was the PT for Silent Hills (seriously, fuck Konami) but I've always thought it looked the most 'authentic' of the American-made Silent Hills and it's also the only one I haven't played.

Most people seem to prefer Homecoming but Homecoming is honestly the worst SH game imo. Downpour did looping hall puzzles before Kojima made it cool (and one of the most overused tropes in indie horror gaming).

Hey guys, I know my comment is rather late on this thread, and i'm not sure if anyone is still looking over this way, but I thought i'd try here before starting a new topic for it.  I have a PS4 and I was wondering if anyone might be interested in playing a game together?  No one I know in person likes video games like I do :-( . And I don't even consider myself a huge gamer.  One thing to keep in mind though is that i'm a newbie when it comes to online multiplayer, so you might need to have some patience with my learning curve. :-p .

@The Mother Dust what online games do you have for PS4?

Hi @Maggie Mae!   Lets see.... I have Uncharted 4 and the rebooted tomb raider games....and Uncharted the Lost Legacy....you're probably noticing a theme here haha

If you have any games you would recommend I would be ok with purchasing a couple more.  I also have horizon zero dawn, i can't remember if thats multiplayer though....might not be

I also have Assassins Creed Syndicate.   And those are all the ps4 games I currently have.

I have horizon zero dawn & tomb raider, but none of the other ones. I also have Overcooked (I don't think that's online), and some Final Fantasy titles. Maybe I'll see what else is out there. I also have an XboX one, and some rockstar games that have online ability, but I've never tried it. I don't think i'm good enough to do mmos!

One thing that I have a hard time with, is I tend to get motion sick with the first person games.....thats why all the ones above are 3rd person.....I wish it wasn't the case, I know that cuts out alot of great games.  :-(

Cool, it seems we have alot of the same taste.  :-) I don't currently own any final fantasy games, but I played Final Fantasy Tactics on my PS2 back in the day....... I loved that game. I haven't tried any other FF games though.

An XBox has been on my want list for a while now....uggh....

I've never played any rockstar games before either, but they look fun.
Does the PS store offer free trials on games?  If they do, that might be a cool way to test some out.....I know I did the free trial thing before, but I cant remember if they were only allowing free trials for a limited time.

Definitely let me know if there is a particular game you have in mind....I'm kind of eyeballing tomb raider again.....but since that is a single protagonist game, i'm not sure how that would work......will google.....

Now i'm wondering if I might get less motion sick with the 1st person, if I play on my smaller tv.......hmmm

I'm currently addicted to Two Point Hospital.......

I saw that in the steam store - it reminds me of Theme Hospital, which was by the same company that did Theme Park which turned into Roller Coaster Tycoon. Those games were so fun and had a lot of little Easter eggs/jokes.

If you're a fan of those games, Two Point Hospital is perfect for you. Full of puns and little jokes.  They released an expansion which includes so many new illnesses.  My favourite is Barking Mad, where they dress as dogs and the treatment room is "The Doghouse".

I found Vegasworld.com and have been amassing my piles of fake money.

Loads of fun, every casino game possible is available.

The drama-llamas on there are hysterical.... apparently some people think they are playing with real money....  LOL

I am looking for a multiplayer game, not a download.   Totally on the Web.   What is out there?  And thank you!

Is this for you? PC or mobile? Here's a list from PC Gamer.https://www.pcgamer.com/15-multiplayer-browser-games-to-play-right-no/

unfortunately, I've only played one of them - Kingdom of Loathing - which is kind of a niche thing.

FYI the Epic Game Store gives away free games - real games - every week. One of the more recent ones was called "For the King" and it's like Final Fantasy crossed with the hex system of Civ. It's pretty fun, but no longer free. Currently they are offering GTA5 for free, and there will be a new game on Thursday.

Other games I'm playing right now:

Anno 1800 - SUPERFUN city builder, with pirates, trade, campaign, and zoos!

Stardew Valley - because I'm addicted to it.

Spiderman (on PS4)  - it's super fun and while I get tired of the fighting mechanics, there's a bunch of other stuff to do.

I also wanted to mention "Oxygen Not Included" and "Rimworld" as games that are non-shooters but still fun. ONI you are tasked with setting up a base on an asteroid and I've learned a fair amount about HVAC units and basic engineering (stay away from the fandom, I once looked up a question and the first person said something like "This is basic engineering, how do you not know?")

Rimworld is topdown, but you crash land on a planet and have to set up a base and survive until you can escape. It calls itself a "story generator" and has a ton of mods if the base game lacks anything.

I've been playing Splatoon 2 on the Switch and I LOVE IT. It's the first game ever that has captivated me like this. I started last November and I'm almost 400 hours in, currently lvl 72.
only play turf-war, not ranked. I main a roller and those aren't really suitable for ranked matched. I would love to try out "normal" guns, but my aim sucks and I'm self conscious :') The only other games I've played are games like pokémon and animal crossing. I've never played another shooter. And it sucks to go into a match being lvl 72 when trying out a new type of weapon and then loosing badly. At least, in my head that sucks. On the other hand: who cares what online strangers think of my capabilities? And if I never try another type of weapon I'll never get good at using another type of weapon. So maybe I should just try out another type of weapon today.

FYI, Civilization 6 is free on the Epic Game store for the next week. It's a turn-based strategy game, you play as historical figures and grow your civilization from cavemen days through setting up rocket launches to space.

@Marly have you played Team Fortress 2?

I'm on a Crusader Kings II bender at the moment (base game free on Steam, all other DLC can be obtained for free too if you know where to look, and Steam can't tell). Just love it - a very immersive medieval dynasty grand strategy game full of murder, intrigue, land grabbing and plague. It's very old (2012 I think it first came out) but menu driven so the graphics don't matter so much. I'm very tempted to get CK III when it comes out in September.

Also love Cities Skylines, SimCity, Forest Village, Foundation (all city builders - it's just my thing) and of course, Sims 2.

Yes, I've been enjoying isolation!

Avid video gamer, here.

I, too, get motion sickness from first-person games, so I avoid those anymore. Was why I couldn't finish Portal 2, that franchise'll really bring it out. Also I like the whole 'paper-dolls crossed with animation crossed with puzzles' thing that goes on with third-person role-playing-games.

My current fave is Horizon Zero Dawn, am super excited about the sequel which is supposed to be coming out next year. I also really enjoyed that Spiderman game, I have a PS4 fwtw. I have a Steam acct but not the best computer so I don't play much, there. I plan on getting a PS5 when the prices come down, next year-ish.

I play all kinds of games, been playing Free Cell for decades now, lol, played a bunch of Tetris back in the day & still like all kinds of geometry puzzle games, & I have Merge Magic & Merge Dragons on my phone. Have played Civilization going back to the first one. I've played Sim games. I really enjoyed Spore but never got very far. I've played a ton of Elder Scroll product -- Oblivion, Skyrim, ESO. But my favorites, the ones I go back to time & again, are the souls-like games -- Demons Souls, Dark Souls, Bloodborne, the Nioh series. I've played thousands & thousands of hours of those.

I even stream. Private message me if you want my Twitch &/or YouTube (& don't worry, it's a-okay if no one does). Realize this isn't really much of a video-gamer space, but that's for the best, lol; gamer spaces can be toxic as f**k. Just putting my gamer stuff out, here.
