Duggars adopting another baby

I don't think they'd actually go through with it. It seems like every few months the Duggars make comments about how they'd love to adopt, but nothing ever comes of it, and I don't expect it ever will. Ultimately the Duggars are in this for the conceiving and the birthing, not for the raising. I don't think they'd actually have any interest in raising a child not biologically related to them, and I don't think Michelle would be willing to give up her bragging about birthing them all.

Giving lip service to adoption is popular with the anti-abortion crowd, but I'd be very surprised if this amounted to more than talk, just like it was all the other times.

As an aside, the targeted advertising on the Duggar Family Blog is really amusing...

Even algorithms have a sense of humor ;) Wonder how long it'll take them to tweak their ad settings/service.

If this adoption rumor turns out to be true, it's absolutely disgusting. I hope no adoption agency would seriously consider placing another innocent child in that house.

I'm on the "it's all BS for publicity" team.  No way would JimBob shell out so much money for someone not even related to him.  He hated spending anything on his bio kids..

Also, they are too old to adopt unless they will adopt older children and no way would MeChelle want anything but a sweet, precious baby. They cap the age difference between parent and child somewhere around 45.

This is right up there with them claiming they would be proud to have the boys serve in the military.

I've said this on the Fundie Xmas presents thread, but I reckon Meechelle should get a reborn doll. All the fun of a baby, forever.

However, I don't really picture the Duggars as being the type of people who would intentionally adopt a special needs child, even if they were aware that as Michelle kept having babies into her 40s they were making it increasingly likely that she would end up giving birth to a child with special needs.

Josie already has a seizure disorder, which may or may not go away as she gets older.  Many preemies have lingering special needs as reach school age, including learning disabilities.

Can you imagine being the only adopted child after 19 biological children?? The J'kids are definitely not going to treat an adopted little sister (because I'm assuming they'll want a girl) the same way they treat their other 19 siblings. She'll probably be treated like a charity case, like a foster child who they're "trainin' up" as a favour to the kid's ATI teen mother.

Learning disorders are no problem,  they will just pray it away! She will get all her educational needs met at the dining room table. Sheeseh, you guys make such a big deal about things.

I bet they would, & they'd most likely pass it onto Mama Jana as her last buddy after all the fuss & newness dies down.

They'll never get beyond "praying about" adoption. It was always just something they said for attention. JB and J'chelle are far too selfish, they would look down on an adopted child because it's not of their bloodline. No one in their right mind would give a child to a family that covered up sexual abuse, that beats kids with rods, that has parents pushing 50. No way.

Learning disabilities? Don't you mean God-given-personal-challenges?

Can you just see the interview about how they raise kids?

Michelle: "Well, *whisper-y voice* we adhere to the Pearl method."

Once they showed the adopted child 'the Rod,' they would be out of there.

They can get one of these to go with the Reborn doll:

Finally a pet perfect for the Duggars! A cat they can't kill or otherwise harm -only let the batteries wear out.

I don't believe they have any intention of adopting, but if I did I have no doubt they could get themselves one or more "rehomed" international child from other self-serving fund child-collector freaks (but that wouldn't be a baby so Michelle would probably pass). More concerning is that fundies also run "homes" for pregnant women that, like the maternity homes of the baby scoop era, keep the women isolated and slut-shame and guilt the women, most of whom are fundie or evangelical themselves, into surrendering the child. Websites for adopters are full of "testimonials" from such women who realized they were "vessels" set up by God to carry children for good Christian women.

Not sure of the laws in Arkansas, but some states don't require home studies in these situations. So let's hope they really are just blowing air.

Will the kid's mother even be a J-Slave?  Watch Johannah turn into a sister mom.

All I can think of is a teen mom and 20kids crossover VSE. Of course, Bethany Christian would be involved ala Catelynn and Tyler.

This isn't real, they won't adopt.

So how soon before the poor abused kid would be rehomed because they did not turn into the perfect christian child that should fully asppiricalte the duggers sacrifice of adopting them? god forbid the child show anything but happiness.

Do we know if the Duggars are working with an "image consultant"? I don't put anything past this people and their efforts to rehab their brand. Plus Michelle would want to beat Jessa to the punch on this one.

Do I believe they said they want to adopt? Why yes, I do.

Do I believe they would ever actually adopt? Why no, it's complete bullshit.

I hate hate hate it when someone has one child and can't have another and people carry on with "Be thankful that you at least have one, some people don't even get that!" Pain is pain. Heartache is heartache. But....when you have NINETEEN children? Even my understanding can only stretch so far until I start to wonder if some sort of psychological problem is at play.

I'm not convinced it's true yet, but it might be an image building effort to talk about adoption. 7

But it sounds like a great idea. It's exactly what the J'girls need, the chance to take care of someone else's child that got abused as a baby. Just ask Jana, she's got plenty of experience.

Why stop at twenty? it's such a random number. I suggest two dozen. Besides, they'll probably have to start thinking about replacing Josh soon.

I think it's for publicity and image boosting too - an attempt to get interesting information about them circulating that ISN'T about strippers and porn stars and forced indoctrination.

If not? I do think Michelle's got some kind of baby obsession thing that needs treated. Like someone else said, let's get the woman a tiny dog - but only if she promises not to blanket train the darn thing. :chi-yes:

She'll be THRILLED at the ease of blanket training a reborn doll.
