Fundie-Lite Homeschool Fail

A fundie-lite friend of mine posted this on Facebook, and several of her friends have applauded her and commented on her great idea. I'm just confused. Wouldn't they save $3.65 doing this for one year...not 667.95?

Am I missing something?

They aren't just putting in one penny a day but adding pennies ... so 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 and so on.

Here's a chart that may clarify the math a bit:

It's not one penny in every day.  The day of the year it is is how many pennies.  January 31 gets 31 pennies on that day.  February 1 gets 32.

Ooops! I guess I misunderstood the task. I thought it was one penny each day. My bad!

Don't feel bad.  It's written in a bad way.

It's written out pretty poorly, but the math adds up. I was considering doing it myself  actually, I love little money savers like this.

I like the 52 week money saving challenge. $1 week 1, $2 week 2, up to $52 week 52. That's $1378.00 in a year.

Well we got rid of pennies in Canada so I guess I'm screwed.

Why, Canada, why??? (Please spare me your well-reasoned arguments. This is purely emotional, and requires no reasonable answer. Also, sorry about sounding patronising. I just really like pennies, okay!!!11???) :)

I tell you, it's wonderful!  I come to the States and I'm horrified that I have to deal with them again: 'What are these dirty little coppery things?'  Let's penny-free the world!

I have no idea. Probably something about saving money. Or something. It just happened a few months ago, so most people still have pennies floating around. You can still use them if you have them, they're just not being produced anymore. And I don't think businesses can give them as change? Not sure about that last one. I've got a few in my wallet but they may just be stragglers.

That's how to round up prices!  No more 5.99, 9.99 etc. Just think, for almost  every purchase a penny extra - that will really add up for the big players, but the little people 'won't really notice'.:my_confused:

If the penny is in circulation, the government has to keep making them (to replace ones tossed in fountains, lost down sewage drains, stamped into souvenirs, etc...). Unfortunately, pennies cost much more than 1 cent to manufacture, and they have very little purchasing power. They're just not worth it anymore.

If I were to do that, I would alternate weeks so in every two week period, you're saving $53 (Week 1 - $1, Week 2 - $52, Week 3 - $2, Week 4, $51, etc). Otherwise the months of November and December when you are already probably spending more money than normal are going to hurt - I usually don't have an extra $396 in the last eight weeks of the year to spare!

For a while, I was putting every $5 and a lot of $1s that I got in change in a bank. Except I don't typically use cash, and I prefer to tip in cash, so that wasn't successful as I would like. It did come in handy when I needed to reload the laundry card and didn't want to run to the bank for cash though!

Yes! And without them, how can you do "Penny Wars?" This year at my work we raised over $5k for the food bank! (lots of competitive people) That doesn't include the company (partial) match and the canned food that was also donated and factored in.

Also, for my wedding we are doing the "squish pennies" for different animals, and they will be attached to the place cards for people to find their table - animals, not numbers. (Wedding is at a zoo.) LOL being an official counter for Penny Wars helped me "buy" a lot of shiny new ones to use!

I have a real aversion to dimes. I don't mind pennies, but I hate how inconsequential dimes feel. Like the change machine at the store yesterday gave me back 7 dimes and a nickle instead of 3 quarters, and I'm irrationally angry about a pocketful of dimes.

I just have a Christmas club account attached to my normal bank account.  Every fortnight when I get paid $100.00 gets transferred automatically. I can't touch it until November unless I approach the bank specifically. That gives me extra to spend at Christmas an for the girl's school books for the next year.

That's true, but if an item is $1.26 you only pay $1.25. Massive savings right there!

Canada minted pennies until 2012? Wow, Australia stopped making 1 and 2 cent pieces back 1990. (Not counting special mint sets.)  Some people want to get rid of the 5c as well.  I'd be okay with that.  They're annoying.

We still do pennies in Britain.... 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p and then £1 and £2. I find 1p and 2p coins kind of annoying cos you can't do anything with them. They just hang around in your purse.

My sweet pup was diagnosed with a brain tumor in September. She passed away in my arms on Thanksgiving morning. It all happened so fast. She didn't want to eat anything the day before, but prior to that was ok. Knew it was near time and had booked an appointment to take her next week. However, she decided for me. She was only 8 and really was one of the best dogs. She never met a stranger, human or dog. Life isn't the same without her.

I made my first Granny Square! After nearly 30 years of knitting and crocheting this was a project I never did. Until now! I needed something to do with my rest of very colourful yarn and now I am very happy. I need to try different needles with my yarns but I think I found something nice for the future.
I needed only 3 different youtube videos until I found a person who explained the concept slowly and repetitive and with words I can understand. I hate when these tutorials make me feel dumb.

Someone please remind me to buy peanut butter. Seriously, I have been meaning to get some for at least three weeks, and everytime I remember, the shops are already closed!

We had to put our 14 year old dachshund, Trinket, down today.  She was fine Thursday, but by mid-morning yesterday, it was apparent that something was really wrong,  She had zero energy, lost her appetite and began walking into corners.  By morning I knew it was time for her to have her final visit to the vet.  She had lost about a pound and a half recently.  RIP, Trinket!

Horrific! A 6 year old boy was murdered, and mother severly injured, in a hate crime in Chicago. Reports say they are both Palestinian Muslims and were specifically targeted because of that. Thankfully the man who did it is in custody
      This is pure evil
